  1. I've been doing a crazy amount of research, and thanks to how scattered information is, I decided to ask for a "definitive" answer: What is the best way of loading games onto an Xbox? While I know there are varying definitions of "best" I'm mostly referring to compatibility (no random breakage) and file size (as small as possible.) I initially assumed that CCI was the best, but due to Repackinator refusing to compress my redump ISOs (unless it was via context menu, but then I had no default.xbe), I looked into the other two methods (XISO and extracted files in a folder) I personally find it easiest for me to just extract everything with XDVDMulleter and drop it onto my HDD, with the few test games I've used work seemingly perfect, I can't help but wonder if any issues can come from this method?
  2. on one of my hard modded xbox's, i have a 3tb sata3 seagate drive. it has almost every xbox game ever made and some extra stuff too. i have the dashboard set for xbmc4gamers and fast parsing but it loads so slow. i have found that to be the fastest dashboard though. on my softmodded xbox, i upgraded the drive to a 300gb ide seagate drive and the same ide cable. i only have mostly the games that are available with insignia right now plus a few others and it loads to the unleashX dashboard. it loads SOO much faster, even with that old slow ide hdd in it, that i am tempted to use it instead of my hard modded system with all the extra's on it. is there anyway to speed up my hard modded xbox without deleting a bunch of games? i have another hardmodded xbox with a 2tb wd black 7200rpm drive and it only loads 4 seconds quicker(i timed it several time) so a faster harddrive wouldn't help much.
  3. Dear all I want to change power led color of og Xbox but can't remove front panel to gain access to power pcb, what is the easiest way to open it? Thanks
  4. AA on sub 1080p content only serves to degrade the visuals, IMO. Both the N64 and Wii have homebrew to disable various blur effects to great effect. Are there grumblings of anything similar for Xbox?
  5. I flashed what I KNOW is an overclocked bios at 777mhz. Xbmc is reporting a stock speed. I've heard of this happening. How can i be sure that my overclock is working?
  6. I have an Xbox with an Xecuter 3, X3CP, and the daughterboards for the controller port and front panel PCB, booting from the chip requires pressing the eject button but I have a couple of problems with this: - Booting with the eject button causes Cerbios to boot into safemode and not display any boot animation - Opening the disc tray each start up puts unnecessary wear on it, that's something I'd like to avoid I hardly have any experience with the X3, is there a way to enable the chip no matter what button powers the console on, or a way to switch which button enables it? I'd prefer to keep the ability to boot to the backup image
  7. The .xbe file format seems to be reverse engineered, but as far as actually compiling them goes, you still need to use Microsoft's official tools from 2003? Which also means not being able to use modern C/C++ features...? I'm having a hard time believing this. Are my Googling skills just bad, or has nobody bothered to fork gcc or clang or modern?
  8. I got a xbox og with no hard drive can I fix it?
  9. What is the best way to upgrade 1.6 Softmodded Xbox Hard drive.
  10. Hey, I've done a RAM upgrade on one of my consoles (1.4) and it's doing the on/off/on/off/on flash orange and red dance. I've reflowed the chips, scoured them with a magnifying glass for bridging and the rest of the board for splashes, and scrubbed the board with IPA hoping that if it was a splash, it'd be knocked loose, but I've had no luck. I'm at the point where I think it might just be some bad memory, so what would be the best way to remove the chips without damaging or moving the surrounding components?
  11. Hello all! I have a little question. Can I use 49lf080 to make cheapmod? I have one OGX v1.4 intended for experimental purposes (in poor visual condition). I'd like to replicate a dev-kit with COMPLEX_4627debug and dev dash. or if you know other cheap way to get 1MB flash at v1.4, please give me a hint. Best Regards, PatriX1234
  12. Going to upgrading from base HDD at some point, but didn't want to start with SATA drives right out of the gate. Wanted to use otherwise dormant IDE drives out in the wild, & was wondering exactly HOW one would know if a IDE Hard drive supports locking for softmod Xboxes.
  13. Been trying to get my head around the best way to install games. I think I got it sorted, could I get some feedback please? Start with ReDump style ISOs. Next step depends if there's anti-piracy protection (determined by going through the DVD2Xbox ACL files, eg. ACL for TOCA 3) If there's protection, just remove the video partition and leave the game partition untouched. dd if=redump.iso of=game_data.iso skip=387k bs=1k Otherwise, use extract-xiso (which now has ReDump support) to convert it into a compatible XISO and shrink the size. extract-xiso.exe -r "redump.iso" If the resulting ISO is > 4gb, use XISO Split to split into smaller files. FTP the ISO file to F/G:\\Games Run the "XISO to HDD Installer" script in xbmc4gamer Source of most of my assumptions: https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1134-xiso-playing-games-from-xbox-hdd-using-iso-images/page/5/ Thanks everyone.
  14. Hello, Just finished doing my first 128mb upgrade on a 1.0 xbox. Overall it wasn't too bad just had to take my time. Used xblast os to make sure all chips were good and let it run for a while and let everything heat up.. everything is good.. Next step was to flash regular bios back to the tsop replacing xblast bios. Got netflash going and loaded up a 1mb x5035... progress bar completed then the xbox rebooted... on reboot I accidentally bumped the power button shutting the xbox off... not sure if I screwd up the flash by bumping the power button or if there was an issue with the bios file I used... Now when powering up the xbox the power cycles a couple times then flashes red/ green with no video output.. I do have a couple Aladin chips around here somewhere I should be able to flash and use but I was just wondering if there is any way to save the on-board flash chip? I seem to recall reading about some modified m7 bios that may allow saving on-board flash but I'm assuming the modified bios would only work with certain bios on the tsop... Can anyone please confirm if I can save the tsop or am I stuck with a modchip on this box? Took my time installing the ram chips only to rush the bios flash... sooo stupid
  15. Hello! I have finally just got my XBMC install nearly to where I want it, and want to back it up in this state. What is the most ideal way of doing so? Should I just mount the drive in FatX and save each partition?
  16. I got a 1.6 Xbox off ebay today. Still works (minus the dvd drive, but I got several spare dvd drives), but the case is absolutely fucked in and out. After taking the controller ports out, I can't even put them back in - all but one of the posts for screws that hold the controller ports in are broken! I can only hold controller port 4 in with the intact post, all the other posts have big chunks broken off. Is there anything I could rig up to hold the rest of the controller ports down, or bolt it down, or should I just try to find an intact 1.6 case?
  17. Last year I put together my personally ideal XBox. Decent AV cables, hard-mod, big HDD, quiet fans... all the fun stuff that increased the consoles capabilities and improves the experience. And until last week that XBox was running perfectly fine. However, the console is now completely dead. The PSU is fine, and I tried changing several of the capacitors on the motherboard, but there is simply no life at all. The console just doesn't react at all when the power button (or eject) is pressed. There's not even a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' kind of signal that the console is even receiving power. But, like I said the PSU is fine, that was the first thing I tried. And after several hours of replacing capacitors, trying to find the one that may be stopping the power from reaching the console... I gave up and held a respectful funeral for my short-lived friend. Close friends and family attended. Clearly I'm just trying to add some humour there. But when I did finally run out of components to replace I procured a replacement console to start the project again. That console came, and works fine. However, I cannot use the 2TB HDD I had installed in the previous console. I can't remember when or exactly why I did... but I locked the HDD to the, now dead, console. As such no matter what I connect the HDD to, because of the 'lock' the XBox imposed on the drive; I can't do anything with it. The replacement console can't unlock it, or format it. My PC sees the drive and it's capacity, but is unable to do anything with it. I've tried Windows and Linux, as I though the 'brutish' nature of the latter's terminal commands could break the 'locked' state. But, even Linux doesn't work. Replacing the drive isn't all that much, money-wise. However, it would be a shame if this perfectly functional HDD is now reduced to nothing more than an overengineered door-stop. Although not a massive capacity by modern standards; 2TB could still be useful for many things, if there is some way I can 'unlock' it. As I mentioned above the console it was 'locked' with is completely dead. I cannot find any reason why, but there isn't even the slightest of a glimmer of life at all. I don't know what could cause such a state, and it's confusing that it was working fine a few days before. And just for those who go straight for this suggestion... I already took out the clock capacitor. I've done that on every XBox I've ever had in my possession. It's usually the first thing I do upon opening them up. And just to be clear; I am careful when removing them. I don't force them; I do use a soldering iron and take them out with a delicate touch. Anyway... I have just ordered a replacement 2TB HDD. But, if there's a secret way of reenabling the use of the one I have now; I'm sure I could find a productive use for it. However, after trying a few 'suggestions' already; I am not going to hold my breath. That said; I am open to suggestions. I also want to clarify that the PC motherboards I have are unsuitable for running XboxHDM. The only PC motherboard I have with IDE can't boot from USB, and I don't have an IDE optical drive. And the other (which can boot from USB) doesn't have any IDE connections at all. If memory serves me; XboxHDM need to access the HDD via IDE, even when connecting a SATA HDD (via an IDE-to-SATA adapter). So, unless XboxHDM has changed since I last tried to run it; that particular software won't function properly on the hardware I currently have. Also, because the cost of replacing the HDD is so low, I'm hoping to avoid spending too much, if any money on rescuing this 'locked' HDD. I am just traying to be a little eco-friendly in repurposing it if possible.
  18. Coming back to the ogxbox is great, but playing games that have inverted look/aim (opposite of modern games) in such a pain and just can't get used to it. Luckily most games have an option to swap but for the ones missing the option is there any way to patch the games? Thanks.
  19. Noticed that my DVD drive is having a had hard time reading discs. I did clean the laser with 91% alcohol. Is there any way to calibrate the lasers power?
  20. the seek time is a little longer than i'd like it to be. is there a way to defrag the hdd to speed up the seek time?
  21. Hi, Is using XBMC is the only way to get the box art in the dashboard ? Regards,
  22. Hi Does anyone have some current eBay links to suitable cables? I have an 80 way cable but to get it to connect to the bits the cable is twisted all over the place and the orientation seems wrong compared to the original 40 way cable. So links to something that fits tidily and sensible orientation would be great, thanks.... (Global shipping, I'm in UK not USA!)
  23. So I have about 1.5TB worth of files I need to transfer from my PC to my Xbox and it would take 35 hours, assuming the Xbox hits the full 100Mbit/s transfer speed. Is there a faster way to transfer files? Xplorer360 is the only tool that seems to see my drive, but of course it doesn't see the extended partitions that will be holding my files. It's been like 13 years since I last touched xbox modding and I'm having a lot of fun!
