Repository for Hex Edited XBEs

Hello everyone.

I was hoping OGXbox could start a repository/collection of HEX Edited XBEs. I rip most of my games from disc using DVD2XBOX which helps in patching the 480p but there are many other XBEs available with various different functionality such as:

  1. 720p
  2. Widescreen
  3. Running from Hard Drive
  4. 128MB RAM Xbox
  5. Upgraded Processor (1.0 or 1.4 GHz)

Would it be possible to post/discuss the available XBEs on this thread or, better yet, collect/link as many as possible and create a MEGA/Google Drive link to them? There are already quite a few XBEs available on other boards such as XBMC4XBOX, assemblergames.com, and I know many folks have already edited these files. It would be greatly appreciated if these XBEs were easily accessible rather than redoing what so many others have already done successfully (unless there is some sort of legal issue :) ).

If there are no issues from the admins, I can also share what DVD2XBOX may have already patched.

Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks!

best way would be to share the actual patches made through Lunar IPS, same way it was done on the emuxtras thread initially. No ilegal stuff involved in here.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not familiar with Lunar IPS so I'll have to look into that. I could pore through the half-dozen message boards attempting to collect everything I come across and try them out but I'm sure some folks may already have a full stash of Hex edited XBEs. What do you think would be the best way to collect all these for others to enjoy? I forgot I have an account on EmuXtras so I'll start looking there.

Here's a HDD/480p pack I found on the EmuXtras board from user Headphone. I'll keep posting more/newer archives as I find them.  Enjoy!

EDIT: Please follow the board link below for discussion of these files. You should back up your original XBE for each game in case something doesn't work. I am not responsible for breaking your games. Do this at your own risk.

This is the thread that has the 720p Hex Edited files. I collected whatever I could find and take no credit for any of this.

it's done in a few steps.

1. choose original xbe

2. choose modified xbe

3. save the *.ips patch which contains the difference between them, so when a stock xbe is patched, it takes all the changes of a modified xbe.

This way, the repo could be shared everywhere, even under youtube videos and such. Probably I will contribute to this, just need to find some time, unfortunatelly it won't be soon, too busy.

I have a couple places I could put this and would be totally down with setting up a Gdoc to merge everything together and host it in Drive. Will get to work on making the patches tomorrow evening when I get some more board time.

Was thinking it could be organized as HDD > Resolution > RAM > CPU. That way we could avoid hosting, say, 64MB patches for a 1.4Ghz system. Are there even any CPU upgraded Xboxes with Stock RAM out there? Would save a lot of trouble to know either way,

The difference between the 480p and 720p on Gauntlet Dark Legacy is amazing. These photos don't do it justice but I don't own a screen capture card.

I have a million billion Xbox-related projects I’m always going back and forth on so between that and real life I get kinda hung up. BUT, as far as I know certain BIOSes such as Yoshihiro will allow remote video capture over the network.

@malarrya  could you provide some detail as to what the HDD patches actually do, if you know?

My understanding is that some games don’t work from HDD due to the FATX limitation of 128 characters in file names. Could simply be worked around by running the game as ISO if this is the only issue; cut down on the number of patches necessary.

Yeah some games don't launch from the hard drive or the game attempts to access certain files on the DVD D:/ drive. The games will get a dirty disc error or simply won't launch. Scooby-Doo Mystery Mayhem is one of them. That one is fixed by deleting the data within the XBE or something.

Just checked creating a folder name longer than 42 characters - NO.  Results in an error.

Created sub-sub-folders and this is the longest path I was able to create without an error:

/F/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/0/1/2/3456789/0123456789/01234567

252 characters.

No files can be saved in the folder though as the full path thus far takes up the entire max path length.

Tried to upload a file, xHexen.rar to this folder and only get an error.

Shortened the path and uploaded the file so the max path length is 252 characters and it works.  Add 1 more character onto the subfolder name and the full patch length is again too long to upload the file.

This works:

/F/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/0/1/2/3456789/012345678/xHexen.rar

252 characters, but this doesn't:

/F/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901/0/1/2/3456789/0123456789/xHexen.rar

253 characters.

I updated the archive with numerous additions. It now contains 79 total files for 720p:

Tried to make a set of widescreen/CPU/RAM/720P patches for a few games tonight, ended up getting sidelined by Halo of all things. I'd assumed this would be relatively simple, especially using OGxHD, but while it definitely works for forcing widescreen it gets stuck at 720P and just looks awful. I'll download your updated archive, try to backtrack the changes and go from there.

Does anyone know of a location that has all known widescreen hacks?

I only know ps2wide.net and Esppiral's thread on the assemblergames.com forums (soon in obscuregamers.com's archive). Each of them lists games you cannot find on the other website. Back in the day I would have expected to find this kind of stuff on xboxscene (R.I.P.). Nowadays this knowledge is shattered all over the internet and it is pointless to only consult one website.

As a European citizen I can only patch a handful of the listed games, since the patches are not "region-free". I.e., the US hacks will not work on the PAL version of the same game and vice versa.
