  1. Hi. Found my old v1.1 Xbox which I modded 20years ago with an Xecutor 2.3 Lite (see pics). Wanted to get it going again now that Insignia is running, so before even powering on, I've removed the clock cap and replaced the 5 CPU caps which were leaking. Powered on today, and it starts in microsoft dash. Hooray! Soldering successful, but no X2 bios. The 'X2 Lite Ext' board with the 3 switches on doesn't seem to work (switches are bad - checked with meter). Also the 5 black wires leading to the Ext board were frail and snapped off from the connector while testing . Luckily I caught it and labelled each so I know which wire does what. Question is, what to do? I doubt I can find another X2 Lite Ext switch board and cable. Does anyone know if any other switch bank works with my chip? I could just bridge the wires to force modchip enable and bank 1, or try to build my own new switch bank. Any suggestions if you've done this before? Thanks
  2. I'm trying to check my Philips drive for faults. Confirmed that it's the drive itself as this problem occurs across 4 other XBOX's with the same symptoms. Drive refuses to eject and stops the XBOX's from booting. I'd like to test for blown fuses first....can anyone tell me where they are on the PCB?
  3. Hi all! I am looking to buy any and all faulty Philips VAD6011/21 drives (not VAD6035/21). Please send me a message if you are in the US and have any lying around! If the price is reasonable, I will buy as many as you have
  4. Hi all, I recently came across a 1.4 xbox that would not power on, and after replacing the power supply with one from a working 1.4 console it came to life. i checked the fuse for continuity and it was blown, so i replaced it and now this piece blew up (see picture) and instantly blew the fuse again. i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a replacement of the piece that exploded, cheers.
  5. when i order the ebay cheap converters from china i order 5 or 6 at a time knowing that 1 or 2 will fail, as i never throw anything away ive got about a dozen dead ones now, i was thinking maybe it could be the cheap caps and whether it was worth trying to change caps on them to see any can be resurrected, a couple of them did work for a short time before dying so worth a shot?
  6. Hi, thought I'd share a quick story about picking up a faulty xbox I got it to work easily by replacing the 5 x 1500uf capacitors (common fix) I was surprised to find a different modchip than the good old aladdin. It is an Apple-X VI which is supposed to have 2 x 512kb banks according to https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17-modchips-generation-3b-from-xbox-scenecom/ However I could not flash a bios any bigger than 256kb on each of the bank. Not a biggie as the onboard tsop can support 1mb. Booting from the onboard tsop by pressing the eject button and from the modchip by pressing the power button.
  7. Hi guys, I recently attempted an Aladdin XT plus modchip install on my xbox V1.0. Other then trying to suck out the solder from the LPC ports, the process was relatively smooth. When I first went to boot the box, the Aladdin instantly smoked hard so I it off. At the moment I'm trying to figure out whether it was my install error or a faulty chip. When I remove the chip and boot the xbox, it boots fine and normal. As soon as I add the chip back on, which doesn't smoke anymore, the xbox FRAGS. I tested the LPC pins and didnt get any continuity between ones I shouldnt have. I then tested to make sure the 5 and 3,3 voltages were still good and they were. I was gonna test each individual pin and see if maybe Im seeing 5V/3.3V where I shouldnt, but other then that I'm not sure if it was the install, but instead just a faulty chip. I bought it from Modchipcentral and I've gotten good stuff from them before. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
  8. I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks
