About Me

  1. just opened up a 1.0 xbox which was hard modded back in the day, when there was no chip on the top of the board i assumed it must have been tsop'd, took the board out and found this monstrosity, ive locked a stock HD to it and desoldered the chip so i can start afresh. im glad things got easier as time went by!
  2. I was given this mod chip, and a bunch of Aladdins, from a guy I bought some hard drives from. It does not have the wire that you hard wire to the board. I have never installed a mod chip before. My question is, can I solder directly to this chip? Or do I need to source a new cable for it? What are the chances this is a dead chip? anything else missing?? Thanks in advance! ?
  3. I'm in the middle of a small project to repair a spares or repair Duke and I'm thinking of converting it over to a USB connection (as one of the problems is a frayed cable) and everything I've read says that I don't need the red wire that's in the original cable. Obviously you couldn't get it to work with USB if you did, but I'm curious as to what it's used for if I don't need it. So far I've seen it called "Video Sync", +12V and VCC, but that doesn't tell me why it's there. Except maybe for "Video Sync", but why would a controller need video sync?
