* UDMA Modes explained:

UDMA = transfer mode used by the kernel Increasing the UDMA mode has been profiled to improve some game load times in excess of 20% A full benchmark with SSD + StarTech shows disk IO is 70-100% faster across the board Increasing the UDMA mode will require an 80 wire IDE cable

The retail Xbox uses UDMA 2 (33mb/s) by default

The maximum supported UDMA mode by the Xbox southbridge is UDMA 6 (133mb/s HDD <--> CPU)

  • UDMA 6 is experimental, use at your own risk
  • UDMA 6 DOES NOT WORK WITH ALL IDE TO SATA ADAPTERS
  • UDMA 6 is confirmed to be working and stable with StarTech adapters
  • UDMA 5 and 6 are unstable on RXD-629A7-7 based adapters, but UDMA 4 seems okay
  • WLXKG-863B are the 'worst' adapters I have experienced working and are largely untested

For more info about IDE to Sata adaptors please visit the IDE to Sata adapter compatibility thread

Amazing work.

I know the obvious answer of more storage, but what are people with two hard drives actually doing ? With up to 16TB support on a single drive and the amount of dev changes needed for dashes/homebrew supporting multiple hard drives what is the use case?

Is there a secret cool thing I don't know about?

1. Being able to source old drives laying around that can add to storage instead of needing to consolidate with the purchase of twice the capacity or more.

2. Bypassing the need for Chimp to copy contents from an old drive to a new one, which is a pretty welcome development regardless of capacities involved.

3. Paving the way for more developments and providing a foundation. Things will branch off from this. I'm sure some people have some in mind already. Any progress is good progress.

One of the examples would be if you have a 4tb ssd with the full library xiso's build by repackinator (they are bigger because they have the disc structure in them unlike extracted-xiso's) then there is no space anymore for emulators and other things. Then you can add a 1tb ssd for that. This is much cheaper than buy the next ssd in line what would be an 8tb one.

Yeah, drive cloning never thought of that, can have a utility Xbox to do all kinds of stuff with the second drive to prep up other consoles.

I wonder if RAID 0 or 1 is plausible at a bios level? That would be amazing.

I know RAID can be done in software, but don't really know much more than that. I think it can theoretically be done using one method or another. Maybe somebody will get bored enough to see if it's possible....

Calling you, @Prehistoricman. :)

Potential use case: using a 8 or 16GB SD card or Compact Flash card as your main HDD and having the secondary drive be for bulk storage (games, media). Slot the card somewhere accessible from the outside, and it would make managing the drive quick and easy. Or swapping drives around between consoles.

Another use case is connecting a secondary HDD from another Xbox for cloning/copying files, or other purposes.

I was thinking of doing just that, I have some nice speed SDXC 256 and 512GB cards I could use for my Main drive and apps and then use my larger 4 TB Sata hard drive for my Games and Emulators.

Once of these would be perfect converting SDXC so Sata, and read times are easily good enough on an SDXC card to make a perfect boot drive.

Impressive his work, I am somewhat new in this subject, but I want to make the modification of the dual HDD, and carried out tests without success I think I am omitting something, I have the BIOS updated and modified with the Cerbios tool but I cannot make it recognize both disks, since it sends me error when starting, I also already formatted the second HDD with FatxPlorer with the new function and I do not succeed.....

Any advice to be able to achieve the modification ?  Thank you and greetings

Firstly, this is an English based forum. Please try to use English whenever possible.

Second. Do you have the cerbios.ini set to dual hdd mode?  The line in the ini should say DriveSetup =3

Google translated version----

En primer lugar, este es un foro basado en inglés. Por favor, trate de usar el inglés siempre que sea posible.

Segundo. ¿Tiene el cerbios.ini configurado en modo de disco duro dual?  La línea en el ini debe decir DriveSetup =3

how do I make the .ini

The ini is included with cerbios when you download it. Edit it to your liking and copy it across to the root of your C drive.

I have attached one to to this post, it is completely standard apart from being set to DriveSetup = 3 (dual hdd mode). Just download this and copy it to your xbox C drive.

Thank you very much friends, I was able to do it now, but the games in .xbe do not open, I am using the explorer LimthiumX-DualHDD

Dual HDD support is VERY NEW, most apps and dashboards are not updated to support it yet. You will need to make sure your paths are pointing to HDD0 or HDD1 depending on where your games are stored.

Hello.
Friends, is there a tutorial explaining and showing how to perform the procedure to add the new hard drive? I've followed the topic so far, but I don't have in-depth knowledge of some of the information that has been shared here.

It is still early days for the Dual HDD setup tbf, most dashboards/software don't yet support it.

But, syaing that if you want to give it a go then you will need to use the latest UIX Lite dashboard as that is the only dash that supports it at the moment.

You will also need to se FatXplorer to format the second drive.
