  1. Hi. I have an XCM Ruby Red Xbox that is very faulty; I'm looking to swap it to a non modded Xbox with LED IF POSSIBLE. I would like to send it to you to have this done (I live in NJ, USA). My discord is Luke007#3295 to discuss further.
  2. Hi all, I tried searching but didn't see this exact question. I have an old softmodded (10 years ago?) v1.6 XBOX that I tried to install an Aladdin XT+2 on so I could double the RAM. Long story short, I think I borked that motherboard and it won't boot now. I've gotten a replacement v1.4 XBOX and correctly installed the Aladdin and gotten it to boot properly to EvoX. Is there a way I can transfer my modded HDD from the 1.6 to my 1.4 with the Aladdin? I had XBMC and a lot of apps installed so would prefer not to start from scratch. Thanks!
  3. I have a hard modded console with a 1TB HDD that I would like to swap into a softmodded console that has a 500gb and vice versa. I know that something has to be done with the HDD keys but I dont know the exact details and don't want to mess anything up. Both systems have config magic currently installed. The reason I want to do a simple swap is because I have recently backed up all my games to the 1TB and really don't want to have to go through the hassle of cloning with chimp and then backing them all up again, so if someone is able to give me a quick step by step on what I need to do with both console it would be really appreciated?
  4. Hello All, Long time listener, first time caller here. I have never modded an XBOX before, but looks like a fun project and I wanted to run my plan by the gurus on this forum to avoid any potential pitfalls (i.e. destroying the data on the original HDD doing something stupid being a newbie) after watching a ton of YouTube videos on the subject. I have an OG XBOX v1.6 that was modded and setup around 6-7 years ago. The motherboard died and I am looking to swap that drive into a new system and upgrade it to an unlocked SATA HDD (I don't want to have to deal with locked HDDs anymore). I have no knowledge of how it was built originally aside from the HDD password, but I love how it is laid out and boots up directly in to the emulator menu, etc and want to keep that. There is no evidence of any hard modding on the motherboard (no chip, no bridged soldering, etc), so I am assuming some version of soft mod. I have two working units (v1.2 & v1.4) and both are currently soft modded with the latest Rocky5 build with stock HDDs. I did install XMBC-Emustation on one of them, but aside from that, they have nothing special going on with them and I don't need anything off those drives. 30K foot view of my plan is as follows: 1. TSOP mod one of the working units and flash the BIOS with Evox M8 with F & G (HeXen 2020). 2. Take the currently modded HDD (400GB) out of the dead unit and using Victoria, remove the user password. 3. Install that HDD in the new TSOP modded unit and test (I assume that since the password is removed from the drive and the BIOS is flashed, it will simply boot even though I have no idea how the HDD was originally prepared). 4. Assuming steps 1 - 3 go as planned, convert the TSOP unit to an 80-pin cable and IDE/SATA adapter and clone the HDD to a WD Blue 500GB SATA using Chimp. -Am I correct in that I should pick the TSOP hard mod option in Chimp even though the HDD itself is soft modded? -Since my new SATA is bigger than the drive I am cloning, pick option 2 for select partitions and pick option 4 so partition G takes up all the remaining space on the larger drive 5. Shut it all down and remove the stock hard drive and install the SATA in the unit and hopefully it all boots up correctly. 6. Assuming everything up to this point went well, clone the new SATA drive with Chimp to another WD Blue 500GB (this time I can just pick the full disk clone option) 7. TSOP the second working unit and install the cloned drive and have 2 working, upgraded units. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions. I appreciate the feedback!
  5. Just a quick summary of my situation: My xbox was running OpenXenium with a 1TB HDD that was filled with content. I ruined that v1.4 motherboard trying to do an install, so scrapped it. I purchased another v1.4 motherboard as a replacement. (This motherboard replacement also came with a paired OEM HDD, btw). What is the best way to get that 1TB HDD working with this motherboard? I tried running it with OpenXenium, but get Error Code 6, which I believe refers to unlocked HDD (so I must not have unlocked it previously). Is there anyway I can salvage all of the data on this 1TB drive? Or will I have to reformat it for this motherboard and start over again?
  6. Just a theoretical pondering as I could not find any info on it. I know you can null a HDD key on a soft mod’d xbox so I was wondering if it was possible to null and lock a hdd using a tsopd xbox then transfer it into the soft mod’d xbox? Cheers
  7. Hi all! I need some help with switching out the hard drive in my XBOX. I've been battling with it for some time, so I decided to get some help. My XBOX version is 1.1. I currently have it softmodded with Rocky5's softmod. Originally, I had gotten a 1TB SATA drive for my XBOX (WD10EZEX-22MFCAO, which seemed like a good choice, since many other WD10EZEX drives seemed to work for others in the hard drive compatibility chart). Along with it, I got a SATA to IDE adapter, an 80-wire IDE cable, and the molex power splitter. When I first attempted to configure the drive, the exposed contacts from the back of the SATA to IDE adapter (where the power connects in) touched the back of the hard drive when I was hot swapping the IDE cable. There was a spark (I didn't think to cover the connection), and since CHIMP would never load, I assumed I had fried the drive. I ordered another one, and it wouldn't work either, so I realized it was a compatibility issue. After this, I decided to switch to a smaller, cheaper IDE drive (this Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 hard drive) that a friend said he had gotten to work before. I ordered it and attempted to configure it (using the original 40 wire IDE cable and no SATA to IDE adapter of course), and while I was able to launch CHIMP, it errors out part way through the process. Here's what I've been doing: Install CHIMP to E:/Apps, and place linuxboot.cfg into my E: drive Open the XBOX. Unplug the molex cable from the original hard drive and connect the splitter to it, one end of which I connect back to the original hard drive Place the new hard drive on top of my DVD drive (with the antistatic bag the drive came in between them) Check the mode of my new hard drive. I have tried it both with the jumper in the Cable Select Enabled position, and in Slave mode (no jumper) Launch the XBOX and wait 5 minutes for the DVD drive to go to sleep Swap the IDE cable from the DVD drive to the slave drive (within 5 seconds) Go to my applications list and launch CHIMP On the first menu button prompt, I press A to confirm that the slave drive is connected CHIMP begins to run its processes. After loading for a bit, it gets stuck on a screen saying that it can't allocate resources, with a picture of the Linux penguin in the top right I'm assuming that since CHIMP can actually boot up with this drive, that the problem might not be the drive itself, though I could be wrong (with the previous WD10EZEX drives, my XBOX would just completely freeze up when I booted CHIMP). I've tested my XBOX with just the existing hard drive installed, and that has no problems, as I'm able to play games fine and navigate through the dashboard just fine. I'm not entirely sure where my problem could be coming from, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
  8. Hi, have a fresh repair xbox 1.4 console but now I should replace hard disk and put a one stock taken from another hard disk how can I do? The console modded with openxenium modchip.
  9. Hi Looks like the power supply of my Xbox has died and was going to swap it with another Xbox a friend gave me, but turns out the hardware got changed somewhere along the lines and it's not do-able to swap the power supplies, so figured i'd just swap the hard drive instead allowing me to keep my games/dashboard etc. It's been a long time since i soldered the chip on my dead Xbox and the other one i have has a different chip. Anyway, am getting 06, 13 and 21 errors on the Xbox with the newly installed hard drive. Is there anyway to keep my existing files on my original hard drive? Remember something about the locking key on the Xbox hard drive - do i need to copy this over from the hard drive i removed? Am looking at downloading the Hexen disc to start off. Any help would be great. Thanks
  10. So im working with a v1.0 xbox and I am trying to install the img from a 2tb Origins build. I have my original HDD softmodded and it is working fine. I was able to null the original HDD key and pull the EEPROM off and after successfully mounting the img to a new 2TB HDD was able to lock it with the pulled EEPROM with XBHDM. When I turn on the system with the new HDD it will show the xbox logo with "Microsoft" in white on the bottom, then it goes to a black screen. The LED stays green. Looking around I saw suggested that this meant that the softmod or .xbe was broken or that the shortcut linked to the needed .xbe didn't exist, so using XBHDM and Xplorer360 i was able to get into the new HDD and I was messing around with the config and .xbe files and got it to work at one point (kinda, and i'm not sure what exactly made it work, i know i know i should have taken better notes of what i was doing but this was a several day process and I had tried like 50+ different modifications/combinations). It would boot into a black screen as normal but when i opened up the disk drive the screen would flash and I would get another xbox logo splash screen without the Microsoft in white on the bottom, the LED would turn orange, and then it would boot up into the new dashboard/image. That worked fine for a few hours, even after disconnecting power and reconnecting. Then all of the sudden it stopped going to the new dashboard and img when opening the disk drive and the screen will stay black (i figured it may be an issue with taking a long time to load so i've let it sit there for 15min+ and nothing happens). I am at a complete loss, im somewhat tech savy but I have no idea how to even approach this fix. Any help would be much appreciated and I thank you in advance! Edit - I used the Splintercell save to softmod via USB, which worked fine to softmod with the old HDD. With the new HDD in it will not load any disks, be it the Splinter Cell game, Hexen Tools, or the Rocky5 Softmod Extras, and I cannot do anything but power off when its on the black screen.
  11. I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks
  12. Hi - I softmodded my xbox original five years ago and didn't use it much because of a house move. I took it out last night and realised that the upgraded 250GB drive is very noisy and sounds like it is dying. I upgraded before using Chimp. I am wondering can I use Chimp again with another 250GB hard drive or does the next hard drive have to be bigger than the 250GB drive? I have looked for an answer on google but all search returns related to upgrading to a larger drive from the stock drive - there doesn't seem to be anything about swapping a drive for another drive that is equal in size. Kind Regards
  13. So now that I have got my new Dashboard running and have my games ready, it's time to start getting the stuff for the HDD swap. I am going to get a StarTech IDE2SAT2 adapter, but I know that the Xbox can be picky with what SATA drives it will work with. I was thinking of going with a WesternDigital Black or SeaGate. but what are the drives that people have the most success with? Also, in regards to size, are 3.5" drives a pain to fit inside the console? Or would it just save a lot of headache going with a 2.5" drive? Also, I'm a little confused on what steps I need to take to get it all set up once I have the HDD and the adapter. Do I need a boot disk as well? And Chimp clones the existing drive while XBPartitioner will format the new drive? I found this guide at XBMC4Xbox, but its about 7 years old so I am not sure if any of the information is outdated or has changed with new methods: https://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=649&hilit=2tb
