So I recently learned a valuable lesson about TSOP flashing when I flashed my 1.0 with iND-BiOS.Beta.Feb-11-05.67.bfm.bin rather than the non-BFM version of the bios. I was wondering what the practical purpose of the BFM (Boot from Media) bios is, and how one would even use it? I'm assuming it is a BIOS that something can load AFTER the Xbox as already booted and initialized all hardware?

I have several boards (1.0, 1.1 & 1.4) that will not power up with a known good power supply. Capacitors all look good and there are no visible signs of damage or component failure anywhere. Are there typical failure points that I should check? Would it be worth it to replace the power caps anyway? Thanks for any help. I hate to ditch these boards or just use them for parts.

Hi all, I've lurked here for a while now. This is a great forum to get info from. Thank you. Question - I've been working on XBoxes for a while now, and I just got my hands on a 1.0 with a dead Thompson drive and an even deader original Seagate hard drive (showing error 7). Upon opening the case, I realized it had an old modchip on the underside of the board: https://imgur.com/ZGJwShp Does anyone know what modchip this is? I'm mostly curious what that chip is. It's a very clean install and I've never seen one like it. If I tweak the laser pot and get the DVD drive working, will this modchip be able to boot Hexen? I have an Aladdin XT chip and a new laser coming in the mail, but they're a month away. I'm wondering if I can get the drive running just long enough to boot Hexen and install a new hard drive, maybe TSOP the box and then remove this older modchip. Thank you in advance!

Hello All, My 3TB hdd should be here tomorrow for my original xbox rev 1.3 with Xecuter 2.6 CE modchip. Ive been out of the scene for a LONG time and am trying to catch up. I want to organize a ton of xbox games as well as run emulators. What should i run on the hdd? I see a lot of softmods running XBMC4Gamers. Should i run that? Or is there something better? I really appreciate the advice. Im watching lots of youtube tutorials and scouring the forums trying to catch up, but hope to format and do it right the first time, so i appreciate the advice. Hello, Got a v1.1 Xbox today that i wanted to TSOP flash, but it has some issues, before doing anything the console was tested. The hard drive is making some loud whirring sound, but it manages to boot to dash, this will be replaced with a bigger drive. The DVD ROM was locked solid, so after opening the console and the DVD ROM, and giving it a good clean, that is now working again. But when i tested the DVD to see if it ejects, which it does, every eject press the console now appears to soft reboot, i mean it restarts but doesn't power cycle. Anyways i soldered the points on the mobo, and continued to flash which was successful, but the problem still remains with the eject. The console hadn't been opened before today, as far as i remember it didn't reboot on eject when i 1st turned it on to test and was trying to eject the tray. Have tried an alternate power/eject board but no change, also the console boots with no DVD drive connected also with no change, so i am out of ideas. Has anyone experienced this, or know of a fix ? any help is appreciated.

What ups So glad I found this awesome forum for the OG. I installed an OpenXenium chip and now I don't know what to do. My goal is to swap the original HDD (which is EVOX softmodded) with a spare 1TB I have laying around. I tried adding the retail kernel to the launch menu but it isn't working. On the original HDD the xbox boots to a black screen, on the spare HDD the xbox boots to an error screen. What is my next step?

Curious as to what could be inside. Any ideas?

Hello Together, I bought an xbox today and planned to do a softmod. When opening the console to remove the clock capacitor, I noticed that a modchip is already installed. Unfortunately, I can't find any information about this chip. Can you help me further? Can I just ignore the chip or should I pay attention to something? Is it possible to simply install a SoftMod ! Hi everyone. Recently I've been watching some ModernVintageGamer videos on YouTube and really wanted to get out of the drawer my old modchipped Xbox. It wasn t booting anymore because of a dvd reader failure(error 11 and 12) so I got a used xbox for spare parts off eBay,got the dvd player out of it and put it in my Xbox. The Xbox boots but it won't read even original disks. My question is how do I understand what modchip is installed? Can I run any sort of homebrew via USB and upgrade my HDD ? Thanks in advance.

Hi so I would love to play any games I can in 720 on the XBOX I recently hardmodded . Ver 1.6 Alladin xt 2 + chip stock HD . I have figured out how to play XBOX games in HD using XBMC for Gamers and was not able to play my KIXXX in 720 even though the setting are there. I select the option but it doesn't seem to "stick" as the resolution looks low. Maybe I cant play In 720 I don't know what I can and can't do with my basic setup. What are my limitations? Thanks.

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so apologies if it’s formatted incorrectly. I’m currently having a tough time trying to diagnose what could be causing my Xbox to output a wobbly video signal as seen here. I’ve tried -swapping power supplies -replacing the 5 caps near the cpu -giving the board and console a deep clean I’m thinking maybe it’s a grounding issue? Or perhaps the video encoding chip is about to die? Honestly I’m at a loss. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you guys.

some have them and some don't. i've noticed them mainly on thompson drives but have seen them on other drives to. what are those silver things that go on the front of the dvd drive and what do they do?

I just received an Xbox I bought from eBay really cheap which I was planning to use as spares. ive just cracked it open, and wow. So clean. Hardly any dust, no pitting of steel, Capacitor leaks (I’ll still remove clock anyways). i May even switch my main drive etc over to this one and softmod it Is this a 1.2? Date on sticker says 2003-08-15. Shame it’s a Thompson drive, but it still works.
