About Me

  1. I bought a refurbished deck with a laser already assembled from ebay and also recapped the logic board 'correctly' with a cap kit from console5. I also replaced the dvd drive belt. I swapped out the deck assembly for the new one. I connected all of the ribbon cables and soldered the red and blue wires back. So dvd drive ejects very nicely and the cd that tested didn't get scratched or didn't stay stuck. The dvd drive emits a loud vibrating noise and I get the pop-up that says that the disc that I inserted is not an Xbox disc. Its a cd music disc that I inserted to test the dvd drive. What I suspect that I did wrong is that I applied too much lithium grease to the rails because the laser doesn't stay put in a single place anymore but it moves back and forth when I tilt the dvd drive. I also didn't pay attention to the laser position before I disassembled the dvd drive. I also don't know the correct level of the disc tray. The disc tray elevates up and down while the laser is reading a game. Its my first time repairing an Xbox dvd drive and I'm out of troubleshooting ideas. Edit: I just remembered that usually refurbished lasers have two pads bridged to protect the laser from being damaged by static. Well the two points were not bridged and there was a lot of burned flux residue too.
  2. Hi guys, I've got tons of Xbox originals over last 2 years and i always see the same problem with Samsung drives - they are not reading at all. Tweaking pot doesn't help. Laser beam is there, it is not weak. Lens is not dirty, tried to clean all of them. My guess was maybe these are capacitors on the drive board? The issues is i can't desolder them without tearing of the pads. Stupid, i know but really they are so fragile there or whatever is he reason. Plus I'm not sure on some of them in terms of specs. So, what do you think? 1. Can it be capacitors? something else? 2. If it is probably capacitors, anyone has all the ratings? Thanks!
  3. k i have a 1.6 version xbox here tested unit before trying and all was good whilst fitting an aladdin chip and doing the lpc rebuild do dar one of the pads on the mb has lifted https://circuit-board.de/forum/index.php/Attachment/72198-Aladdin-XT-installation-Guide-pdf/ using the above guide its the cable from the top right point on the header to the contact/point (this is the oine thats lifted) between r7t3 and c7t3 i think the track is damaged i have removed all wires installed elsewhere and re assembled and unit now showing FRAG is it fubared? or is there a way to fix/sort? thank you in advance
  4. my xbox was the first console i bought with my own money. a few days ago it stopped working (cant recall the error) so i took the opportunity to upgrade the hdd. i kept a backup of the eeprom and i used the xboxhdm with the usb to sata cable. worked somewhat fine, i got a "funtional" xbox with the dashboard. but i feel like im missing a bunch of things for example: fable wont run (comes back to dashboard) coin ops does the same i no longer have an option to clean the cache neither i have the option to launch the m$ dashboard (i used to) i have no idea what im suposed to do. 1.6b xbox, softmod only. im currently loading the hexen2019 in hopes that it has a "select this to INSTALL ALL THE THINGS" and be done with it.
