C64MidRezzie
Hi - I have a choice between a Philips or Samsung DVD drive for my newly softmodded xbox - both read disks - which one is the better option as I have quite a large collection of games on disk and intend on copying as many as I can to my hard drive but at 260GB with Coin ops 8 massive on there and other emulators - the disk drive will definitely get some use. Magicaldave
I have a purely personal preference for the Phillips drives. Although I have a weird issue with one where whatever console it’s attached to won’t boot and I hear sometimes fuses in then blow. However, regardless of how well they seem to be running all these DVD drives are on their last legs. If you’re not concerned about spending a lot more time doing it, you can rip, extract, and FTP the games onto your Xbox from a pc or Mac. Wow - I never even thought of that - I am pretty good with FTP now that I transferred Coin Ops 8 Massive to an xbox last night - I never thought of ripping the games and copying them accross - does anyone know of a good video of this idea on youtube? Or maybe a link to a good guide - I wouldn't even know where to start program wise - I have both a mac and a PC - thanks!
Ging3rguy
Look on YouTube for a video explaining how to do it but it is pretty straight forward. There are a few apps that will do it. I use dvd2xbox. Download a copy or you my find it is already in your app folder. Open it, put your disk in your xbox, set the destination folder, either f: games or g: games hit the start button and away you go.

Thanks for that - is it possible to transfer game saves from one xbox to another?

I can’t precisely recall offhand but all game saves are in E:/, I *think* in the UDATA folder. Watch a softmod tutorial like MrMario’s and you should see the exploit saves go into the flash drive on either TDATA or UDATA.

KaosEngineer
Some games sign their saves with a cryptographic signature generated with the HDkey from the Xbox they were created on and cannot be transferred to another Xbox without resigning them with a new signature for the Xbox they will be used on. You have to know the HDKey of the Xbox they were created on and the new HDKey you are going to store them on to re-sign them. Not all games require being re-signed. Here's a list of some that do: Forza Motorsports also has to be resigned. Forza Xbox scene dev's created the Windows App ForzaSign for it.
