  1. Hi all. I posted this question in the X-S Discord a day or two ago and haven't made any headway in resolving the issue, so I'll post here and see if anyone may be able to help. A few days ago, I acquired a "non-working" 1.2/1.3 that had never been opened but externally was very clean. When I received it, I immediately opened it up to pull the clock capacitor and clean it up. Aside from the clock cap, the polymer caps were all leaking, as well as the caps near the CPU/GPU. I cleaned and recapped the entire board before ever attempting to power it up. After the initial cleaning and repair, I finally attempted to boot to be greeted with error 21. Since I went in blind, without any idea of what was actually wrong with the system, I just assumed the dash may have possibly been wrecked from a previous softmod/user error or something, so I opted to start by installing a fresh copy of the MS Dash files via FATXplorer. I got it back together, booted, and got error 16, which was expected. I then installed an x2.3b lite to get around the clock check, but rather than booting to the dash as it should, it just hangs at the Xbox logo splash screen. At this point I tossed in Doom 3 to see if it would load a disc, and it did begin to load the game, however it immediately froze as it was began to write the initial cache data to the HDD. I decided the HDD might just be crapping out after all, so I substituted a known good working drive from another system and this is where things get weird... The system will read the x2config.ini from the second HDD (evidenced by the fact that it can and does read, load, and apply the LED and fan settings from the INI file), but was exhibiting the same problem. It just hangs at the Xbox logo splash screen instead of loading XBMC. If I lock any of the drives and try to boot from the retail bios, I go right back to error 21 again... Just to check my sanity, I tested and confirmed all the individual drives and parts work fine in another system. Also, while performing the testing in the working system, I reformatted and "factory reset" the OEM HDD using OGXbox Installer 1.5.4 just to eliminate myself and any possibility of my wrong-doing from the equation. In the working system, MS Dash loads as it should. If I move the HDD back to the problematic system, error 21. After trying various combinations of 4 HDDs, 2 DVD drives, 3 different IDE cables, 2 power supplies, both with and without a modchip, I still cannot get beyond error 21 or the system freezing... I think it's weird that I can boot into Xblast from the chip, format, lock, unlock, and read the S.M.A.R.T data from the drives without issue. It's weird that it will read the x2config.ini from the drives, but based on the observed behavior, it seems like any other HDD I/O causes it to crap itself, and ultimately all roads have led to error 21. At any rate, I am out of ideas on what else to try and any suggestions or help are, of course, greatly appreciated.

    Weird screen

Hi there, Suddenly my xbox has a blueish screen. When it boots what normally is green is now blue and also my dashboard is missing the green color. Does anyone has an idea? Ive ruled out: Tv settings Dvd drive Hdd Ide/sata adapter Video cable
  3. Hi! I have a softmodded xbox (PAL) and i am having a problem while playing some games or running some apps. Here is what i am talking about: There is weird black line that shouldn't be there. I'm not having the same problem with dashes (UnleashX, XBMC, MS Dash), games like Doom 3, Call of Duty 3, SSX 3 or some apps (example: having problem with dvd2xbox v0.7.8, but not with version 0.7.4). As shown in the picture, I think the red section should be over the green one (on the top). Maybe there is something wrong with my tv (toshiba model: 32XV500P). I also tried different settings, but nothing changed.
  4. so I got a new Samsung SDG-605 drive and wanted to replaced the aging Philips on my 1.1 machine with it. except I'm having this weird problem with it. sometimes the Xbox hangs on the "xecuter rox my box" screen for a few seconds before booting. when that happens, the Samsung drive shows "init" rather than "empty" and won't read any discs. checking the system's settings tells me it's not recognizing the drive at all. I can get it to boot normally sometimes though, the drive works fine then. I've tried several things already, a different ide cable (even the stock one), power supply and cord, with and without the top case. formatting didn't help, either. I'm guessing it's either the ide to sata adapter (it's a startech) or maybe the cable needs to be in the correct orientation (blue on the board)? or did I get a dud drive?
  5. i've been asking about why my xbox has started emitting an intermittent high pitched whining sound. well, i was just doing some more troubleshooting with the top shell off. i was feeling of the dvd and hdd and i noticed it felt like i was getting a mild shock. so i got my volt meter and stuck one probe in the ground prong of an outlet and another one on different metal parts of the xbox. i was reading 60+ ac volts(i'm in the usa so we have 120 volts, one hot leg and 2 ground legs, at our wall outlets). i figured i had a bad psu so i changed it. here comes the weird part. i did the same test with a volt meter and was still reading 60+ volts with the known good psu in it. i tested the other xbox that the psu came out of before removing the psu and it was showing 10 volts. so how would 60+ volts get through to the metal parts of the xbox if the psu is not at fault? update: now the known good xbox and psu are showing 56 volts. are they suppose to do this or did i damage the psu?
  6. well, i modded my 2nd xbox tonight and i'm having a weird problem. on the home screen, the cpu temp is slowly rising. the temp limit was set at 50 c and it would get up to about 51c and the fan would kick up to about 3.0x. so i raised the temp limit to 55c. the xbox is slowly climbing to that temp. it's sitting at 54c right now. what is causing this and how do i fix it? my 1st modded xbox is a version 1.4 and it idles in the 40's at 1.0x fan speed. btw, i changed the 3 caps in front of the heat sink on both systems.i also changed the cpu thermal paste on both systems(i didn't change the gpu thermal paste).
  7. Hi everyone I've found that one of my old xbox is not working anymore when i try to boot it is making a weird sound and goes off, anyone know what could be the problem? maybe a power supply issue? The xbox should be a 1.1 with softmod not sure as was in a box for years I leave a video attached of the problem Thanks xbox_mpeg4_mpeg4.avi
  8. I'm not 100% sure where to put this, so I'll post it here. If it needs to be posted somewhere else, please let me know. I'm having this bizzare issue with Namco Museum (2001) where with some games, it will freeze upon, not entering, but exiting a game. This happens with Pole Position and Ms. Pacman. Not sure if it happens with Pac Attack or Pac Mania, I haven't unlocked those yet. For the affected games, it consistently freezes between pushing pause at the main menu of the loaded game, and after selecting exit from that pause menu. It locks the system to the point where it won't respond to the controller, but does allow for disc ejecting to the dashboard. The disc is a bit scratched, but it is in good condition, especially compared to my other games which have a LOT more damage than this copy, and have zero problems. My only idea as to what is going on here is those scratches somehow corrupted the protocol that the affected games use to exit to the main menu. Not sure if exiting mid game has the same effect. As I eluded to before, none of my other games have any issues loading or playing whatsoever. By that logic, I'm certain my disc drive works absolutely fine. It reads my other games and most of my CD's without any issues. Do you guys think I'm right in my assessment, or is there something else going on? I have filmed this issue and I will post it to my YouTube channel on about four days from this post, if all goes well. I will link it somehow if there's enough interest.
  9. i'm not well versed on how to interpret the readings on capacitors but my understanding is that the uf should go down as the cap is wearing out. i pulled a couple of 3300uf caps off of a board and they are both reading over 8000uf in my esr meter. i tried some new caps to be certain that the meter is reading correctly and it is. why would the uf go up on an old cap?
  10. i was ftp'ing games onto my new hdd when filezila suddenly error'd. when i went to check my xbox the dashboard said i have 0mb left(i had over 2,000gb on this partition) on e drive and games management said i only have 3 games installed. i deleted the games and the dashboard was saying i only have 3,000+mb's free. long story short, i kept messing around with trying to reformat the hdd and put about 1024gb on 2 partitions but the dash board would only show that i had a little over 3,000mb on each partition even the partition wizard was saying i had 1024gb on each partition. what the heck is wrong with this thing? i'm currently erasing the hdd in my pc and writing all 0's to it. then i intend to try it again but i have no idea if this gonna fix it. btw, i have an aladdin chip(5004 f and g bios), 80 wire ide cable, and 3tb barrcuda seagate drive.
  11. i bought some broken xbox's. one of them says it freezes after playing for a while. i booted it up and the date was 04/13/44. i changed the date and unplugged it for a while. i then plugged it back in and it had the 04/13/44 again. i have never heard of that being the xbox's default date and i'm guessing it has something to do with the problems that it is having. what the heck would cause one to act like that? it's a version 1.6.
  12. Hi Mates, I met the following issue, I try to explain everything... I'm totally lost in space, so I hope, you have some idea what happening... So, first, what you have to know: - I've got an xbox classic v1.6 without video and sound output. - When opened it, I found a MuppetX modchip in it. My friend inform me, he try to flash this modchip, but 1MB always gave an error message "mismatch bios size", so he flashed it with 256KB bios. That was the mistake of him, so the modchip never works again... (The LPC Chip is 49LF020A, like in Aladdin) - I flashed it with USB Programmer with many types of bios.bin, tried 256, 512, 1024 evom8+ for v1.6, I tried everything to use it again... But the only working solution was to flash it with 4*256kb = 1MB XBlast OS bios. But when I use XBlast NET bios flasher (cause I can't use any other way, just USB programmer), the flashed bios never works. - I checked all capacitors and all of them is in good conditon... I checked traces and all of them in good condition. - When I push (more than 5 sec) the power button, the xbox started and loaded the XBlast OS. Without modchip (power up with eject or just push power button) there is no video or sound output. If I change the Bank (I do not know is it bank0 or bank1), the Xbox turn off and turn on again... My questions: - Is there anyone who has an original dump of a MuppetX bios? - Which is the Bank0 and Bank1 on MuppetX? - Which BIOS size the correct for that? (As I said, I try 1MB first and all other sizes, but won't work...) - Why Xbox doesn't give video and sound output without modchip? Is it maybe an EEPROM error?... Thank you in advance! BR, Zsolt ps: I red this topic: but do not help
  13. I recently picked up a 1.6 Crystal at a thrift store for cheap. It even had a replacement 160gb installed with the newest build of EvoX Dashboard defaulting, a couple of games, emulators and movies. Pretty good score! But I'm not the biggest fan of EvoX. I can work with it (and XBMC is also installed) but I'd rather do UnleashX. However, when I FTP up a copy and try to run the dash xbe, I just get kicked back to EvoX. Trying to boot the MS Dash gives me the same result. Interestingly, XBMC dash does start properly. Any great ideas? Could it have anything to do with a bios version? I know almost nothing about the various types. I'm also assuming TSOP modded. I've already tried booting up a Hexen disk and poking around, but of course, the DVD drive is pretty crappy and its not reading the disk...You get what you pay for! Thanks
  14. Hello people. I have a weird problem here. In the last few days i noticed that Forza randomly freezes(3-10 minutes of gameplay),but if i play it with the default xbe not patched with flicker fucker, the game runs fine. This problem happens to all 4 of my xboxes. I remember that in the past i used to play it fine and i think that it was also flicker fucker patched. Any idea of what the problem would be? Thank you
