About Me

  1. So peeps, The metal RF sheilding in your xbox's, do you keep yours, throw it, paint it or something else?? I used to throw mine away if they were rusty but just recently I have painted a couple and I am pleasantly surprised with the results. Here one where I used a Canary Yellow... Will be adding a yellow ring of light to this one and swapping out the power leds for yellow too. This box currently has red leds in the control ports too. Might change those to yellow too....
  2. I received a broken 2001 1.0 Xbox for free. I removed the clock capacitor, rerouted some trace rot. After that, it seemed to be working great besides terrible disc reading (even after a pot tweak). I ignored the often suggested thermal paste replacement thinking "don't fix what ain't broke" and bought a new laser, after all, I got the thing for free. It's working great as far as I can tell. BUT the lingering thought of thermal paste wormed it's way into my brain, after all, most people seem to suggest it (sometimes to do it just cuz). The combination of so many people suggesting it, and some of the counter-arguments to it on this forum made me pretty anxious about the whole ordeal. Especially after investing money into this. SO when does one know when, or if they should change the paste? I basically have the oldest OG Xbox possible, and it seems to work fine. I noticed the fan area in the back can get warmish when reading discs - but I've never had an xbox, and this could be normal. I haven't modded it, so I don't know its temps. Should I be worried? or bothered? Should I mod the console just to see the temps, just to be sure? Is the Xbox good enough at knowing when it has overheated to reliably leave it alone until theres a tangible issue? TLDR; I'm overly paranoid about my newly acquired 1.0 xbox, and don't know how necessary it is, or when I should replace the thermal paste. Thanks for any replies! It's much appreciated.
  3. So I modded my old XBOX with the SID 5.11 (I think) and then used FTP to add more old emulator images to make it fun for my grandkids but then the oldest grandkid did "something" clever (I have no idea what wasn't there) and the machine reverted to it's original boot state (unmodded) and I am wanting to get it back to modded again. Any ideas or suggestions on how to do this and I would very much appreciate if someone could point me to instructions on how to build the old SID boot USB that goes with the Mechassault DVD - still got my custom USB cable and DVD but need to build a new SID USB because no idea where the old one went. You'd be making seven grandkids and one grandpa very very happy (Christmas morning level happy) Thank you in advance for any info you can offer me!
  4. Hello, sorry for nagging you, but I am really don't know much about the og xbox modding stuff... My problem is, I have 3 og xbox, two of them working great, and 1 can't play two important games, everything else working great. Forza motorsport, and Counter-strike. When I launch them it gives me a black screen on my main xbox, in CS I can hear the background music as well. On my other 2 xboxes they can run these games without a problem. The only differences I can see with my newbie eyes are the "faulty" xbox has XMBC dashboard, while the others have that regular one, unleashx or evox (I can't really tell the differences), but would be the problem only this? I know the 2 working one is hardware modded, at least this is what I requested when I sent it to the service, the other, well, I don't remember seeing a chip inside, maybe tsoped, or softmodded. Oh and the xbox that doesnt run the games is a 1.0 xbox I guess, I mean it has a fan on the gpu, only the 1.0 had it, right? And among the working ones one is 1.6, the other I dont know. So that is all the hints I can give to you, but I am all ears what should I look for to post here, to be able to solve the mysteri. Oh, and I would like to mention a couple things I read about this black screen, one is a problem solve for others, but not for me: "Load up MSdash and switch language to any other. Then switch off and on again and go back to ms dash and select original language. Then restart with Forza. Worked for me first time with HDD and DVD backups" --> I could not step into the original MSdash, tried it switching inside XMBC, didn't work. An other post that I can't find now was about EEPROM and that I should disable something called "xbox persistent softmod", but I can't find any option like that to set... Thanks!
  5. Recently discovered that it is possible to fully disassemble GPU fan and service it properly. Fan is not using ball bearings, it simply pops off if you force it gently with both fingers equal amount of pressure on fan blades as close to the base of assembly. Loud fan is quite again.
  6. Crystal XBOX v1.6. Xecuter3 chip, Faceplate, LCD. Xtender kit. (Space for 3 HDDs). Crystal JoyTech 6" XBOX TFT colour screen. (Not ever managed to find another like it).

  8. Someone Please Help Me Use This Tool I've Downloaded Several Others Of This Style But I Don't Know How To Use 20220904_112242.mp4
  9. Just thought I would start this thread as a kinda fun thing. Given most of us have modded Xboxes, got me wondering what people are doing thats technically not modding, or using it in a way the thing supposed to be. To this end I bring you The OGXbox door stop This is a limited edition, they only made one in clear as far as I know. Seriously when we have the doors and windows open in the house in the summer the near constant breeze always finds the doors and slams them shut. Doorstops are not great in our house as between pets and children they just disappear. So what better than a heavy old OGXbox to stop the door open. Yes in the UK we have so many Clear boxes we are tripping over them.
  10. Hello, As any new member should do, I introduce myself. I am a 45 year old Frenchman who discovered the xbox when it was officially released in 2001. At that time I write hardware tutorials on its modifications for certain French sites which have sadly gone now. It was the good time of xbox scene and xbins. I left the Xbox world in 2010 following a difficult personal situation. It was in 2021 that I decided to get back into it. the French scene being almost dead the desire to revive it a little came to me by recreating a series of videos and tutorials in French. While searching on the net I went to this forum and reading this one I was very pleasantly surprised. I very quickly understood that I was on a forum of enthusiasts with very great technical skills. So I decided to join you. Thank you all for reviving the passion I had for modifying this superb console. P.s: Sorry if there are any mistakes, I use google trad. I understand English quite well but I find it difficult to write in this language.
  11. I have downloaded all the DLC I could find for games( crimson skies, mechassault etc) I am wondering if it is possible to install this dlc with iso images of these games or do they have to be the HDD ready version of the game.

  13. Hi can you bypass the DVD, I keep getting error 12. I have a DVD which is causing system to not boot. I swapped a DVD with my only working one and I was able to softmod. Can i use the faulty drive for the check.
  14. I'm thinking the Ind Bios 5003-5004 as they also have support for 128mb ram
  15. So i have a 1.6 or 1.6b xbox and i ordered a mod chip to try modding it. i see every time someone mods an xbox that have this board that they use with it. I don't have that board and want to ask if its possible to mod it without it.
  16. I'm thinking of cleaning the inside of my xbox but i wonder if it is save to take the sink off and if yes do i just rip it off bby force or do i need something that shoots direct heat onto it in order to get it off.
  17. hi all new here and new to thee xbox modding, i have a tosp modded og xbox i wont to check the heath of my drive as ive noiced sum saves are not loading i have a 500GB segate sata drive in it i wont to make sure the drive is ok and it's not just a curuped file ?
  18. Just completed softmodding an Xbox I picked up, 500gb Sata drive installed and tomorrow hopefully Tsoping it. It's been my favourite console since release and at 46 I should probably be doing other things than farting about modding a console but......here we are. So, Hello (UK)
  19. Hey guys and lady's, the titel mostly say it already. I would be interested in which tools you use for your xbox and which tools you think should be on an installer. And also interesting is what you would like to have on an installer as well like emulators (and ofc which), dasdboards (Old, new ect.) or which options you think would be nice to have on that disc. Reason is, Dave an I had a little chat about the installer and some little issues with it and like I wrote in the topic (of the installer), I plan to re-design it a bit, if you will so. (Because Dave is right here and there so, yeah....) Thats why I would like to get some imput of you guys. PM's are also welcome, in case you're shy. So hit me with your suggestions ect.. EDIT. And no softmodding. Rocky does a awesome job with his softmodding tool so there would be no need to put something like that on an other installer.
  20. So, I'd like to be able to retain the original Xbox experience as faithfully as possible, but I also want to acquire some of the otherwise-unobtainable DLC for games like Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden. Theoretically, would I be able to install a software mod, add the DLC for those games, and then uninstall it? For the record, I do have the actual discs for all of the games I want to play.
  21. what would you say is the best 2TB drive for OG Xbox? the one ive just put in my modded xbox sum time gets stuck on black screen other times takes a bit long to load dash
  22. I had one softmodded xbox for years that started activing up. The dvd drive went bad last year and 2 of my emulators snesx and the other snes one I have that forget the name to right now wouldn't load so I thought the HD was going bad. A 750GB IDE Seagate. But to my luck a new dvd drive and a new emu fixed my issue so I backed up all my data immediatly and then dropped the external and did it all again a few days later. Anyway The 1.6 xbox for the dvd drive I bought had bad caps. So I replaced them and then the Power supply died on me (Ask me no questions about poof puff bad puff of smoke adventures and bye bye IC chip and I'll tell you no lies) . Anyway then I bought another one for parts to fix that and then went down this road. Addicted to buying xboxs on offer up. Somehow now I have 6 xboxs. But this last one I got was $10 and the HD and DVD worked. Then I found my first hard mod chip inside Smart xxv3 no lcd installed but an IR . All the bios file were dead except the original, But I know nothing about a hard mod so its a whole new adventure. Glad to be here with all of you.
  23. Hello i have a xbox with a almost dead hard drive and a dvd drive that works barely. The previous owner performed a tsop very long ago and that's why i believe that i can boot to hexen without the hard drive, also i saw some solder residue on the pads to unlock the bios protection. (Cleaned the old solder and bridged the points again) I have a 1.4 with a Windbond and focus chip, the main problem that i have is that i can't move the options in the Gentoox because my only working controller seems to be a fake controller or at least the original pcb was replaced with a generic one, someone told me on the Xbox-hq forums that i can just drop the bios file on C:/Bios . Can i boot HEXEN and ftp the bios file from there? Also what bios do you recommend? I can't decide beetween evo m8 or iND-BiOS.5004.67 Thanks for your time.
  24. I`m trying to add a ZX81 emulator to emustation (xzx81b2) added zx81 folder to emulator and roms. added emulator and roms Emustation scans them makes a playlist ect.. but doesnt appear on the carousel?? Is there any way to add your own systems to emustation?
  25. Just wondering... as title says, what is the procedure you use and/or prefer to transfer your ISO games to HDD? I see "Qwix" does this, but I also read something about "C-Xbox". Both seem to do basically the same things more or less. What's your experience about this matter? Do you know any other software for this purpose? My OSs are mostly linux based, I have no windows machines, so if something for linux exists I'm happy to hear. However, I can use windows virtual machines. Thank you, have a good day. Sceriffo
