About Me

  1. Hey all! I have a 1.0 that spools up to boot for about 2 seconds and then shuts down. Does that twice and then I can get it to stay powered with a FRAG 50/50 but never has any detectable video output. Not hard modded. I pulled the five Caps by the CPU and they all checked within limits. Clock cap is removed and there is not trace rot. Power supply works normal with other 1.0 boards. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  2. i, like many others, started having problems with my xbox after replacing the thermal paste. graphics glitching, freezing, frag'ing, and sometimes it would just go into a coma on me. it appears that the problem is that some of the solvent for cleaning the thermal paste gets underneath the gpu chip and causes a short. 1st off, i do not recommend replacing the thermal paste on these consoles but if u already have and are now having problems then here is how to fix it. get a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol with a squirt top on it(i suggest a quart bottle), hold the motherboard on it's side, and squirt the alcohol all over it. be certain that plenty is going under the gpu. next, take a hair dryer and dry the board very well. be careful not to get it too hot. a good rule of thumb is that if any part of the board is uncomfortable to lay your hand on and keep it there, then it is too hot and should be allowed to cool. next, sit the board in the xbox, hook up the psu, connect a tv and power on the system a few times to be certain that it appears to be working before full reassembly. BE CERTAIN TO REAPPLY THERMAL PASTE AND HEATSINKS BEFORE POWERING ON! i'm not certain that it will overheat the chips without the heatsinks for a quick test but it isn't worth the risk. this fixed my xbox that i was concerned i had forever killed.
  3. Is there another place I can find ports of games to put on my xbox? I've gone through here: http://www.emuxtras.net/dlsystem/ Just looking for another great site that may have some other stuff to find. Thanks!
  4. Hello where can i find xbox isos, i know vimm.net but it's it any other good sites out there.
  5. I have a v1.4 that doesn't seem to be getting power at all, zero response from power/eject so I've tried a bunch of stuff: - Replaced 3x 3300uF 6.3V, 3x 1500uF 6.3V, and 2x 3300uF 10V caps, all the big ones - Checked continuity on those 4 lines that usually get rotted, 3 were good, rebuilt 1 and confirmed continuity with the top of the board - Reflowed the 20 pin ATX header - Tested with 2 known good PSUs - Tested with 2 known good front panel PCBs I haven't seen this behavior (or lack of) before and had it not be bad caps, but if there's something to be tried short of an entire recap, I'm unaware of what that would be. Anyone have any ideas?
  6. I'm looking for something that can stress an Xbox a bit and that I can leave running for stability testing. Can anyone suggest a game with rendered scenes that loop or maybe an app that's made for this?
  7. After seeing lots of suggestions, usually for capacitors that aren't readily available, discontinued, or are marked "last chance to buy", I thought I'd try to put together some lists on Digikey of current/active caps for the Xbox. It might be good for people asking about caps, experiencing option paralysis, or even people who do this a lot and don't want to have to think about it. I would appreciate feedback, let me know if there's some better option or cheaper equivalent to something in one of these lists. Any dupes across revisions are the same model cap. Xbox v1.0-1.1 Capacitor Set Xbox v1.2-1.4 Capacitor Set Xbox v1.6 Capacitor Set Clock Cap (All revisions) Also, incase you're a prepper: v1.0-1.4 Capacitor Set, All Revisions Capacitor Set
  8. Razor here just checking in, Who's keen for Insignia!
  9. @miggawhatStarted a thread back in 2019, with issues about ethernet port not working right. I have an ethernet problem as well, but different. This is new to me, never had any network problems of this type before. I bought an ebay "as-is" untested box, luckily it booted up, cd worked, and after 20 years of life, the clock capacitor was in "like new" shape (no leakage or anything, but of course, I still removed it). It had never been opened before, and oddly there was a HDD screw floating around the HDD tray that had come loose, just as an anecdote. Anyway, I took the G & CPUs's heat-sinks out to re-thermal compound them. I plan on making this my first TSOP, getting my feet wetter, so to speak. After softmodding in my normal fashion, I attempted to FTP over the C, eeprom, and MS backups to my master backup storage drive. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting an IP showing up in the dash, even and after confirming I had all the network settings correct: FTP enabled Set to static 192.168.0.2 port 21 4 users allowed User and pw both : xbox Known good x over cable, and double checked on another box (as I describe below) I was able to copy the C and eeprom's to USB/mem card and transfer to a working 1.6 softmod. I then FTP'd, from the working 1.6, the contents of the memory card. So I can technically upgrade the HDD externally, and add the games and emulators I want. However, I'm more into system link stuff, and a non functioning ethernet port/network stuff isn't desirable. On the rear of the box, I get NO lights whatsoever. I gave it a little wiggle and jiggle, but nothing would light up and no IP address would show up on the dash. I checked and cleaned the port with swabs/qtips and iso, the swabs came out basically clean. All the pins/tabs looked to have good contact surfaces, none bent or missing, etc. I'm considering getting a solder pump finally, and trying to swap out the physical port for another one, but swapping ports depends on what advice you fine folks might provide, which I thank you for greatly!! Anyone else have an issue like this? V1.0, Unleash X (Ebay #3)
  10. I mean, played FIFA and it's like... ultra-complex campaign mode... very limited number of national teams (lots of useless clubs)... NO EDITOR (really? that's the funniest part, to build your own team!)... complex commands (some sort of mix between PES and older FIFA titles... switching player makes my mind stun...)... isn't there something really simple like older ISS games or even Virtua Striker series? Asking here instead of usual "top 10 soccer games" pages because those pages only talk about PES and FIFA. Of course, I'm not looking for excellent games... even "decent" are ok to me.
  11. chimp clones to new HDD with out problems but i get error 16 when i put in the new drive after cloning. i tried the 'fix error 16' button in chimp, it said it was good but when i put back in the new HDD i still get Error 16. The stock 10GB HDD i got with the xbox still works if i connect it. i then tired booting the xbox with the 10GB HDD then turning off the xbox and putting in the new HDD but then i got error 13. plz help i already spent like 70$$ on this shit. my xbox is soft modded i removed the clock capacitor i have a compatible HDD, 40-pin/80-wire IDE cables, a working SATA to IDE converter Thank you
  12. I’m new to this modding scene so hoping to learn a lot from the expertise on this forum, thanks. D
  13. I saw on reddit that they recommended a Taiyo yuden or Nichicon 1F 2.5V, but it seems these are now out of production.
  14. I have several boards (1.0, 1.1 & 1.4) that will not power up with a known good power supply. Capacitors all look good and there are no visible signs of damage or component failure anywhere. Are there typical failure points that I should check? Would it be worth it to replace the power caps anyway? Thanks for any help. I hate to ditch these boards or just use them for parts.

  16. I'm running into an issue where just the following 4 NTSC USA games won't load on original firmware from retail disc (get stuck at the Xbox logo + Microsoft text after putting in the disc), or from hard disk via ISO or extracted files (just go to a black screen where even IGR won't work): Chicken Little Shellshock: Nam '67 Without Warning The Suffering: Ties That Bind I'm positive that these are good discs (used for the tests I've run on original firmware) and ISOs that I've ripped / converted myself and validated against Redump hashes (for the ISO loading failures). Full details on the setup and things I've tested follow: I've got an NTSC 1.2 Xbox, upgraded to a 2TB drive, using the recommended ~937 GB F/G configuration with 64 KB clusters on those partitions, on a StarTech adapter. The drive has been locked, so I can still use stock firmware. Clock capacitor has been removed (and clock time set), and the 5 largest capacitors (3 for CPU / GPU and the two large ones on the lower left / right of the board) have been replaced. An original Xenium chip is installed on firmware 2.3.1, with banks flashed for both EvoX M8+ (modded with EvoTool to add LBA48 support), and iND 5003 (the recent modified version with re-enabled XBL and reboot fix). Using 480i composite video out. The Language is set correctly in the MS dashboard to English, which should work with these 4 games. I've got the proper files in place to allow ISO mounting, and all my games are installed via this process: Dump disc with a Kreon firmware SH-D163B drive to full ISO Validate the CRC matches the Redump CRC (so I'm sure I have a known good dump and the disc isn't the problem) Extract the files from the Redump format ISO with Xbox Image Browser 2.9 build 0350 Use Qwix to turn the extracted files back into an XISO compatible for hard drive loading Split the XISO, if over 4GB, at 4292870144 bytes into two pieces, and name them gamename.1.iso / gamename.2.iso Throw the ISO into F or G, and run the XBMC4Gamers ISO prep script to put them into a unique subfolder, as well as extract the thumbnail and game name and put them into the launcher XBE that actually mounts the disc files and plays them. This gives me 2 ways to launch my games: I can either launch the ISO from XBMC4Gamers, or I can boot into the Xenium menu with the eject button, choose to launch the stock TSOP, boot into the original dashboard, then put the original disc in and play without any mods whatsoever. I have hundreds of games working perfectly this way, but those 4 games won't boot on this Xbox, no matter what I do. If I try to launch them through the ISO loading method from XBMC4Gamers the screen just goes black, then stays black indefinitely. IGR no longer works, and I have to hard power down the Xbox. (The same thing is true if I extract the files to F:\games and try to run the default.xbe.) If I try to launch them by booting into the original firmware on TSOP, waiting for the original dashboard to load, then putting the original disc in the tray, the Xbox changes to the Xbox logo screen, with "Microsoft" below the Xbox logo (aka "I've recognized a legit game and I'm loading it"), and then just stays on that screen forever, without actually starting the game. The only thing that will break out of that is ejecting the disc, which takes me back to the dashboard, or powering off. I've tried clearing the cache drives before loading these. I've also tried deleting the TDATA and UDATA for those games (as well as backing up all of E and wiping it clean). This has me stumped, because: I know the discs are good (dumping with a Kreon matches 100% to the Redump ISO as validated by hashes, plus 3 of the 4 look factory new) I know the disc drive can read games fine, as it can load any other original disc I throw at This doesn't appear to be a copy protection thing, because it happens equally when running EvoX M8+ / iND 5003 and loading an ISO or with stock firmware and loading the original disc, and when loading the original disc, we don't even get past the point where the Xbox logo / Microsoft text beneath it leave the screen to hand control over to the game. I know the Xbox is reading the disc, because if I boot into modded, rename E:\TDATA and E:\UDATA to E:\TDATAold and E:\UDATAold, clear cache drives, then shutdown, boot into stock firmware, put the disc in, let the system hang at the Xbox / Microsoft logo, eject the disc to return to the MS dashboard, and then check the Memory tab, the only entry there (as expected) is the one entry for the game I tried to boot, with its correct picture. I can't find any reports on the restored xboxscene forums, here, or reddit claiming that those games had issues booting for anyone else (though they're niche titles, so maybe no one has tried and bothered to post they don't work?), or any sort of Wikipedia article or the like talking about the games with a section mentioning they have issues loading on certain versions of Xboxes, etc. So in lack of that, it makes me think they should work and there's something else I'm missing. Any thoughts as to why these and just these 4 games don't work, either through ISO loading, extraction to hard disk, or known good retail disk on retail firmware would be really appreciated - I'm stumped!
  17. Why do people like the hexen disk? I have a version 1.4 xbox with a Open Xenium with a Ind-5004.67 bios and a X2-5035.137 bios and that's set as the default boot bios For the test install I used a 2 tb hard drive 1st load the hexen 2020 disk and cold boot. 2nd use option 3 (TSOP Flashed,Modchiped) 3rd use Option 3.5 (Chipped) 4th option 3.5.3 (New disk NTSC) now enter a password (friggen stupid idea) now sit back and watch it install all sorts of files and folders including a folder called ''Delete Me "". Let Xbpartitioner 1.3 do it job and now I can reboot the Xbox without Hexen and it boots to unleash dash. Ok I wan't XBMC so load Hexen disk and use Install Applications then install XBMC, More files been installed and more Delete Me folder files! I also wanted XBMC4Gamers so I added that as as Application and the same Delete Me stuff. Reboot the Xbox without the Hexen disk and unleash opens now it now has a XBMC icon so press A to load XBMC and nothing it comes back to the unleash dash but it works if I run it from the apps folder and so does XBMC4Gamers. Now I really want XBMC4Gamers as the default dash so I loaded up the Hexen disk and used the option 5 Dashboard tools Then switch Switch dashboards option 5.1 and there is no XBMC4Gamers but XBMC will do for now so I set that as the default dash on E drive(that's also where I installed XBMC and XBMC4Gamers) And now reboot the Xbox without the Hexen Disk and it now locks up after the boot animation. And using the IND bios is the same it locks up at the white IND bios screen. Ok so lets load the hexen disk again and set the dash back to Unleash and reboot it now will boot to Unleash again. The Hexen disk is now out on the road some where after it was as a frisbee out the door. So now I load Slayer 2.7 and complete new large drive install and reboot FTP XBMC4Gamers to E drive and also FTP Xbpartitioner 1.3 to E drive Open file explorer to run Xbpartitioner 1.3 and Format F and G drives to 926.78 gb each FTP back to the Xbox and edit the X2config file on E drive to set xbmc4gamers on the E drive as the 1st boot dash Now reboot the Xbox and now I have XBMC4Gamers as the default dash and can set about copying me games and the like across. And this folks is why I love Hexen. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  18. Hey all, it's good to be back in the scene. When I was a kid I had an Xbox (no idea the revision), an Xecuter 2.6ce (which I still wish I could find), and absolutely no clue what I was doing. Bricked my Xbox and hadn't touched one since just recently. Hooked again, can't wait to really start modding. Just scratched the surface with my chipped 1.6, and I'm working on getting a 1.0 and another 1.6 working shortly. Thanks for hosting such a great community with a ton of knowledge!
  19. back in the early days of my working on xbox's, i used these caps https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DYJERPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to replace the thre in front of the cpu/gpu. can anyone tell me if they are good for this application or do i need to change them?
  20. Looking to buy a bunch of DVD drive belt replacements but don't want to pay top dollar. Anyone have a good source? These are the 25mm, right?
  21. i tried hot glue but it doesn't stick to rubber. i want to be able to remove the feet again if need be so super glue is out. what would be the best?
  22. Hello World Let's discuss about Linux on Xbox Original, and what is it good for? I've read people use it to browse the internet and even watch Youtube throught a special distributive of Mozilla. Can anyone confirm launching Linux ports of Windows games on XDSL, and which ones? Counter Strike port for Linux would be awesome, never tried that, but found a port of 1.4 or 1.5 on the web. Maybe anyone kept a website on Xbox, by using it as server? What I was most impressed of, is the posibility of running a cluster of Xbox-es, tried that few years ago, but the update links for that distro were all dead, hope somebody has an image of a Linux distributive with everything set up or maybe can point on how to fully install everything in 2018. Do I understand correctly. that the cluster's power is all node's powers summarized, for example as the picture shows , is 12 x 733 mhz = 8796mhz? http://www.bgfax.com/xbox/home.html https://www.anandtech.com/show/1539/8 http://www.xl-cluster.org/index.php
  23. Hi i recently softmodded an xbox of mine and got the old xecuter2 modship my dad did a while ago. I just want to know what's the big difference and what my hardmod could do that my softmod couldn't Thanks for the answer
