  1. I think this is just a "replace the power supply" issue (DPSN-96DP), but I'd appreciate anyone's insight if they have advice: (Video of issue) https://imgur.com/INZWEUK Summary -- push power, no LED ring lights, X3 mod chip front indicator panel briefly lights up, then turns off. Eject button has same result. Case fan briefly twitches when power/eject is pressed. Continuously holding the power button 'on' keeps the lights on the X3 front panel lit, and the hard drive can be heard spinning up, but then nothing appears and it powers back off after release. Removed the motherboard, examined the traces to see if there was any rot -- looks really, really clean, nothing was visible after several minutes of inspecting. (Shot of a section of board) https://imgur.com/HIuVLGm CPU capacitors look a little sussy and puffed, I should replace, but nothing leaking onto the board. Clock capacitor looks good, too, but I think I should replace that as well. (CPU caps) https://imgur.com/NR7H58m (Clock cap) https://imgur.com/pFDgFPA Probably will get capacitors from Console5, I have enjoyed ordering from them before. Should I just replace the power supply? Is that what this issue looks like? https://imgur.com/FVbfgB6 (Delta power supply) Thanks anyone that feels like replying! This is my daily driver, I'd like to have it back!
  2. I am mostly making this post to see what the best option is for me to enjoy my xbox for a much longer time. Like if my problem is the disc reader, but there are other options to get around even using it in the first place, I'm very open to it. I got a used Xbox a while ago but over the past few months I've been having to reboot games just to play them, and now it's to the point where the console can't even read them. The disc looks fine, but obviously it could not be fine. However, I think it's the drive itself. I've thought about just replacing the disc reader so I can use my games again, but recently I've been looking at mods and I'm curious about a few things. I think it's best for me to show my desires and then get a suggestion on what to do. I am willing to pay any price to keep enjoying the games I love, so cost is a non-issue. But I don't know much about what a modded Xbox is capable of. There's so much info on here, it's hard to digest. All I want is to play Corvette Racing and Sonic Mega Collection Plus. That is my only desire. Is there an Xbox mod where I can avoid using the disc reader and have the games on an SSD or hard drive? How can I verify that the disc reader is the problem, and it's not my discs? I have like ten games and they all give me the same error when I put them in, so I am leaning towards that the Xbox itself may be the issue. It would be cool to easily get more games or just use the discs to download them to whatever storage thing I have on the console. Then I can easily change games without having to get up and put in a new disc and I don't have to rely on a disc reader or having a scratched disc. Is this a thing or am I crazy?
  3. Can XBOX games be read in RAR format or do they need to be ISO format in order to transfer over by QWIX? OR can they be transfered over in another way to FTP and keep in RAR format and the XBOX can read it?
  4. Hello guys, I tried to change large hard drive by use Chimp application, but show this error message. Could you help me? I am not sure what step is wrong. My process step as below: 1. Console turn-off, plug new hard drive power. (no connect IDE bus) 2.Console turn-on, my console already softmod by hotswapping 3.Run Chimp application 4.Take out DVD IDE bus and plug to new hard drive 5.I saw console show some message, should be OK 6.Go to dialog box, but show this message, "slave device can not be locked" And I check program function, slave device function is disable. By the way, before plug new hard drive, I format by FATXplorer. Any mistake of the procedure? Need you help! thanks so much!
  5. Hello, i got a new xbox, and i had a few issues with it just to establish some info: it's been staying in my appartment for about 2 years without even plugging it in, idk how much it stayed at the seller's place The sticker on the bottom (where the screws are) has not yet been broken The xbox uses the philips dvd drive It's from europe (PAL) So, it has been emmiting this quite high pitched sound constantly, it's not very loud but it still gives me headaches Also my custom CDs don't seem to work on it (xbox can't recognize disc), however i tried a few more official-ish discs and they worked Any tips?
  6. Hey there everyone, just purchased an unmodded Xbox and I'm having issues. I tested with multiple games and for some reason, the console cannot read discs. It can boot to the menu and works perfectly fine in that regard, but when I put a disc in the green lift around the eject key will blink for a few times and then... Nothing. I don't get a read error or damaged disc message, it simply does nothing. No error code, everything else seems to work perfectly fine, but it simply won't read discs. It is a samsung disc drive and I opened it and did a bit of cleaning, checked the wires for seemingly any damage or missing pins which there weren't any and nothing has changed. The disc drive is clean, the connections are fine, and the discs are all basically flawless. Any ideas or advice?

  8. I have an OpenXenium chip installed in my 1.6 box w/ 2TB Sata HDD; StarTech adapter; Chimeric custom 80 ide cable. I just finished installing the Xenium RGB mod by Nemesis. So I downloaded all of the Xenium OS LED and Skin files. Uploaded them to their own subdirs in a subdir named XeniumOS on E:\ so: E:\XeniumOS\Skins -and- E:\XeniumOS\LEDS when I select Choose LEDs... the only thing that shows up is <Default>, not the list of leds. I thought that was weird so I made sure E:\XeniumOS dir existed w/ sub dir LEDS, yep it does. Still stumped I thought well maybe the chip isn't reading from the HDD for some reason...so I opened Disk Tools from the OS menu and selected Format Partition and choose the Z partition. Selected Master selected Yes all the way through til I was REALLY sure....it said "Failed to format partition!" Did the same for Slave. So I confirmed it's not reading from the HDD...then I thought well i should FTP in and see if I can see the list of directories, they aren't there. I put my orig 8GB IDE HDD in w/ orig IDE cable and tried the same thing....it shows the LED files and Skin files. I'm stumped trying to figure this out. I've made sure the blue end of the IDE cable is connected to the HDD. Tried ALL of the jumper locations on the StarTech adapter; Master, Slave, CS and the other one. I have no idea, I gave up for the evening. FWIW, XBMC loads fine and I can see all of my files in the dash and FTP, games and apps load fine from the HDD...so It's a Xenium OS issue; it's probably related to another issue but I'm not sure what it is so I made this post asking for help. Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to get read access to my sata HDD in the Xenium OS? TIA!
  9. Hi The other day I grabbed my console from my loft, it's a 1.1 with a Samsung Drive, fitted with an X2 chip from back in the day. Before switching it on I had it apart and removed the clock cap, I cleaned up the area and couldn't see damage apart from to one of the unused VIAs under the cap (it looks like it's designed to allow a different sized cap in this spot right?). I did a visual inspection of the other caps and couldn't see any bulges or obvious leaks. I don't know which version BIOS is on the X2, looking around the HDD it's likely 5031 or 5035, and it's got an EvoX dash on it, I found a Slayers 2.7 disc so I'm guessing I used this. Now the actual problem! The tray keeps ejecting whilst I'm sat on the dash. It ejects, I close it and the dash reports INIT in the disc status, i hear it trying to read and then it gives up and ejects again, then goes around in a loop. I had to goto work then, so switched it all off and left it. Returned from work later and try again. This time whilst it was doing the eject, init, eject ini loop I was searching for solutions and trying it with the X2 disabled and enabled. Finally the tray stays shut. I launch a game off of the HDD and it's fine. Booted my Slayers disc and it was fine. Search results were saying that Samsung have tray getting stuck issues normally. Check for things obstructing in the drive and give it a grease. Other results were saying that the clock cap could have caused some damage that relates to this (but that also depends on mobo version). I'm leaving it off again now, to see if it misbehaves after cooling down again (which is what happened earlier), and then I'll be pulling it apart again to have another look. I'm a bit gutted that I ordered a bunch of Cap Kits from Console5 last week for other machines but wasn't thinking about the old xbox at the time. Ordering just the xbox kit will cost more in shipping (to the UK) than the caps and be slow at the moment. I'll have to look for a UK supplier or stop being lazy and buy the individual caps! Can anyone advise on what is most likely out of the causes I mention, or even if there's more things to look at ta Pete
  10. Hi,have a one of this Philips VAD-6011/21 DVD drive fitted on Xbox 1.4, no longer read anything even the original games, is it possible to calibrate the lens?
  11. please help me i have an error 13 on my xbox and i was wondering if can use a halo 2 iso burnt on a DVD to fix it
  12. Hello. I'm a new poster here. I have a 1.6 version xbox that has notoriously gone through phases where it gives the disc read error for any and every disc including audio cd. After giving up on the system for days or weeks, I can return to it and it suddenly reads all discs again. Most recently, it was not reading anything AND the sticky tray finally quit working, so I removed, cleaned, and replaced the belt. Not only did the drawer work fine, but it started reading discs again. So now, once again, trying to play Deathrow, the drive tried and tried to load the game, green light was flashing, then the disc read error appeared. At this point, when I try any disc, I hear three quiet "click" sounds from the drive when the tray closes, and the disc error appears very quickly. It's almost like it has switched to some default mode where it just "assumes" it won't read the disc. There is very little to no drive activity first, before the error appears. Is there some form of memory in the HDD that is forcing the error to occur without even attempting to load the disc? Can I somehow "clear" this memory? I am skeptical that the drive has failed, since as I said, it works brilliantly for long stretches of time until it just decides not to.
  13. So I'm having a bit of a problem and haven't been able to find a solution. The disc drive is able to read discs. It can see that the disc is a game, and I can open up the disc in file manager to view it's contents. But when I try to load the game, it absolutely refuses to load. Tried burned discs on a couple different DVD-R vendors, and even original game discs. It's a phillips disc drive. It could be the drive going bad, but then I wouldn't think it would be able to read the disc as a game and view the contents of it. I guess for some additional information, current have ind-bios 5003 06, UnleashX for the dashboard. Tried cleaning the lens in the drive with alcohol. I'd like to be able to have it read discs in case I do something stupid and can fix it from the console with a disc rather than have to open it up to take the drive out and work on it form the PC. I'm hoping there's some way to fix it without just replacing the drive entirely. I have the tools to work inside the drive if needed.
  14. Hi - I have a 500GB SATA drive upgrade complete with Startech SATA to IDE connector and 80 pin IDE cable. However, I still feel my 400 GB IDE xbox loads coin ops games quicker. I bought a new old stock 500GB IDE drive and now I want to clone my SATA drive to my IDE Drive. Is this possible? I could use Chimp or could I use HDM V1.9? I would Prefer to use HDM V1.9 but I'm not sure it would recognise a SATA drive even if it is connected using a Startech SATA to IDE - anyone shed any light on this? Thanks
  15. So I got a STartech Sata to IDE adapter and successfully made and locked a new SATA 500 GG hard drive using HDM v1.9. i got an 80 pin cable and connected my SATA drive and sure enough it booted to the Xbox dashboard. I had my Rocky 5 softmod files and Splinter Cell diskready to go but I can’t load Splinter Cell - I get a message reading - “Your Xbox cannot recognize this disc. Make sure it’s an Xbox game, DVD movie, or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged.” I have tried a different dvd drive from another Xbox that I know loads the game and I get the same message. In fact I get the same message if I try to load any other Xbox game disk. Any ideas greatly appreciated
  16. Hey everyone, I wanted to start a discussion/thread about games that are in perfect working condition but for some reason the DVD Drive is too old or stubborn to read the game. I of course have 2 consoles both with Thompson drives and I found (so far) that neither will read the following games: 1. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2. Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring. Both discs are in pristine condition but UnleashX and DVD2XBOX give a "Tray Empty" message. I did a Google search for these and it seems others have the same problems with these 2 games being read on a Thompson Drive. I wanted to know what other games and drives folks are having issues with. Hope to hear from you all. Thanks, Larry
  17. I dont know if this has been put up on here before, but i came across this during my quest to fix a v1.2 xbox that wont boot. I have at some point managed to bork the hard drive during this quest Any how this webpage shows how to read an eeprom from an xbox using a Pi and a pin header normally used for mounting modchips in an xbox.. I have installed the program on my pi and got everything ready, just waiting for my header wires to arrive and then im goin to give it a go. My thinking is if i can read the xeeprom i can then use xboxhdm2.3usb to rebuild the hard drive and install a softmod. Then hopefully this bastard will boot again Heres the link .... http://icode4.coffee/?p=22
  18. Trying to do my first softmod and all is going well except my xbox refuses to actually read my disk so i cant load the save game to get the process going. Anyone got any tips for me to get it to read? This should hopefully be the last time it needs to read a disk so i just need it to work once really.
  19. I have a version 1.5 that wont read burned hexen disk after jumper points have been soldered. do I need to softmod first?
  20. OXC_XBOX_EEPROM_Read_n_Writr_v2.zip
  21. I got a system in today from eBay (of course in "Perfect Condition") except when I powered it up it had a Flashing Green Ring / Won't Fully Boot or Read Disc. I opened it up and found that nice dent in the DVD drive. Swapped out the drive and it worked fine. Thanks for the assist Blake!
  22. I'm interested to know once the original Xbox is modded what can can the king of emulation play?for movies what kind of movie formats can she play? For example MP4 Avi Etc. Also would be nice to know what kind of music and picture files will work with the original Xbox for example MP3? Wave? Jpeg? Either a list or a link would be great. I got a lot of cool stuff that can go on the Xbox and we all know how FTP speeds are..lol Thanks Frank
  23. So, I took the unit apart (DVD Drive) and it looked in fairly good condition. I lightly blew it out with compressed air and cleaned the lens with alcohol (91%). The drive is a Thomson TGM600. That didn't fix the problem. Any recommended next steps? Thanks.
