About Me

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v62zNt891bM&t=177s This is 10 years old. Wanting to get back in to it.
  2. Methods of Identification There is no single method of identifying your Xbox revision with 100% accuracy, but by using three well-tested methods together, you will be able to determine the version of your Xbox with certainty. The methods are as follows. It is best to perform all of these tests because Microsoft doesn't print the revision number on the Xbox (that would make it too easy for modders!). The goal of revision identification is ultimately to determine which type of mod chip you can use, so after you have determined the revision by a single test, it's a pretty safe bet that you have your revision. But just to be cautious, I recommend performing other checks of the revision to be certain. Manufacturing Date The manufacturing date of an Xbox is just a "suggestion" for the revision. The manufacturing date is printed on the serial number label on the bottom of the Xbox. You can see this label through a hole in the retail box (used for scanning the serial number at the cash register), so you can try to identify the revision without even removing an Xbox from the box (although a used Xbox is probably lacking a retail box in the first place). The serial number/bar code label on the bottom of the Xbox includes a "MFG. DATE" value in the format YYYY-MM-DD, representing year, month, and day. Table 3.1 will help you to identify your Xbox revision using the manufacturing date (although assembly line and factory appear to be more relevant factors). Table 3.1 Revision by Manufacturing Date Date Range Revision Location 01/2001–10/2002 1.0 Hungary 11/2002–04/2003 1.1 Hungary, Mexico 05/2003–03/2004 1.2–1.5 China 04/2004–? 1.6 China, Taiwan Hardware Serial Number If you are browsing the used Xboxes at your local video game store in the hope that you can buy an older Xbox that will work with your solderless mod chip of choice, you will need to use the serial number version test. But what happens if the manufacturing label has been removed? This is a fairly common occurrence that might have something to do with Xbox owners not wanting to change their Xbox Live accounts (which makes one wonder why they sold the Xbox in the first place). Here is how you can decode the hardware serial number if it is available: LNNNNNN YWWFF where L is the number of the production line within the factory. NNNNNN is the number of the Xbox produced during the workweek. Y is the last digit of the production year. WW is the number of the week of the production year. FF is the code of the factory where the Xbox was manufactured, according to Table 3.2. Table 3.2 Factory Codes Factory Location Revision 02 Mexico 1.0 or 1.1 03 Hungary 1.0 05 China 1.2 (or later) 06 Taiwan 1.2 (or later) Because the factory code method is not very reliable (because there may be some codes missing from this list), let's try another method of identifying your Xbox to narrow things down a bit. See Table 3.3 for a serial number check that is accurate but not very specific. If your code is not shown, I would recommend using the closest code to yours, leaning toward the previous one if there is a value above and below your code. Table 3.3 Serial Number Check Serial Number Revision LNNNNNN 20WFF 1.0 LNNNNNN 21WFF 1.0 LNNNNNN 23WFF 1.0, 1.1 LNNNNNN 24WFF 1.1 LNNNNNN 25WFF 1.1 LNNNNNN 30WFF 1.2 LNNNNNN 31WFF 1.3 LNNNNNN 32WFF 1.3 LNNNNNN 33WFF 1.4, 1.5 LNNNNNN 42WFF 1.6 Video Chip Verification If you have used the preceding two checks to narrow down what you think your Xbox revision is, the next two steps will really give you a concrete answer to the question. Assuming you have already opened your Xbox per Chapter 2, "Disassembling Your Xbox," you should look for the video chip. It is located on the motherboard, directly below the video output port on the back of the Xbox (see Figure 3.8). This is another excellent verification of the revision, as Table 3.4 illustrates, and may be considered foolproof. Table 3.4 Video Chip Identification Video Chip Revision Conexant 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 Focus 1.4, 1.5 Xcalibur 1.6 Figure 3.8 (at the botton of the post) The location of the video chip on the Xbox motherboard. Xbox BIOS Version Number You can use one final check to verify the Xbox revision that you own (or are considering buying): Look at the BIOS kernel version and dashboard version numbers. To view these numbers, boot the Xbox in dashboard mode (by powering up without a disc in the DVD-ROM drive). Go to Settings and then System Info. A disclaimer will scroll down and will eventually show you two version numbers: a K: value for the kernel and a value for the dashboard. You can perform an unscientific check of the revision using Table 3.5. If you are at a video store, this may be your only way of double-checking the revision. Note that revision 1.0 of the Xbox did not provide these numbers, so if you can't find them, it is definitely a 1.0. Nevertheless, I will include the 1.0 kernel version in Table 3.5. Some kernel versions may not be shown in this list; if yours is not shown, you can base it on the nearest version to yours. Along with the other noninvasive tests, this should give you a clear idea about the revision for a particular Xbox. Table 3.5 BIOS Kernel Versions Xbox Revision Kernel Version 1.0 3944,4034,4036,4627 1.1 4817,4972 1.2–1.5 5101,5713 1.6 5838 ----- This article was taken from the book "The Black Art of XBOX Mods".
  3. Im try to soft mod old xbox v1.6
  4. My Xbox always gets stuck when the Microsoft logo pops up below the big Xbox logo in the center of the screen. How could I boot into the dashboard? I softmodded it in 2012 and could've easily messed up somewhere. Games and unofficial DVDs work just fine, luckily. Thanks in advance
  5. iso xbox motherboards
  6. I thought it might be nice to have a thread so you everyone can show off their custom xbox's and list their mods for others to admire. I'll start with a few of mine: The white slim one had an LCD-MOD and LCD-CON to allow the lcd plus an led fader deluxe from sickmodz, custom made jewel with led ring and internal dvd dongle The red/black one was my first modded xbox, pretty basic tsop box The blue one was a media streamer with internal wifi dongle, internal wireless controller dongle an X3 and X3 lcd and rgb leds The other one is my xbox mini with internal wifi, laptop hard drive, pico psu and internal dvd dongle mod plus 128mb ram and 1ghz cpu motherboard from trusty The last one is my current X3 box with X3 lcd and pro switch, internally it has a 2tb drive Feel free to post yours
  7. I am just curious what one of these is worth. I currently do not own one and just want to know what it is valued at. Thanks in advance. https://imgur.com/PXCsIOa
  8. Hello everybody, I've been reading the forums for a few months, and I have to request something that is very dearly to me. It comes after the small intro. I have a previously modded Xbox OG, but I failed I reckon and it only boots the official bios now. I want to thank my dad for showing what gaming was back in 1994, and purchasing me a Dreamcast in 1999 and the Xbox in 2002...Nostalgia Highway to Memories Camp... So : The Year is 2020, and now I want to have a definitive ultimate version/edition of my Xbox that've kept for almost two decades. I've seen CPU, RAM, DVD reader and belt, capacitors, IDE/SATA cables replacements or upgrades, the HDMI mod and the GPU overclock. This all made me have fantaisies, I am too little knowledgeable about the electronics modding and skills. Basically I am searching for someone that can mod my Xbox and upgrade the specs. I am living in the area next to the Border between Switzerland and southern Germany. I don't know what are the exact component bust my requirements is to be able to at least play games with patched .xbe for the DLCs(that I purchased back then, looking at PGR2 and SWBF2)(I still have all physical games with me) and 720p patches as well as some N64, PS1 and Dreamcast emulators with HDMI output (I have the Scart Advanced Pack & HD AV Pack imported from US). I have two Xboxes. One is a v1.1, the other 1.6. Both have a 500Gb HDD. Everything can be cleared and wiped. Softmod must be anyway. The purpose for my Xbox is to be the Leisure Room console with couch/cabinet setup. It hasn't a commercial purpose. A typical scenario is : I want to show my friends old gems and just play from time to time with my brother who shared the experiences with me (I am the elder brother). So it has a purely gaming use of OG Xbox games and Retroarch emulator. As well as maintaining tools for archiving and updating I am confused, it's true, about modchips having only used softmods. A Modchip is a hardmod right ? Which Modchip is the most developer or last updated? I am thinking about the Xecuter 3 and X-Chip ones after looking through the 4th Gen comparison chart in the forum here. I always wondered why people would use many launchers and different OS, with different features like remote media or other networking services? I don't want to have too much things. It must be pretty straight forward for gaming : clear, quick and clean. I hope N64 Freak (even when he/you said a month ago you're not actively offering them for long anymore), Neighbor or some one knowledgeable reads this Thank you for reading, and I'm glad to have happy times in the forums !
  9. My OG xbox wont turn on. Not a single bulging or leaky cap. I was going to replace all the caps but I noticed this and I dont know what it is, how to tell if its bad or how to order a new one. It looks kinda burned on the top but it just appears to be the rubber and not the part itself. is there a way to check it with a multi meter. The part I am asking about is the one in the first picture
  10. So this is my struggle, I bought a japanese Sega Saturn model 2 more than a year ago. The power switch on it came completely destroyed. No refunds for me, because it wasn't the seller fault, etc. After 1 year of procrastinating, I tried to fix my Saturn. And believe it or not, I found the part I was looking for to fix the power switch!! I could not believe it, because I live in Chile, near the south pole, and an old tech geezer had the part I was looking for! I was so happy! I fixed it, so I thought, but I came down with the reality that now the PSU was completely dead. Aesthetically the PSU is perfect!! Nothing blown, nothing cracked, and nothing corroded. I already tried to fix it with the help of a great guy on Reddit, but to no avail. So here it is my idea, could anyone in this wonderful community spare with me a Saturn PSU? A PAL 220v PSU hopefully? I have in my possesion three 220v OG Xbox PSU's and one 110V American OG Xbox PSU. I could give any of those PSU's in return for a PAL Sega Saturn PSU, my PSU's are perfect and all working great! My best regards to everyone! You have always been great to me. Hector Hidalgo.
  11. just did my first ever hard mod and excited to see the community still going!
  12. Doing 128mb RAM upgrades for $50,, pm me if interested
  13. Had some fun modding an old Xbox this winter. Forgot how much fun they are.
  14. Hi, my precious modded Xbox is a UK device and I have been working on the basis that the PSU is 220v only and will need to be replaced with a 110v supply. Can anyone confirm that this is the case - if it can handle multi voltage then that would be a great surprise. Obviously if I need to replace the PSU thats fine - would anyone have any tips / pitfalls I need to be aware of?? Cheers
  15. I know this group has a lot of new HDMI solutions recently, and has focused on the wii2hdmi mods. ( and I know there are more options coming in the near future) Here's a new option for you....I've recently finalized a completely new design (it's been in the works since christmas, but I'm pleased to announce that it is now completely functional) -supports component to HDMI conversion at all supported xbox video resolutions -Wolfson Audio IC to convert S/PDIF signal for the HDMI transmitter -Individually shielded video signals -Internal install will be an option There are two basic ways to take advantage of the digital audio 1)Direct decoding when passed through an HDMI receiver 2)Optical pass through from your TV to you receiver 3) it can also pass the stereo audio to play directly on your TV Sales are probably about a month out still, as I will be sending units out to a few trusted testers and get testing done with some of those problematic xbox systems that are around. https://imgur.com/a/QXP6lcM https://www.chimericsystems.com/product/hdmi-video-adapter
  16. I'm kinda new to this forum and was wondering if someone has managed to mod a cable to incorporate both HDMI and Optical SPDIF? I own a softmodded Xbox but would like to start improving it bit by bit, and what's first on my list is having both HDMI and Optical Audio (Coaxial would work too)
  17. Hi, it's me again with another weird problem So, my friend gave me another Xbox with the following issue. When I plug in the power cable into the Xbox, the fan speed jump for about 4x highest than the normal (why it is turn on???). When I power up the Xbox, that is goes to normal speed. If I turn it off, than the speed jump to high speed again... There is no any corrosion and the capacitors in good condition... The Xbox is in original state. There is no modchip or softmod or TSOP flash. Thanks for your help!
  18. Hi Mates, I met the following issue, I try to explain everything... I'm totally lost in space, so I hope, you have some idea what happening... So, first, what you have to know: - I've got an xbox classic v1.6 without video and sound output. - When opened it, I found a MuppetX modchip in it. My friend inform me, he try to flash this modchip, but 1MB always gave an error message "mismatch bios size", so he flashed it with 256KB bios. That was the mistake of him, so the modchip never works again... (The LPC Chip is 49LF020A, like in Aladdin) - I flashed it with USB Programmer with many types of bios.bin, tried 256, 512, 1024 evom8+ for v1.6, I tried everything to use it again... But the only working solution was to flash it with 4*256kb = 1MB XBlast OS bios. But when I use XBlast NET bios flasher (cause I can't use any other way, just USB programmer), the flashed bios never works. - I checked all capacitors and all of them is in good conditon... I checked traces and all of them in good condition. - When I push (more than 5 sec) the power button, the xbox started and loaded the XBlast OS. Without modchip (power up with eject or just push power button) there is no video or sound output. If I change the Bank (I do not know is it bank0 or bank1), the Xbox turn off and turn on again... My questions: - Is there anyone who has an original dump of a MuppetX bios? - Which is the Bank0 and Bank1 on MuppetX? - Which BIOS size the correct for that? (As I said, I try 1MB first and all other sizes, but won't work...) - Why Xbox doesn't give video and sound output without modchip? Is it maybe an EEPROM error?... Thank you in advance! BR, Zsolt ps: I red this topic: but do not help
  19. Hi all! I think I'm in the right place. First bought this awesome console back in May 2002 as a gift to myself for finishing college (4 years late but I finished!) Became a big video game fan on and off ever since. Having this in 02 made me buy a PS2 as a birthday gift that summer. I'm a Sony and MS game console guy. Just recently picked up my OG Xbox from ebay and now I watched some videos to take it apart. I got a 1.6 and wanted to check how its guts look. I want to post pics to get opinions or a diagnosis from you experst if I should go any further with taking it apart. It's playing fine and hooked up to my 1080p Vizio via HDMI. Hope to talk to some of you and get some direction where to post my pics. Thanks!

    XBox Clean Up

I had some time inbetwen jobs and thought I would have a go at one of my cheap pickup's. I got 3 for $20 from the local recycle center with the real reason for buying them was 2 of them had Duo X2 mod chips. But anyway can you have too many XBOX"S ? I think not. As you can see it's in poor condition. So after opening it up. And removal of the PCB and Faraday cage. Looks like it's been swimming or at least stored out side. Even the DVD drive got stripped the lazer pickup was covered in a brown film that took several goes to clean off add a new load belt with some lube on the moving part's it's now as good as new. I am suprised the fan could spin. I washed the mother board and power supply in a ultrasonic bath then a scrub with isoprenol alcohol and a brush then I hot air dryed them. And the cases when't in the dish washer on a heavy duty cycle wash. The faraday cage got washed sanded and then a coat of black paint Now a reasemble with new heat sink compound It's up and running now lets fit one of N64's HDMI kits. For the time been the DuoX2 chip is staying but I will flash the TSOP in the near future as well as thinking a RAM upgrade is in order. It's back together for now with a 500gig hard disk. And yes it is the same XBOX all up about 2 1/2 hours work not including the dish washer taking 1.5 hours. I still have another one just as bad plus at least 6 more that are in better condition for when I get time. Cheers all SS Dave The 500gig hard drive has gone and now a 1tb drive in it's place.
  23. Just a simple dark theme take on Rocky5's XST theme, since it was my favorite theme aside from the fact that it burned my retinas at night. Obviously huge props to R5 since this is his theme, just with dark colors and tweaked panels to suit my console (you may have to go in and change them if they're not working/to your liking, obviously). Rocky5 XST but wait, now dark
  24. I'm after a little help with this. Do you folks have a GOOD link to a Video on exactly how to install a 2TB drive reliably? I'm struggling to figure out the best reliable method on how to do this... Setting up partitions, with what apps etc.. I installed a 500GB IDE in my xbox but it's been nothing but trouble. so I obviously didnt do it the correct way Any help, advice, links or even better for the forum, a post with details, application downloads and images for a walk through. Thanks very much in advance!!
