  1. Recently discovered that it is possible to fully disassemble GPU fan and service it properly. Fan is not using ball bearings, it simply pops off if you force it gently with both fingers equal amount of pressure on fan blades as close to the base of assembly. Loud fan is quite again.
  2. When I was looking for a extra gamepad, I came across a "duke" gamepad including a whole Xbox for 10 bucks, I couldn't resist not taking it Everything works, but inside the Xbox it looks like it has a 1.0 board. I've read things about the Foxlink PSU in 1.0 units... and this one has the Foxlink The pins on the AC connector are slightly movable and the solder is cracked, but working. After taking the picture I resoldered it. Is resoldering the only fix for it to prevent melting away some day? Second thing is the fan on the GPU heatsink which makes noise the first minute it's tuned on. The same noise PC fans make when they are worn. But with a PC fan I can remove the label to reveal the bearing and put a drop of oil in it, letting it run quietly again for a couple more years. But removing the label on this GPU fan doesn't reveal the bearing. Is this fan repairable in a different way?
  3. i've seen some bad info out there for noobs trying to mod a xbox for the first time. the 2 main ones are to null or modify your hdd key(without disclosing any of the dangers) instead of just keeping the old hdd as a backup to create another drive if needed and the 2nd one is to pry the gpu heat sink off. please don't do this, especially on a xbox that has sentimental value to u. this is a good way to ruin it. we really need to start being more careful what we tell noobs to do. i know my original xbox has a lot of sentimental value to me because it still has the game saves from where i used to go to lan parties with it back in the mid 2000's. i'd be heart broken if one of these guides caused me to ruin it. many other would probably feel the same way about theirs.
  4. the compound used is sorta like a rubber, under heat it softens. like ps2 rubber pad, but more advanced and more efficient. same for cpu.
  5. Hello folks, we all know the XGPU is sort of cousin to Geforce 3 and Ti200, Ti500. Just found a tutorial on how to overclock the Geforce 3 series, basically it is about increasing voltage on the GPU core and RAM chips, by adding resistors to so called voltage controllers. The voltage controllers on the Geforce 3 series are SC1175CSW, similar controllers are on the Xbox too. One located unde the CPU, named SC1186CSW (PII, PIII voltage controller). And another one SC1110CS (voltage controller for DDR memory) located near the GAME1/2 connector. Need help of guys who know electronics, regarding how to apply same resistor mod to the Xbox RAM voltage controller. so the voltage between RAM chip's VDD contact and GND - will increase higher than stock tension of 3.06 volts. notes: - Geforce 3 have 2 x SC1175CSW , Xbox has one SC1110CS which fits the description - Xbox 1.0 motherboard was researched for this purpose, other motherboard revisions don't have SC1110CS - there was info on the web about a prototype Xbox motherboard which had a switch to overclock the GPU - Xbox 1.0 motherboard has GPU fan, other revisions don't have - my speculation is: one of voltage controllers located on Xbox motherboard feeds the GPU, it may be the one under CPU, because there is only 1 voltage controller of that kind in other Xbox revisions, only 1.0 has 2 of them, under CPU and near GAME1/2 connector. links: overclocking Geforce 3 overclocking Geforce 3 Ti200/Ti500 SC1175CSW - Geforce 3 voltage controller SC1110CS - Xbox RAM voltage controller K4D263238F-QC50 - Xbox RAM chips
  6. Hello, I picked up a modded 1.0 Xbox and I find the amount of system noise to be more than I want to tolerate. One mod that I heard mentioned was that the gpu heat sink and fan can be replaced with a passive solution that uses a ‘IGP’ heatsink. I can’t find good details on this. Does the OGXbox community have experience with this that can be shared? If this is a viable solution, can someone point me to a tutorial or provide details?
  7. google was very unhelpful. does anyone here know?
  8. Hello, fellow OGers! That thermal compound from the factory is failing in our beloved consoles. It can lead to rising temps and possible chip failure. It's s pretty straightforward process to replace it, and I've put together a tutorial video to help you out if you haven't done it yet. Enjoy, and please share any comments you have. Thanks!
  9. Recently I got Xbox Classic (v1.0), and it has a little cooler on GPU heatsink (like every 1.0), which I would like to remove. Can I just take the fan off, and leave a heatsink without it? Has anyone tried it, and use the console that way? Also, I'll change a thermal paste with MX-4. Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
