Emulators Not Showing + Some Other Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First time modder here having some issues with the setup after upgrading the hdd.

I have a modchipped v1.6 OG XboX and set it up with a 160 GB IDE hdd using the Hexxen 2018 disc. I also switched to a 80-pin IDE cable.
The install went well, and I have uploaded games via ftp and can play them from the hdd.
I then created a Emulator folder on E:\ and put a N64 emulator there (Surreal64CE B6.0), and the roms in the Roms folder, but the Emulators-'tab' is not showing when starting the XboX.

I installed XBMC from the Hexxen 2018 disc, but there is nothing showing under the System\Emulators tab in XBMC.

Also the display in XBMC is too large for the tv-screen, and changing the options (Normal/Widescreen/Letterbox) does nothing.
The bullet options for 460, 720 and so on in XBMC display settings are greyed out, and I cannot use them.

This is also true for the display settings in the XboX Admin/Settings in the dash which shows up when I start the XboX, but I got a correct display after disabling Pal-60.

Last, I am not able to set a static IP address when switching from DHCP to static. I can input the new IP, but when I click OK, it still says IP: 0.0.0.0.

The display and ftp issues are not serious per se, but I would like it all to be in working order, and not being able to play the emulators is a bummer.

I have bought a 2TB hdd, and am currently waiting for a Startech IDE to Sata adapter to arrive, and was hoping to have it all working when upgrading to the Sata disk.
My option now is to try the whole procedure again and see, but don't know if it will make any difference...

Can anyone please help point me in the right direction to get it all working as I would like?

-Thank you.

I believe that the folder should be called Emulators.

Also if you go to XBMC settings you will be able to adjust the display so that it fits your screen correctly. It may be called overscan... I’m not by my Xbox at the moment so I can’t check.

As for FTP I would recommend just using the DHCP setting and not bother with a static ip.

I have just done the whole 2TB sata upgrade myself and used the startech adapter.

In XBMC, you need to run through the screen calibration to adjust the screen to fit your TV.

System -> Appearance to subitem Display on the left side then D-pad right over to Video calibration.  Follow the on-screen instructions to set the upper-left and lower-right corners and subtitle text positions.

As for the Emulators, you need to configure the path as there's not one preconfigured for XBMC4Xbox.

Go to Programs menu item and press the A button.  You should see a list with Apps, Emulators, games, Program plugins and Add source. Scroll down to emulators and press the White button to show a pop-up menu.  Go to Add source to browse to the location where you are installing the emulators (e.g., E:\Emulators).

Static IP address

First, was it obtaining an IP address from your router when set to use DHCP?

How are you networked?

Do you see the link light lit, green LED, on the Xbox's Ethernet port and the one on the device at the other end of the cable it's connected to?

The yellow LED on the Xbox's Ethernet jack shows network activity. It should flicker intermittently when data is being transferred over the network.

Thank you both for your helpful replies!

@nikeymikey - When I said I had made an Emulator-folder on E:\, I doublechecked, and had in fact already named it Emulators.

The thing that got it to work, was configuring the path, as described by KaosEngineer. Also calibrating the display in XBMC.
Everything looks great now, and the emulators are working like a charm. Thank you so much!

Regarding the static IP-issue - the XboX is obtaining its IP from the router using DHCP. It is cabled to a switch, which is connected to the router.

The green LED is constant on both the XboX Ethernet Port and the switch it is connected to, and the yellow LED on the XboX Ethernet port is flashing when transmitting data.

It is of no big concern though, as its connected and working using DHCP, I would just like to have the option to set a static IP if I could.

Eagerly awaiting the IDE to Sata adapter now, to upgrade the hdd again, and was also thinking of replacing the stock fan, as it is quite noisy when turned on.

Thank you so much again!

I also just recently modded an xbox..Aladdin xt plus2\2tb drive on a 1.0. Is there a way to have an emulator option in unleashx?  I made an Emulators folder in e f & g and got nothing the only thing that worked was putting a folder in e:\apps  and going into xbox\admin apps.

Found my answer.  Add this to config.xml on c:\

<List Text="Emulators" Sort="On" Auto="On">
<Path>F:\emulators</Path>
</List>

Here's where I put mine and how it now looks in the skin I am using.

<Item Action="LaunchDVD">Launch Disc</Item>

        </List>
<List Text="Emulators" Sort="On" Auto="On">
<Path>F:\emulators</Path>
</List>

        <List Text="Game Management" Sort="Off" Auto="On">

You could also add the path lines for E and G drives:

<Path>E:\emulators</Path>

<Path>F:\emulators</Path>

<Path>G:\emulators</Path>

Basically did the same, I just put mine 1 step below under Game Management. Works great!

      I successfully set up XBMC Emustation and now I'm wondering which emulators are the best for each system- any ideas greatly appreciated.

      Hey guys!

      I've got a couple boxes I threw some SSDs into recently and they don't load the dash, but as it says on the tin, only every OTHER time I turn it on.
      Startup works normally up until AFTER the "X" logo.
      Either the LED will stay solid green, and the screen will just be completely black forever (to be fair, only ever left it for about and hour while I was doing other stuff for giggles) OR the LED goes solid red like I've set it and loads UnleashX A-okay. Things both run like a champ in this state, haven't seen anything unusual, even the temps are great with stock paste.

      This happens with:
      - 2 brand new ADATA ASU655SS-480GT-C units, both of which were cloned from an IDE-based box with a 750GB seagate. The system they were cloned from was 1.6, softmodded with SID5, then upgraded to Rocky5. No issues on that console. These drives have NOT been tested in other functional consoles. Yet.
      - Three 80-wire IDE cables, two of which were running active duty in other consoles prior to testing and one of which died for some reason during the test.
      - Four IDE-SATA adapters - an HDE, a Startech IDE2SAT, and 2 Startech IDE2SAT2s (I haven't gone through the trouble of comparing ALL adapter and cable combos but at this point I don't think it matters)
      - A 1.4 and 1.6 version console
      - UnleashX Version 0.39.0528A Build 584, as installed by Rocky5's softmod
      The fact that the LED stays green on the failed boot seems like the system somehow things everything is normal and the SSD has just... stopped? Somewhere? I'm not sure. I think maybe this could be related to the BIOS or DVD drive, as both consoles are only softmodded.
      I plan to TSOP the 1.4 anyway, but I can't TSOP the 1.6 or (easily) remove its DVD drive, which I'm not inclined to do anyway as it works great. Wondering if anyone had some suggestions I perhaps haven't tried yet.

      Thanks so much for any and all assistance!
