  1. Was doing a clear out and find an board under my desk that still boots but I'm missing the original HDD. I tried all the HDD's I got but they all gave error code 6 which I understands the board was unable to unlock the HDD. I've Aladding XT and Open xenium chips, can I install either to get around the HDD and flash the tsop or its never gonna happen without the orignal HDD?
  2. Hi - having gotten the xbox original bug recently I have acquired a few original xbox consoles from friends and colleagues. I have a 1.0 that has a fan on the GPU so it's pretty noisey. I have a 1.6 and that can't be Tspoped and I don't have the skills required to add a chip. Today, a colleague gave me an xbox 1.1 - I opened it and checked to see if there was a fan on the GPU and there isn't - which is good in terms of noise. This also means that I can TSOP the 1.1. I have 3 or 4 more lying around in my attic that I collected over the years at car boot sales (mainly to get the games that came with them in bundle packs) - is there a particular model that I should look out for like the 1.1 seems to have the best of everything for me right now or am I wrong? Which version do you think is the best and why? Thanks in advance.
  3. Just picked up a few xboxes and some extras. Among the extras was an Xbit 1..5 chip. Id like to test it and find out if it works. But im not finding any info on how to install it anywhere. Does anyone have any info on the chip and maybe an install/Flashing guide? would be much appreciated, as this will be my First chip install!!
  4. Pulled my og xbox out of storage, used it for a few weeks and then packed up and moved. Now when I plug it in and turn it on, I get the Christmas lights. Would like to replace the motherboard with a 1.2 - 1.5 model so I can use the same power supply I already have. I have an openxenium coming so don't need any of the drives. Thanks.
  5. I know people get really tired of hearing this debate, but I'd like to make my position as clear as possible once and for all. First and foremost: The reason the LPC exists on the Xbox motherboard is because the TSOP is soldered to the board blank, and programmed via the lpc port later in the manufacturing process. When the TSOP is blank, the xbox then looks to the LPC for a bios image to boot. This is because a pre-programmed rom is more expensive than a blank eeprom (TSOP in this case). It also allowed Microsoft to more easily update the bios image in new Xboxes for whatever reason. So we know that they would have to retool the LPC programming device if they disconnected some LPC points. This new tool would need to be incredibly fine because the point it needs to make contact with is no longer a nice big pad. Since nobody can find a 1.5, this retooling would have been for just a handful of motherboards. So they would have gone through this expense of retooling for such a tiny amount of boards it wouldn't have made any sense. Next, what exactly did the alleged 1.5 board prevent? It ONLY would slow down mod chip installation. I say slow down because any knucklehead with a DMM could figure out how to get it working again. It does absolutely nothing to stop soft modding or TSOP flashing. Why would Microsoft go to such an expense to stop only one method of modding the Xbox? I don't doubt that people have found LPC points that show no continuity. This could be because of the very programmer I mentioned at the beginning of this post. It could be due to trace rot. It could be due to operator error in measuring the components. Whatever the reason for a person measuring this situation, I don't believe it was a particular version of motherboards that Microsoft intended to put out. We saw with the 1.6, where it DID come with a pre-programmed rom (so no TSOP) on the board that they could finally disconnect the LPC. That's why we have to rebuild it there. It is perfectly consistent. It stops TSOP mods. It stops modchips for noobs. It required a new bios that supported the new video encoder. I think they believed they could use updates on game disks and Xbox Live to patch the softmods. So they thought they had all the bases covered with 1.6. I got my information from the Xbox-Linux Project. They published an article on Xbox Security which I preserved on this site. "Now other people found out that, if the flash chip is completely missing, the Xbox wants to read from a (non-existant) ROM chip connected to the (serial) LPC bus. This is of course because of the manufac- turing process: As it has been explained before, the flash chip gets programmed in-system, the first time they are turned on, using an external LPC ROM chip. Modchip makers soon developed chips that only needed 9 wires and connected to the LPC bus. It was enough to ground the data line D0 to make the Xbox think that flash memory is empty. Lots of these “cheapermods” appeared, as they only consisted of a single serial flash memory chip. They could be installed within minutes, especially after some companies started shipping chips that used pogo pins, so that no soldering was required. Some groups wrote applications like boot menus that made it possible to copy games to hard disk and run them from there. Patched Xbox kernels ap- peared that supported bigger hard disks. Making the Xbox run copies from DVD-R or hard disk as well as homebrew applications written with the official Xbox SDK was now easy." https://www.ogxbox.com/archive/xboxsecurity.html It's under the "Modchips" heading.
  6. EDIT BY ADMIN: It's not a 1.5. No 1.5 has ever been found because it was a hoax and could not actually exist. Well... Yesterday i got the old XBOX Crystal ( i spammed already in a other topc) and i was thought it's an v1.4 but it isn't (damit). It's an v1.5 Crystal which should be not realy exsist or at least it's a rar one? Anyway, it's missing at least 1 point on the LPC port. Since i never had a 1.5 I'm not realy sure if my plan, adding a Xenium and a Ram upgrade (the pads are still there on the 1.5 so i assume it would work?), will work on those. Do i need some sort of LPC fix like in the 1.6? And out of curiosity, would a TOSOP flash be possible with the 1.5? My final question, are the cases still the same like the 1.3/1.4 or are they already different like the 1.6? Below are some quick and dirty made pics. If someone whan't some in a better quality, let me know from what and i make some better pics for you.
  7. So I bought this xbox from my local pawn shop when i saw it come in for 45 bucks. I know there are better deals out there but this one looked clean and the stickers no the bottom where intact. Knowing the system hadn't been opened the first thing i did when I got home other than test the system (and relive halo 2 for a little while) was pull the case off to prep for the clock capacitor removal. For giggles and farts when I saw the focus chip above the cpu heatsink i tested the resistance on the ground port from the LPC bus and found what i'd like to think is a good condition 1.5v motherboard. Now I am really just looking for someone here with a little more experience to tell me if i found the legendary fable board or if I botched the test somehow. Also if it is real hat are the value of these? Thanks.
  8. The dreaded lights have finally arrived. I recieved my xbox second hand and it was already modded. I'm sure there's guide to this somewhere but I haven't seen it. Any ideas to the common causes and checks I should run? I've already started to take it apart and can't see anything terribly wrong, but I'm no expert...
  9. xbox boots 3 times no image or audio i found this xbox the way it is i think its missing a cable to activate the chip ! maybe someone knows where i can buy the cable if not its up for sale shipping outside europe is expensive has 120gb hdd
  10. Hello Folks, I try to intsall a XBIT 1.5 Chip in a 1.6b console. I was having a pretty bad time, since most of the information is gone due to forums and websites are not available in 2018 anymore... But thanks to the wayback machine, I managed to get some information about the installation process of the chip. Well, it looks like that the chip is/was only compatible to v1.0 to 1.5 and the 1.6 revision was not out when this chip was released (I've read somewhere, that there is a 1.6 adaptor board). Anyway, thanks to google, I found out that it should be possible to use that chip in a 1.6 console, but I'm unsure if they used the 1.6 adaptor. After rebuilding the LPC port, I installed the chip as usual (Double checked the pinouts from thechip and the LPC port), left d0 unconnected since I've read, that this is not necessary on 1.6 consoles and performed a LFRAME cut. I flashed evolution-x m8 1.6b bios to the chip with a virutal installation of windows xp (the softwate really sucks and won't work on WIN10...) Well, all I get is the christmas light (Console turning on and off 3 times and flashes red/green) without any video signal. If I bridge the LFRAME signal with tweezeers, the console boots as usual. This either means, that either the connection between the console and the chip is wrong or the chip is broken and I don't know how to find that out. I tried multiple thing, like reconnectnig the LFRAME, soldering in D0, used the 1.5 pinout for soldering, used the 1.6 soldering (but without the adaptor). At the time, I think the chip is broken, because flashing works, but validating the files gives me an error. As said before, I read on a german forum, that you can actually use any not 1.6 compatible chip with a 1.6 console by cutting the LFRAME and not connecting the d0 point. Won't work for me Has anyone some tips, help, suggestion for me? Thanks in advanve!
