  1. I bougt a faulty Xbox crystal. The Xbox dident turn on so I open it up and replaced 3 caps that was bad. When I tried it again it starts up, but freezes on the Xbox logo. I turned it off and tried again and suddenly it worked and went in to the games archive. Then I turned off and now it refuses to go onto the boot menu again. The unit keeps freezing at the xbox logo. I suspected bad solderjoints at the modchip so I resolder all joints including the joints on the Aladdin chip. But no luck. This unit has the clock capacitor besides the IDE connector and it looks fine. There is no visible corrotion on the board.
  2. Hi there, Noob that just join this community for some solid advice/direction for my upgrade, I have a working 1.6A xbox with a Super Aladdin Live modchip running XBMC on a 80 Gb IDE HDD My aim is to upgrade the HDD to a 500 Gb Sata HDD (I know I could go bigger) and also upgrade to Rocky 5 instead.... I currently have: - The 80 wire/40 pin IDE cable (ATA 100/133) - IDE to Sata converter - 500Gb Sata HDD What are my options? Do I have to hot swap the HDD with the disk drive with a program running on the xbox ? Thanks in advance for any help or links for guides/programs to help me !!
  3. Hello friends I opened my Xbox today to see which mod chip is installed because I bought the device used. It turned out to be a Super Aladdin live chip. I would like to install a larger hard drive with 2TB. I've already ordered the adapter and cables. Now I am wondering if I have to flash my BIOS and which one I should use on this chip. Since I almost never flash, I have to rely on external help. I have already figured out how to format the hard drive with Hexen. It looks like I have Evolution X as an app on the device, only the sign is not displayed to me when booting. My Xbox says OPENXDK at the bottom. Thank you in advance for your help.
  4. I"m seeking advice on upgrading the Bios on my original Xbox due a larger hard drive installed which also needs a 32k cluster size. Therefore I'm after a better and known BIOS which has LBA48 (+137GB) and only enables partition6 (f:). Xbox info (Known) Console model: v1 (0a) Mod chip: Super Aladdin Live Hard drive WD 500GB (PATA) *NOS DVD: Thomson (yuck!) so little luck making it boot CD/DVDs Kernel Version: 1.0.4981.6 Current Bios: Unknown - possibility custom (Xecuter2 4981) Currently the xbox HD is formatted 16k cluster size and I am experiencing issues in relation to this and want it to be 32k. When I run XBPartitioner to correct this, it displays: Therefore I just need a more recent bios with LBA48 v2+ that also keeps other feature like In Game Reset (IGR) Which is why I'm asking this question to you. From my research I've learnt that for BIOS that enables partition #6 is labelled as x.06 for both partitions #6 and #7 is x.67. I've read that Aladdin (mod chips) will only take 256k (default). Inside the xbox is the Super Aladdin Live and know little about chip size or amount of banks as only I've found was on the knightdiscount website. Since my xbox possible has Xecuter2 4981, thought these would be go choice: Xecuter2 4983 however after looking at: I have been look a the All Retail Bios Information chart on this forum. All I know if I flash the wrong bios I'll have to re-flash it with hardware I just don't have. Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi, Since finding out about this website, I have been amazed at what people can do with xbox's both hardware and with designs. So naturally i went to Facebook to search for the cheapest xbox to practice my first time modding and painting on. Sure enough I found a broken one for 20$, I opened it up and it just needed new caps by the power supply, but in the time it had taken for the new caps to come in the wheels started turning on crazy designs and theme. I started with the jewel, I wanted it to be clear for sure and light up, I saw a post about a guy who used a 80mm cold cathode under the jewel and it glowed beautiful. The next day I ordered one off Ebay UV of course, after that was done I focused on my theme. I decided on Yu-Gi-Oh, I'm assuming you just said why, but it was my life when I was a kid lol. The paint was next on my list, I had an idea of a stone box design that had the 3 Egyptian God card's on it, great idea I thought. So next I went to Wal-Mart to look at spray paint and found a nice light color, like what I would think would fit the theme. Cutting was next for jewel hole, I wish I could of said drilling was next cause my hole is not circle haha. I should of did more research and found out earlier that you can just use a drill, but hey I'm learning. I then painted 5 coats of this Rust-Oleum Multicolor Textured spray paint, allowing 24 hours to cure in between coats, which turned out to look how I imagined it. While those where drying I spent time on the jewel to make it nice a clear, man was that an arm/thumb workout, after about an hour i had it nice and clear. So next was the cards, I wanted them to be on the xbox themselves, but the only thing I could think of to use was epoxy resin for a seamless look.I knew I was kinda on my own, becasue I saw nothing online about someone doing that to a console. So I needed something to practice on, then out of no where, I think of the dvd drive that I just replaced the belt in sitting on the table taken apart looking like a perfect contender lol. Soon I was pouring resin on the top metal housing, granted this wasn't just a random idea anymore, it had stemmed off to a whole new inside theme "The Shadow Realm". Though I didn't know how i was gonna make that happen. I started thinking and I grabbed my UV dye from when I was into pc water cooling, and added that to the resin to give it a glow like it was in "The Shadow Realm", if you have seen the original show you know what I'm talking about. So now I'm waiting the 3 days for it fully harden so I can sand and buff it, I know it looks bad now but the sides are gonna be painted a nice dark metallic color. In the mean time I did a test with a card to see how it will look with glitter to give a really cool effect with the clear resin, and I like it! Pictures don't really do it justice the way it looks in person with the light is pretty cool in my opinion. Everything at the moment is drying so I have nothing to do except think of cool idea's, which includes a lot of resin and paint haha. Updates will continue!
  6. Hi all, First post here. Have my soft modded OG xbox that I have had for probably 18 years. Has a 120GB HDD in it, and I use it mostly for Mame at this point. Just last evening, it started doing something very strange. It boots up OK, I get the factory boot animation, "Matrix Inside", etc, but then when it transitions to the EVO-X menu, the screen only updates what looks like a frame every 2 seconds. It will slloooooowly fade in the EVO-X menu, then I can hold "down" on the controller and it will slooooowly move from one menu entry to the next. It's almost unusable. Once I start an app, everything is OK. For example, Mame works fine. It just literally takes 5-10 minutes to get through the menu to start it up. It has been probably 15 years since I have messed with this thing, as far as modifying anything. Anyone have any suggestion as to what might be going on?
  7. Hello everyone! For the last little while I've been working on reviving Xbox Live on the Original Xbox. I've made some good progress along the way including the signature check and even decrypting the time stamp. There was a forum post similar to this on AssemblerGames (Rip that forum) however I feel the need to start from the beginning. I currently have a GitHub repository that will remain to be open source for the duration of development which can be found here: https://github.com/zzVertigo/XboxLive.Server If anyone has any suggestions our happen to notice something that I am a missing it will be much appreciated :P Thanks.
