sinclairuser Posted October 2, 2019 Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 (edited) hi all, i just finished painting this xbox so thought i would share the pics, the colour is tangerine the jewel is white with black letters, i like how its turned out but i'm not happy with the jewel it may end up black with tangerine letters. sorry about the potato i took the pics with. sinclairuser Posted October 2, 2019 Author Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 possibly dave, i like the white/black jewel too, i just dont know if it works with the tangerine. i will give it some thought, i painted it because it had some really bad scratches and marks, this is the 1.4 i tsopped with copper tape. a mate came to visit while i was testing the PSU from the 1.1 and asked me if i wanted another one, so i got it but it had been in his garage for ten years. but it works great the philips dvd drive looks brand new so this xbox is what i'm going to use when the 1.1 is fixed i will keep it as a back up unit. Steo1024 Posted October 2, 2019 Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 This looks pretty nice. I would like to do something like this to my own at some stage since mine are pretty scratched up. The only one I have that isn't noticeably scratched on top is my crystal 1.6, but I always thought the black Xbox looked better. I'm still planning to get a replacement PSU for my other V1.0 and TSOP flash it. It will be nice to have it as a spare, and for some games that won't work properly on my 1GHz console. sinclairuser Posted October 2, 2019 Author Report Share Posted October 2, 2019 thanks Steo1024, back in the day my main xbox was a crystal, and i honestly think the plastic in crystal cases is a bit harder, they show dust and muck up more but dont scratch up as much, my old system used to be on the tv stand, with all my other retro systems thrown on it but didn't seem to scratch up, but a black 1.6 i used to have as a spare got scratched up stored under the bed! lol. Steo1024 Posted October 3, 2019 Report Share Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) Mine was a crystal too, but I fried the hard drive by accidentally shorting it when trying to hotswap the HDD. This was over 10 years ago and I knew nothing about TSOP flashing or console revisions, so I threw that one out and kept the DVD drive at the time. I got another crystal one that was given to my cousin who never used it, so that became my main one instead. Unbelievably, I threw out 3 black Xbox's about 4 years back, as I was trying to get rid of things to save space. I still regret it to this day that I was stupid enough to do that, the only thing I remember is that one of them was missing the DVD drive, and I'm not sure if the others worked either, but they likely could have been salvaged either way. I know the consoles are easy enough to come by for a reasonable price, but I still wish I'd kept them all.
