About Me

  1. I have a crystal xbox that has been running fine with a x3 chip, I believe its a 1.4 with a Focus video chip. I flashed the bios and set it up for a 2tb hard drive and all was fine. I have stripped the xbox down, cleaned everything, removed the heat sinks, cleaned and added new thermal paste. After rebuilding the xbox it fires up, 3x green blinks between power down then sits flashing red/green. It does the same if I have the x3 in or not. Have I damaged the board while handling? I have checked the chip soldering and D0, cleaned and re-flowed/re-soldered. But it still behaves the same. Any ideas/advice?

  3. I just resurrected a "for parts" xbox from ebay, and after replacing cpu caps, tsop flash etc, I was able to get it working. The issue I am having though is that the only cable that will work on it is my component cable. No other cable will work. I have tried both a third party AV cable and an original one, both do the same thing. I also have a xhox to hdmi dongle which will also not display any output on this xbox. Has anyone got any idea what is going on here?
  4. I accidently hit C6R5 while doing a 128mb upgrade. I assume it is a 29 ohm like the others near buy? I has hoping someone maybe could verify before I purchase a bag of them lol.
  5. Hello there! I bought myself a soft modded original Xbox and also found out you could make it look like the 360 blades with XBMC and MC360, now I also know I want to use XLink Kai and when Insignia launches for the console, I wanted to do that as well but I also know MC360 probably won’t work for that since it’s not been updated in years from what I’ve read on forums. I guess to shorten all of this up, am I overwriting my Rocky5 softmod with XBMC or MC360? Or would I be able to just switch back and forth between all the dashboards I want? Any help is greatly appreciated! (:
  6. i softmodded my xbox like 10 years ago and it hasnt been used in like 8 years, so i forgot alot of the stuff i needed to know. but currently my xbox is unable to start and just shows the XBMC splash screen and freezes with the light blinking. think i need to do a clean install of XBMC but i dont really know how to. back then i put in a new 250gb HDD at the time with XBMC. i do have the HDD key written down. i burned a new DVD of AutoInstallerDeluxe but it still goes to XBMC splashscreen. unable to FTP to it. tried looking for PC tools to unlock it but they are either old and dont support Windows 7 64bit, or dont detect the HDD, or no longer avalible after 18 years. is there a tool for unlocking the HDD from PC using the IDE cable (and supports Windows 7 64bit)? is there another way to do this? im not actually sure if the HDD is bricked or just locked locked. it detects on IDE in my PC, it shows up in Disk Manager as a 'Uninitialized Disk'. i used a Partitioning tool to do a sector scan it did nothing. but i would not be surprised if this is normal for a Locked HDD
  7. Hey all, I just got my own xbox original, and fixed a couple things including FRAG 50% Green 50% Red, and getting rid of the clock capacitors. The issue I'm running into now, is that the xbox will freeze in both the menu and while in-game. I opened up the motherboard, and found that the black wire for the gpu cooling fan is cut. Would this be the main issue for the freezing? EDIT: I disconnected the wire to see if there would be another FRAG, but nothing happened. EDIT 2: This is an unmodded, stock components, Rev 1.1 xbox original
  8. What is the best way to upgrade 1.6 Softmodded Xbox Hard drive.
  9. I thought that all of the original Xbox forums online were all gone/dead. It's great to see that there are still active ones to be found! For my first post I wanted to share one of my first Xbox consoles I modded. Its nothing special, just something designed to be used at events where hundreds gather where I wont be afraid to have any number of random visitors using it. The Xbox itself is simply softmodded and it has been reworked to use a 2.5" SATA HDD. From the 120gb it now houses coinops and a number of modded Halo, Timesplitter and Battlefront games. The idea is a very multiplayer friendly console that is intuitive to use. While it has an XBMC dash, it boots directly into coinops so any number of people can use it without having to ask what to do. Before I upgraded the HDD I took a snap of the original guts while I was working on the console. The HDD is sitting on a spacer above the motherboard to allow for increased airflow, done after the capacitors were rewired and replaced. For fans I am using a Sunon for exhaust and the famous Iceberq 4 for the chipset. The PSU has been wired externally similar to a laptop. While I could have used a picopsu, this defeats the purpose of the console being cheap, easy and worry free with strangers using it. It's nothing fancy. But it looks great, its robust, it doesn't overheat after 12+ hour sessions, I have very little money invested in it and I built it so I wouldn't be afraid of strangers mashing on it.
  10. Hi Guys; I have picked up a faulty XBOX over the weekend which has an error 5 code. I removed the drive and connected to my PC with FatXplorer and I am able to view the contents of the drive. Which means obviously it is unlocked. Is there any way I can lock the hard drive and re-install it in the XBOX? What options do I have?
  11. Hello everyone, I love buying broken electronics and fix them as a hobby, last week i came across 3 xbox consoles ( V1.0 , V1.3 & V1.6 ) . I've never owned an xbox so i'm currently taking my time in learning as much as possible as i go through the repair/restorations, any comments or critiques are very much welcome. Just a FYI below are the status of each model i got, 1. Xbox Version 1.0 : Alot of Clock capacitor leak and very bad corrosion (i'll put a picture of the damage) the xbox was cleaned with contact cleaner and some vinegar as well and used a soft tooth brush, but the are above the clock capacitor is very well much gone and will need to be wired manually , also i can see two resistors non existent (picture incoming later) ; as a result this unit does not even power on at all , my guess is the power or eject button traces going up to the PIC microcontroller are broken i'll check it. 2. Xbox Version 1.3: This one is a USA model (110V) but where i live Mains is 220V so the power supply needs to be replaced with another PAL equivalent ( I'll post pictures later). Clock capcaitor leaked but the damage was not that bad like the V1.0 , all cleaned up . also the 3300uF caps were bulged so i replaced them. ( SIde note : This one is working with a transformer 220V-->110V but obviously I prefer to make it less clunky . I would really appreciate if someone would kindly lead me in the right direction as where can i find 220V power supplies for this model, much appreciated. 3. Xbox Version 1.6: This one had no screws whatsoever , the HDD in it is 80GB i doubt this is stock. The Xbox starts up but gives an error 06 which i believe means the HDD is not married correctly with the xbox so i ordered an aladdin XT to fix this problem ( I think that is the way to go ). Note : All the above CPU and GPU were repasted with a fresh new thermal paste. Please let me know if there are missing information, I'll update this post if needed. BR
  12. Hello, is it possible to add SSD to softmodded xbox? If so, can someone tell me how to do it.
  13. I have one game that I use xdvdmulletter to recompile and when I load into my disc drive of Xbox it never plays. But the full .iso plays no prob on my laptop via xemu
  14. the compound used is sorta like a rubber, under heat it softens. like ps2 rubber pad, but more advanced and more efficient. same for cpu.
  15. I'm a noob and I need a little help please. I have softmodded my Xbox with Unleash X and now I want to hard mod it. I have burned Hexen 2018 disc image file to a disc and now I am trying to figure out how to get Xbox Bios Checker either v4 or V5 onto a disc. I burn the files to the DVD R disc but the Xbox won't recognize it. What Files do I need to burn onto the disc? Should there be a disc image file? What am I doing wrong? Do I have to hardmod it first for this to work? I'm sorry but I have looked at so many videos and searched so many forums that now I'm lost in the forest. Please break out the crayons on this one to show me how to do this. Thank you.
  16. This is not my problem but its not something I've come across before so I'm hoping somebody here has an explanation/solution because I'm stumped. Its from a Reddit user so I hope it is OK to post the link:- https://old.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/x2rn3u/help_dashboard_is_missing_how_do_i_fix_it/ The title says it all - the guy has FTP access now and, I think, that's due to a SID/AID disc and FTP access. He posted a link to a screenshot of his Xbox drive content and it it looks to me as if there is no E:\drive. Using SID rescue options I have zero experience so if somebody here has that knowledge and/or a solution it would be useful general Xbox information worth posting here for the future reference of all OGXbox users.
  17. I'm new to Xbox modding. And I've been hard modding my Xbox. I have a 1.0 Xbox with a Duo X2 installed. I planned on doing a lot of modding to it eventually. Anyways, I was fooling around with my Xbox trying to get UnleashX installed on a 512gb SSD. As I was pulling the SSD from its sata adapter I suddenly heard a pop sound coming from the wall. No more power was coming from that socket, as well as another socket not too far away. The unit was turned off but still plugged into a power strip when it happened. Maybe I touched something that I shouldn't have on the PSU. Or the PSU is bad. I really don't know. The PSU looks fine on inspection. I wasn't using the Xbox surge protector unfortunately. Just a simply two prong power cable. What I really want to know is, "What did I do wrong?" Is the Xbox still alright? Do I just have to scrap the PSU? What can I do to not let this happen again?
  18. Hi guys, just installed an Aladdin XT Plus 2 mod chip on my Xbox to fix an error 16 code. Now it plays Xbox game disks fine so I assume I could go the splinter cell route to get my dash back, however I would much prefer to burn a disk and run hexen/ slayer whatever to fix this. I remember on softmod it did have trouble booting from ISO burned disks but I did have it work a few times. So far tried just about everything, 4x speed, multiple different DVD burners, different types of DVDs, just cant get it to work. probably gone through about 20 disks trying everything, 99% sure I am burning them correctly (just tried this: https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/3041-iso-burned-discs-wont-work-on-modded-xbox/&do=findComment&comment=19438 ), unfortunately no luck. I believe I have a 1.4 Xbox with a Phillips drive. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks
  19. Thank you everyone in advance for all the help. I was given an Xbox and it doens't work, showed error code 07, I assumed dead hard drive so I wanted to do a hard mod. I have an early revision Xbox, just installed the Aladdin XT hard mod with EvoX BIOS, the install was a success and I get the logo in the top left on boot, followed by an error code 07. I have tried a few different things as I know that is the result of a hard drive time out. I've tried multiple IDE hard drives, known good IDE cable, known good DVD drive, I've unplugged the hard drive data cable and it still shows error code 07. I have a Hexen 2020 disc at the ready burned using Windows built in tool. I have ordered a few things; IDE to SATA converter to test with a known good SATA drive, and 80 wire IDE cable. Please let me know what I should try next. I am starting to believe the hard drive is actually fine, because when I unplugged the data cable it did not switch to an error code 8. Thank you!
  20. Hi, I currently own a complete in box original Xbox that is missing the foam. Everything else is still sealed in their small bags such as the cords and remote. All I'm looking for is the inner styrofoam that is used in the box. Thanks!
  21. I have a 1.6 with a alladin xt +2 non flashable modchip...if I put a 1tb sata in it with starlink sata adapter and use hexen 2022 can I build a hdd in the 1tb?
  22. Can anyone tell me which file which is inside the .XZP loads the Xbox HL2 menu?
  23. Got an v1.6 softmodded xbox (with non ejecting dvd drive) that i thought I could turn into a devkit system. Using MVG's 2018 Youtube video. But all i got was a bricked xbox. When i was supposed to start the pbl from the E: the xbox froze. And after a restart the xbox error 21 was present. I then fixed the drive belt on my dvd drive, so i now can eject and insert dvd's but no luck starting slayers-evox or any of my original xbox game. I didnt backup up the eeprom files. On the E: drive there was already present some similar PBL files - so i copied these to my pc before overwriting with MVG ones : ( boot.cfg, M8_LBA48_IGR_Q-06-BFM.bin, xbdm.dll, default.xbe (21kb), dashboard.xbx ) Is there a way to make this xbox come back alive ?
  24. In theory it is possible that the OG Xbox supports more than 128MB of RAM ? As for example 4 chips of 500 MB would already be a total of 2GB of RAM
