About Me

  1. Hello. I am doing an expression of interest post here, have any of you done a polymod recap to a Original Xbox motherboard? I have a 1.0 and a 1.1 im looking to recap before I can put them up for sale (I do this with all my Xbox consoles once I receive them to ensure that they go for another 20+ years or however long) and noticed that the 1.0 and 1.1 units are 1500uf 6.3v for each four capacitors near the CPU and GPU, I have seen on AliExpress that they do indeed have 1500uf 6.3v polymer capacitors available. Would it be worthwhile to recap them with solid capacitors? the capacitors I am looking at are low ESR which is recommended for Xbox recapping, and if anyone here has done so please share your information and pictures of the motherboard after polymodding if possible
  2. I have a broken debug kit Xbox that I'm hoping to salvage and get working again and could use some pointers. It starts to boot up but hangs at the X screen during bootup (no Microsoft logo). There is some trace-rot and corrosion present on the board, and I'm hoping it's not bad enough to be causing these issues. The clock capacitor was leaking but it was very minor. High-res photos of the board: https://imgur.com/a/sESsyvi There's also a bodge-job done to the underside of the board, which I'm not sure what it does. The orange D0 wire was added by me. The thermal tape was there when I got it. The hard drive does not make any sound at all, so I hooked the HDD up to a PC and my PC couldn't read it (still no spin-up or reading sounds coming from the drive). I suspect that the drive may be broken. I swapped in a similar model HDD's logic board (first part of model was the same, last part was slightly different) and then the drive spun-up, but was clicking ('click of death' sound), but I'm not sure if this is from the drive being busted or from it being the wrong logic board. I burned 5849_Recovery to a disc, swapped in a different (unlocked) Xbox HDD and tried to boot from the disc and it hung at the same spot in the bootup process. I tried a different DVD drive too just in case. The fact that it's still misbehaving after taking out the supposedly-bad HDD makes me wonder if a BIOS flash went wrong. I have a copy of the debug BIOS, but no 1MB modchips on hand. I only have an Aladdin XT+2 and a DUO X2 Lite, neither of which can handle a 1MB BIOS. So I can get a better modchip and boot from that, but I'm not sure if that's even the problem. I've also tried swapping the power supply with the same one from a different Xbox to no avail. Any tips?
  3. Just a theoretical pondering as I could not find any info on it. I know you can null a HDD key on a soft mod’d xbox so I was wondering if it was possible to null and lock a hdd using a tsopd xbox then transfer it into the soft mod’d xbox? Cheers
  4. Hello, I have an original Xbox v1.6 with a xenium modchip in it. It's been sitting for years and I finally got it kinda working. When I installed the modchip, I unplugged the fan from the motherboard and ran power wires from the molex connector to get some more power out of it. It works fine, just loud and pretty sure it's not needed. I took it off the molex setup and plugged it back into the stock location on the motherboard but the fan never spins. I also noticed in my xecutor dashboard, the temps never change. Any ideas what could be causing the issue? Thanks in advance!
  5. I tried to upgrade my V1.0 Xbox with 4 Samsung version F RAM chips but it won’t boot. I’ve got an OpenXenium mod chip installed but I’ve tried booting both with and without yet it still flashes. Anyone know what this means/ anyway to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. As the title states I am repairing and modding a green 1.6v Halo edition xbox. This console was my wife's and we have had it in our closet for years. I decided to pull it out and see if this thing works for her to play as she refuses to play my PC or xbox one. She doesn't enjoy the new games as I do and wants to play older games she used to play as a child. As of now I have broken down the console and thoroughly cleaned it. I removed the heatsinks and removed all the old thermal paste and replaced it with noctua NT-H1, which is what I use in my PC builds. I noticed that the 5 capacitors closest to the CPU are all bulging and need to be replaced, so I ordered those. For mods, as of this moment I will be installing the Openxenium chip with the LPC rebuild board. I want to install a 2Tb hard drive and I know I'll have to upgrade the IDE cable and ad an adapter. Can someone add part numbers for the cable and adapter. I'll be using the WD Blue 5400 rpm drive for this. I have not made up my mind on BIOS and want to play around with several to find the one I know my wife can use with no problems. If anyone has some suggestions on BIOS let me hear them. Last I want to add some RGB lighting to the build, nothing crazy just a nice soft glow is what I'm shooting for. Not sure where to hook up to power and guess I'll have to search for some power pinouts and such. I would love to see some of your builds with lighting to get some ideas. Anyway I will be taking everyone along this journey as I build and learn this console. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated and I look forward to talking to and learning from you guys.
  7. I have a v1.0 original modded Xbox, it had an old Aladdin mod chip, I wanted to upgrade the hard drive and after doing some research I found out I can brick it by flashing a new bios. The bios is unknown but after running bios checker it reads I have a lpc sst49lf020, it boots up xecuter2 into an evolution x dashboard. If I use the hexen 2019 disc, what steps can I take after I install a larger hdd? I don’t need to clone it, I backed up everything using ftp, and I want a fresh install. Here are some images that may help... Thanks for your time.
  8. Hi all, I have an issue with my XBOX that doesn't power on anymore. Model: 1.2 TSOP: Yes, iND-2003 Mods: None other than removal of the clock capacitor Misc: Using the Chimeric Systems HDMI adapter (which is awesome) Yesterday I received a new modchip from eBay, the Xenium Gold with the 24K OS on it. I swapped out my old Aladdin chip and fired it up with no issues. I proceeded to add EvoxM8+, iND-2004, and XBlast on it. I tested all 3 BIOS and they all worked fine. From here I decided to do the 128mb RAM upgrade. I've successfully performed this upgrade once before. I'm using the same RAM that I purchased from eBay over a year ago that worked on my previous install on my other 1.3 XBOX: SAMSUNG 525 K4D263238F-QC50 I proceeded to solder in all the chips, but when I went to turn on the XBOX nothing happened. No light, no response, nothing. I don't ever recall hearing a pop or a snap. I double checked that I connected everything. Troubleshooting: - I thought it might be the PSU so I swapped in the working PSU from the 1.3 XBOX that I successfully did the RAM upgrade on and the same results. - The only thing I noticed was that when I pressed eject or power on either PSU, the Xenium chip LED lit up. If I held either button the LED just flashed. Other than that, no activity from the board whatsoever - One thing I noticed is that I soldered the final chip in backwards (chip 4 according to the XBlast diagram, the one closest to the ATX plug). I should have taken a break after 2 chips due to fatigue but I pushed through and I guess I wasn't paying attention. I used my hot rework station to pull the chip off and turn it around. Same results. - After this I decided to just pull the other 3 chips off to troubleshoot it from scratch, but no joy. - The repairs for power buttons I've seen after searching are mostly just the trace repairs on the 1.0/1.1. I'm not great at troubleshooting so I wouldn't know where to begin without a guide on the 1.2 XBOX. Did I fry the board somehow? Did putting the RAM in backwards just kill it? Did I ESD shock it? Did I get the iron next to something that I shouldn't have for too long and didn't notice? Here's some pics I uploaded to imgur since they're too big. I can take more photos or better photos of certain things if needed. Thanks in advance. https://imgur.com/a/iM2cj5y
  9. I have 2 og xbox 1.6 version. A little while ago I tried mod them and a bad Chinese adaptor for the hdd upgrade got them malfunction. So I ordered some good Panasonic capacitors and the startech adapters. Now that I think of it after the circuit malfunction I got them dedusted and rubbed them with isopropyl and a toothbrush. A fishy smell came out while I did the cleaning which means I have an electronic problem. On the boards I have one busted capacitor and no leak traces. One is hardmoded one is softmoded. How do I check exactly the problem before I try again to upgrade my hdd's? The problem I get from both xbox is the same. Whenever I plugged the hdd molex the xbox would power down instantly. If however I left the molex unplugged they would power up properly with the 07 error though. So any thoughts? I have a way to check the capacitors but I don't know how. The resistance and the power they must emit.
  10. Hey there, I have a chipped 1.6 and I'm using it on my LG 4K TV via component cable, I'm experiencing image drop out (see the video below). I've tried 3 different sets of cables, I've changed the Xbox to NTSC to enable HD video mode. Is there anything you people can recommend for me to try? I'm willing to try anything just so I can get this issue resolved. Thanks! Video link:
  11. Hello OGX Users, i am am an old Xbox Classic User. I am from Germany, i have a passion for Xbox gaming and Software modding. I play around with some Raspberrys and Betocera, Nintendo Switch and Retroarch. These days i found a Post with Rocky5`s Emustation and the Xbox Fever is back Hope to have good Days in this Forum.
  12. Hello! So after some suggestions from people here on the forum, I decided to attempt TSOPing my 1.0 xbox. Now, I haven't soldered for 4-5 years, and haven't touched an xbox since I moved abroad (have now moved back), so I don't remember much about the whole process. Didn't want to wait for flux because it wouldn't arrive for another 3 days, so I did the bridging without it. (Success btw) Now, for the flashing part, I'm wondering what bios you guys would suggest as the chip has a 1mb bank, and which CD you would recommend for setting the whole thing up (Hexen, Slayer etc). I know this is a bunch of NoOb questions, but I haven't been in the scene for a couple years. Looking forward to your replies! - Fixified
  13. EDIT BY ADMIN: It's not a 1.5. No 1.5 has ever been found because it was a hoax and could not actually exist. Well... Yesterday i got the old XBOX Crystal ( i spammed already in a other topc) and i was thought it's an v1.4 but it isn't (damit). It's an v1.5 Crystal which should be not realy exsist or at least it's a rar one? Anyway, it's missing at least 1 point on the LPC port. Since i never had a 1.5 I'm not realy sure if my plan, adding a Xenium and a Ram upgrade (the pads are still there on the 1.5 so i assume it would work?), will work on those. Do i need some sort of LPC fix like in the 1.6? And out of curiosity, would a TOSOP flash be possible with the 1.5? My final question, are the cases still the same like the 1.3/1.4 or are they already different like the 1.6? Below are some quick and dirty made pics. If someone whan't some in a better quality, let me know from what and i make some better pics for you.
  14. Hi, thought I'd share a quick story about picking up a faulty xbox I got it to work easily by replacing the 5 x 1500uf capacitors (common fix) I was surprised to find a different modchip than the good old aladdin. It is an Apple-X VI which is supposed to have 2 x 512kb banks according to https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17-modchips-generation-3b-from-xbox-scenecom/ However I could not flash a bios any bigger than 256kb on each of the bank. Not a biggie as the onboard tsop can support 1mb. Booting from the onboard tsop by pressing the eject button and from the modchip by pressing the power button.
  15. Hey all - I'm getting consistent freezes/stuttering on my hard modded Xbox. You can see and hear the stutters interrupt the scrolling in XBMC in the video below (turn up volume to hear it) and some of the stats change to "Busy" at the same time. This occurs everywhere, in-game and in dashboards like UnleashX, but this was the easiest way to capture it. I upgraded this Xbox a month ago and have been playing a lot without problems until now; copied ~600GB of data to it so far. I'm afraid I've just worn out the CPU/PSU. I even plugged the Xbox into my UPS to make sure it gets clean power, but it still happens. Specs: Hard Modded Xbox 1.1 with Xecuter Pro 1.2 chip. Flashed banks 1+2 (512k) with X2 5035 BIOS. Banks 2 & 3 (256k+256k) are unused. Upgraded 2TB SSHD with 80 conductor IDE cable and SATA to IDE adapter. Disk space split evenly between F:\ & G:\ partitions, formatted with 64k clusters. Thermal paste has been replaced on CPU & GPU with AS5. Clock capacitor removed. Tried swapping in and configuring a different 2TB SATA HDD with the same result. Currently testing the HDD, IDE-Cable, and SATA-to-IDE-Adapter in a different Softmodded Xbox to isolate the problem and determine if the issue carries over with the upgrade cable/adapter. Any advice is appreciated!
  16. Ok... first of all, I m sorry if this is a repeat, however I couldn't find a thread to help. Or at least it wasn't labelled under what I thought it might be. I have a TSOP xbox with IND-BIOS. It currently has XBMC installed. However, this XBMC doesnt run all the games that I am FTPing over to the console. Most games run fine, however there is an issue with some games. XIII doesnt run, DOA2 boots then hangs after the initial disclaimer. I am looking to install another dashboard type to load up these games and hopefully boot into them, but I havent been able to do so or find anything online. Does anyone know any 'how to for dummies' guides, or can help install another dashboard/application to allow me to boot the games that won't load? And which dashboard or applications would be best? Thanks in advance. Proto
  17. Hi all, I have a v 1.4 Xbox that was modded with the Xenium ice modchip about 15 years ago. It was in storage for several years and I just went back to using it again. It booted up just fine after all these years after I changed some bad caps and the clock capacitor. I was messing around with the various apps I had installed on it several years ago, and when using the XBMP (Xbox Media Player) app, I changed the resolution in the settings menu and when I rebooted, there was no video output - only a black screen with the "no signal" message on the TV. It looks like the XBox boots up normally (except for the black screen) because the Xenium chip's LED lights up indicating that it has loaded a custom BIOS, and I am able to FTP into the box. My suspicion is that the XBMP app changed a configuration (?.ini) file causing it to output a video signal that the TV (a Samsung flat screen TV with a 720p resolution, I think) cannot display. Can some one tell me what I need to do to get the display back? Thanks in advance for your responses.
  18. Does anyone know the jack size for the 6V 1A power adapter used for this thing? All the ebay sellers that have the power supply blur out the model number and overcharge.
  19. Hello everybody. I'm currently getting back into the Xbox OG modding scene after a long break. . . I currently have two modded Xbox's with different chips fitted, currently trying to ID what chips are currently fitted?? One of the Xbox's has a large hard drive fitted, and the other is standard, any recommendations on what hard-drive to go for.? Best regards Josh
  20. Hey all! I couldn't find much information online about this so I wanted to post it here so that others would be able to learn from my experience. TLDR; If you don't have any compatible flash drives but you have a PSP1000, you can use it to softmod your Xbox! I recently softmodded my first few Xbox's and I was having the hardest time getting the save files to show up. I followed all the proper procedures and tried 5 different <4GB flash drives without luck. The USBs I used were being recognized as memory sticks in the Xbox, but they would all show 5000+ blocks and no data. After lots of research and troubleshooting I found some scattered information that you could use a PSP to do it, and it works! Here's how I set it up: Requirements: a.) Original PSP1000 (This may not work with the later versions e.g. the "slim" PSP2000/3000 or PSP Go) b.) 32MB Memory Stick PRO Duo; the original SD card that came with your PSP (Some larger ones may work like the 1GB/4GB but I have not tested these) c.) USB-Mini cable (to plug into your PSP) d.) Xbox-to-USB adapter (to plug your PSP into your Xbox) e.) Softmod save files (e.g. from Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool.zip) f.) Xplorer360 (to copy the saves from your PC to your PSP) g.) msvcr71.dll (sometimes required to launch Xplorer360; store it in Xplorer360's working directory) Steps: 1.) Insert your Memory Stick PRO Duo into your PSP (if it warns you that the memory stick cannot be read, ignore this) 2.) Navigate your PSP to [Settings] > [USB Connection] and press X (this puts your PSP in "memory card" mode and acts like a USB flash drive) 2.) Plug your USB-Mini cable into both your PSP and the Xbox-to-USB adapter 4.) Plug the Xbox to USB adapter into your Xbox and allow the Xbox to format it (you can unplug/replug to ensure it is consistently recognized) 5.) Unplug the USB-Mini cable from the Xbox-to-USB adapter and plug it into your PC 6.) Ignore any prompts to Format the drive 7.) Launch Xplorer360 as admin and copy the save files over per-usual 8.) Safely eject 9.) ??? 11.) Profit Hope this helps some folks! I imagine that not many people will use this method, but if it's popular I wouldn't mind expanding the instructions to include detailed Xplorer360 steps etc. For now though, I figured people would have sourced those details already since they're method-agnostic. OG PSPs FTW!
  21. Hi I’m new here, just signed up. I’m hoping I can get my Xbox fixed. the problem is my Xbox doesn’t turn on all the way when I have my component OR composite cables plugged in, it turns on, briefly shows orange, then shuts off but when I unplug the video and turn it on the Xbox seems fine? (But no video of course) I’ve looked at the model date and it’s a 1.6b. I have a picture of the clock capacitor and to me it seems fine though I’m kinda new to this sorta thing. Can my Xbox be fixed? Is there some other issue with it? (It IS softmodded with UnleashX installed) Thank you
  22. Hello i have all the xbox iso classes of 7,641.760gb I tried to extract them with quix and c-xbox tool but it does not extract them, I can extract the iso only with the xbox image browser, but it does extract one at a time, is there any program that extracts multiple iso at the same time? thank you
  23. I bought a new OLED65B9PTA tv but am having issues connecting the XBOX to it. I can hear audio but don't see any video. The tv has a 3.5mm socket labeled 'AV1' and an adapter cable that goes from white/red/yellow TCA sockets to a 3.5mm plug and that's what I've connected to. When digging for info I found https://www.cnet.com/reviews/lg-oled65b9pua-review/ which says 'Unlike many of Samsung's sets, this one actually has an analog video input for legacy (non-HDMI) devices, although it no longer supports analog component video.' I'm not very clued up on exactly what the different outputs are. Is the xbox output analog component video and that's why I'm not seeing anything? I double checked plugging into my old TV and the XBox itself definitely still works. I'll appreciate any tips you might have. Cheers, Pete
