Enemy Ai
Hi all I have an X3 with the latest BIOS on but it fails to load HDD with XBMC4Gamers. If I take out the HDD and place it in my Xecuter 2.6. It works perfectly fine but in the X3 I get the 06 Error. I have a cheap SATA to PATA/IDE connector on my 1TB HDD, and I realise that many don't like them. I would point out that it is working just fine in the other xbox, however. Any ideas why the X3 is struggling where the X2 isn't?
Magicaldave
Error 06 is improperly locked HdD. Since your systems are chipped you can probably just unlock it and move on. Make sure you’ve got an EEPROM backup, of course, just in case.
KaosEngineer
Error 6 - HDD cannot be unlocked. The HDD is locked with a unique password generated by an algorithm that uses the Xbox's unique HDDKey and model and serial number of the hard drive to be locked. Currently, the HDD is locked with such a password and is only accessible to the console it was originally installed in - the console with the X2 modchip. The HDD needs to be unlocked before it can be installed in a different hardmodded console. Each console shipped from the factory by Microsoft had its own unique HDDKey and the hard drive was locked with a unique password generated by it for this particular hard drive. The Xbox BIOS computes this unique unlocking password each time it boots. It then send the ATA security command with the computed password to the hard drive to unlock it. Unlocking the hard drive gains read/write access to the data stored on it. Thus, it is impossible (well not actually, but more on that later) to swap HDDs while booting the Xbox's stock BIOS. One function of the modified/hacked BIOSes is to eliminate/bypass the ATA security feature MS designed into the console. Since both console's are booting a modified BIOS, you can unlock the hard drive which will allow you to move it freely between the hard modded consoles. One nice feature of using a modchip (hardmod) over a softmod. A softmodded console still boots the stock BIOS on the motherboard which requires the HDD to be locked to that console. There is a way around that too (this is the later part mentioned above) which will allow HDDs to be moved between NULL'd HDDKey softmodded consoles. The HDDKey is no longer unique but the same value on all of the NULL'd consoles. It is set to zero (NULL).

It works perfectly fine You'll need to keep it in the other Xbox with the Xecuter 2.6 and then unlock it (e.g. with the tools on the HeXEn DVD). Once it is unlocked then your other Xbox with the X3 will be able to use it.
Enemy Ai
Thanks for the info guys, it's appreciated. I'm off to work now but when I get home I'll unlock it. I've ordered a Startech adaptor for my main box, as I saw a vid that indicated they're faster. Will let you know how I get on.

If speed is a factor here, also ensure you’re using big an 80-wire, 40-pin Ultra ATA cable of about 18” or 24” and maybe consider removing your dvd drive as well. Enemy Ai
I unlocked thew drive and its working fine in both boxes. Thanks. Ovcer the weekend I'll be reading up on installing the rocky5's XBMC4Gamers. I saw a layout somewhere that looked a little like an xbox 360. Would that be a script? Anyway, if you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. If not, I'll have a good read over the weekend to see if I can work out what it was I saw. Thanks
