  1. Ok, I've never seen this before, and I'm hoping some of you awesome mad scientists might have a solution. I bought a v1.1 in decent condition hoping that I could do the necessary maintenance and use the guts in my X3 project. Got it home, turned it on and it worked...well enough that I was able to softmod it. Today, I opened it up to work on it and it was caked in dust (I've seen cleaner attics). Cleaned it thoroughly, removed the clock cap (neutralized and cleaned the small amount of leakage), cleaned the DVD drive, bridged the two TSOP points, installed an X3 pin header and replaced the thermal pastes. Pretty standard for what I normally do with an OG Xbox. Long story short, I put it back together to flash the TSOP, and it won't boot properly. It sounds like it's booting and the eject button ring turns green, but there's nothing on screen. The other odd thing, is it keeps scanning the DVD drive, and if I push the eject button, it turns off, then turns back on again. I confirmed the cables are good by starting up my primary Xbox. I'm thinking it's one of two things: 1. Trace damage, but I'm not seeing any obvious damage, the buttons work fine and the ring lights up properly. 2. Bad power rail caps, but they're not swelling (I've had caps go bad without swelling before) Before I make the effort of replacing either option, I wanted to see if this was familiar to anyone here. Any ideas? I'd be happy to answer any questions. Thanks all!
  2. Moderator Edit: Hey all. Currently having issues with my xbox. Have opened it 3 times now to re-examine it, and I have NO idea what I need to do to get it to turn on again. Here's a video I made showing the mobo, and explaining everything I've done and checked. Please let me know what you think, I'd love to do whatever I can to avoid needing to buy another box. Literally any help at all is greatly appreciated, please let me know. I read around some more and I've read it Might be a blown transistor, (As this seems to be a common problem with 1.6 mobos, which I believe mine is, last time I checked. Was a couple years ago, tho I'm pretty confident it's a 1.6.) or that I might need to solder new capacitors, or new cable, etc. Man, I'm just wondering if these might just be too old to buy anymore. Seems like nowadays they just break out of nowhere, and no matter how many I buy and replace, they just break down anyways Any way to prevent that from happening? Is there any kind of scene out there to completely overhaul these things to make them actually last longer than a few years? Please let me know what I should do, and Thanks in advanced! 3. Hey, As the title suggests i successfully tsopd a 1.2 motherboard with a hynix chip, the flash finished and the box switched off. i powered back up and removed my hexen disc. The bios booted fine and i got to Unleash no problems. This particular hdd did not have any MS dash installed on it, i wanted to install it so put in rockys extras disc as i know it has a stock MS dash on it, clicked launch dvd and the disc started to boot as normal. All of a sudden i lost all output to my TV and the power led went orange. I left it for a few minutes and nothing changed so i powered it off. Upon powering up again i get the 3 reboots and a FRAG!!! Any ideas as to why this has happened? I have installed a known working X3 modchip and still get exactly the same result, seems that this box will not boot a bios form either the tsop or the chip. How can the tsop get fucked from just booting a disc??? Could it be an EEPROM issue? Would that cause a frag??
