C64MidRezzie
I dismantled and washed an xbox and cleaned the motherboard with alcohol tips - the problem is that the motherboard - controller ports - inner plastic parts of dvd drive and hard drive still stink - it’s like a stale cigarette smell any suggestions? Thanks Edited July 16, 2019 by C64MidRezzie
NoobInDistress
i'd give it a thorough rub with isopropyl apart from the board though (wouldn't hurt it but ... ) since i'm a smoker myself it doesn't bother me. What bothers me are the xboxes that i've picked up recently and they're all reeking as if they've been drenched in febreze. can't smoke that much to neutralize that

I removed all the shielding and am concentrating on getting rid of the smell from the case. I'm going to use it as a case for another xbox that isn't in as good a shape. I'll clean the insides of the motherboard and leave it out for some air and then sell it on as I can't bear the smell. Thanks for your help. fox
one time I got a used one on ebay that smelled like it spent a year in someone's ass I can't even imagine how you make a console smell that bad
djfusion82
had a crystal one like this, never managed to completely get the brown tinge out of it
C64MidRezzie
Still working away on this system - trying to ensure the case is completely free of any brown residue - nearly there as I'm being very thorough. I'm happy to get the metal cage, motherboard, dvd caddy, hard drive caddy as clean as possible. The plan is to put my current best black cased console into this one and then transfer everything else that was smelly into the old case and sell it on as I know I'll never be able to completely get rid of the smell. Gray1
I usually get electronic contact cleaner to clean mine and use a soft paint brush. Make sure the cleaner says safe for motherboards and printed circuits. I find it is a little better than alcohol.
