About Me

  1. I have a startech S-video adapter for my CRT tv. I want to enable the higher resolutions (480p etc) in xbmc but don't want to buy any HD av pack. Is there any specific pin inside the standard AV cable's male plug where I can move the composite video wire to do this? I mean, I imagine it would be whichever one corresponds to S-video or component on the HD AV pack. This probably sounds a little ignorant but I've never done AV mods.
  2. Hi - having gotten the xbox original bug recently I have acquired a few original xbox consoles from friends and colleagues. I have a 1.0 that has a fan on the GPU so it's pretty noisey. I have a 1.6 and that can't be Tspoped and I don't have the skills required to add a chip. Today, a colleague gave me an xbox 1.1 - I opened it and checked to see if there was a fan on the GPU and there isn't - which is good in terms of noise. This also means that I can TSOP the 1.1. I have 3 or 4 more lying around in my attic that I collected over the years at car boot sales (mainly to get the games that came with them in bundle packs) - is there a particular model that I should look out for like the 1.1 seems to have the best of everything for me right now or am I wrong? Which version do you think is the best and why? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello. 1- I installed for the first time an Alladin xt Plus2. When I just plug my Xbox with the Power cable the red light on the chip immediately turns on. Shouldn't turn only when I turn on the Xbox? I am afraid I did smth wrong. The chip works fine anyways. It appears the EVOX logo. 2- Is it normal xbox heats up more than the usual before I installed the chip? The heat sink kinda burns after the chip installation. I changed for a new 250gb hdd. Is that the reason for the heat problem? Should I change the cable for an 80 pins to don't heat up a lot? Thanks.
  4. For the last year or two I've been working on reversing some of the data structures that have been left unresearched or incomplete by the old scene, not to such a hardcore degree as I would honestly like but off and on when I have the time. This spans from what most people have seen me put out like the Xbox LIVE account stuff but I also have an interest in FATX16/32 structuring, the various configuration/datastore sectors at the beginning of the Xbox hard drive, the 1BL/FBL/2BL/BIOS image structures and data packing, XBE header/certificate data, security, and structuring, and the EEPROM data and structuring - the fundamental data types that make up the Xbox Today I completed the EEPROM data structure - well I say "completed" but there are still some things like flags, bitpacking, and a single unlabeled 16bit value to truly finish up all the info on the data handling side of things - however, structurally I have mapped out all the EEPROM data including the notorious hardware section as well as reversing the XConfigChecksum into something much more legible, portable, and simply more correct than what's been sitting on the XboxLinux/XboxDev wiki's for the last decade and a half I didn't really feel posting something like this on Reddit would be the way to go, the constant Twitter-feed like nature of threads just buries information and I have always preferred forums for their organization - and besides, forums are where I started in modding and forums are what I ran/helped run for many years of my modding life Anyway to my point, if you're interested in the structure and/or (partial for now) handling of EEPROM data then I've posted all the info on my GitHub project. This information can be used to parse, edit, or build an EEPROM image from scratch for any revision of the Xbox (including 1.6 and 1.6b models). I'll likely make a tool for people to create/edit EEPROM images at some point but I've got a couple Xbox projects I've been working on for a while and would like to finish at least one of those before starting another and I'll stuff all this structuring information into a table on the project page soon or maybe edit the XboxDev wiki so it's easier for non-programming people to view and understand at a glance Thanks for reading (also, posting this in the general forum wasn't my first choice but this doesn't really fit into the topic of homebrew - it's more so R&D) This paragraph has nothing to do with the subject of my post but I just wanted to say something personal here. I post this kind of information and put out these various tools and answer these questions that most people don't have an answer to for the sole purpose of bettering or further educating and simply just passing on information I know to the few left in original Xbox scene and even though I might come off as such it's never really been an ego or "clout" thing for me with the original Xbox, I've owned an original Xbox since 2001 and it's purely a passion thing. All I'm really after with this hobby of research and modding of the Xbox is to leave the scene with correct information or at least as correct as I'm able to comprehend and express to others, which I'm sure the old members of the early scene tried to do as well. The reason the original Xbox still lives on is because of sites like this and the handful of people that still hold onto their interest of the original Xbox or their passion of tinkering. Some of you may know my username and others may not, I've seen people mention me as this sort of Xbox "guru" or "expert" and I don't know if I come across as such but I can say, there are many things I don't know, many things I feel I'll never know, and a lot of times I feel like I barely know anything but I know objectively this isn't entirely true because there's a lot I know about the Xbox (and Xbox 360 for that matter) and yet it doesn't stop me from feeling dumb much of the time. Everything I know about computers, the Xbox/Xbox 360, data, structuring, programming, etc. is all self-taught and if you want to learn the type of stuff I know then you absolutely can teach yourself these things and it doesn't necessarily need to be on the software side of things, if you want to know hardware then you can teach yourself that as well - push yourself to learn, you are your best teacher. If you're part of the Xbox scene, whether you're a complete noob or have been around forever, whether we've had good/bad interactions in the past or maybe in the future, know that I appreciate you regardless of your knowledge or "status" and know that I hold no negative feelings towards anyone left in this scene and I probably never will. Not entirely sure why I just wrote this rant but hopefully no one minds, I'm just glad I'm not alone in this hobby of playing around with a 20 year old outdated machine
  5. Here's how it happened I end up using a toothbrush to clean my xbox cause I'm too stupid and the rubberbelt came off and now I'm having trouble here getting it on again anyway to do this without a screwdriver at all I hate to waste my money on a whole new one
  6. hello all, been playing xbox since it came out and still think it is an awesome console. been a member of the fb group for a while but haven't gotten around to getting on here until now. I am selling my gaming collection and have a whole stack of games, controllers, and consoles that need to stop collecting dust in my house. I am getting ready to move and I am sure we all know how heavy the darn console is. Anyways, I will post a thread with all of what I got once I get validated and all that. Glad this forum exists!
  7. I've softmodded my first xbox and I upgraded the HDD and I've heard about the wonders of Emulators, Homebrew ect ect, now I'm wondering where do I download emulators lets say for the N64 or Sega Genesis? All help is appreciated.
  8. Hi all, I've been googling and searching and not finding an answer to this. I fired up my Xbox today (first time in a while) and got a notification that a new version was available. I went into the settings, updated the URL downloader and then did the XBMC4Gamers update. After a bit, I got a message that "autoexec.py" or something like that failed. Now I'm stuck at a screen that says XBMC Fatal Error: No suitable skin version found (see screenshot) I am able to FTP into the xbox just fine. I did find some mention of a guisettings.xml file but I can't seem to find where it might be and where I can get a replacement for it (if that's even the problem) My default dash is/was xbmc4gamers, BTW. I would appreciate any help!
  9. Hi Everyone! I'm Edge, I've been involved in various console scenes since 2001. I was a previous member on X-S and have to say OGX is the next incarnation with a wonderful sense of community, helpful users and great information. I'm honored to be here. I've been involved in a number of "preservation" scenes including Saturn, DC, and Gamecube and have done hobbyist development on a number of systems. Like many real life pulled me away from consoles, I had sold many of my modded consoles. My kiddo has gotten old enough now to take an interest in "retro" (retro to her at least haha) gaming so it rekindled my interest and now I'm building "complete" consoles for each generation (catered game collections with all DLC and patches all playable from a console). I recently got a mystery eBay box with lots of classic XBox items that got me started on the xbox path again and so here I am, needing some assistance and already getting some great help and finding great materials. Thanks for keeping the OG Xbox torch going!
  10. I got a job lot recently of some consoles - and all of them have buggered Thomson drives I've tried adjusting pots, tried booting multiple burnt copies of HeXen and OGXBOXInstaller etc. but all seem to just hang on the Linux screen. Any suggestions for what can be done? Can a HDD be setup outside the console? I have FATXplorer - and I know Eaton was looking at adding more support for the OG Xboxes however I think these are all still in beta. Cheers guys
  11. First of all, thank you dear community for the oportunity to be a part of something good! I have a strange problem, have xbox 1.4 with aladdin XS MODCHIP, an older modchip ,but nonetheless it is working, As i want to upgrade to larger HDD, i pot-ed thomson drive, because it was failing, i put the 80 gb hdd, but i get error 13 and/or 16, the problem is that hexen or slayers cant read dvd from the first try,and always it can read from the second, third, etc. Also reads backups and reads hexen and slayers from retail HDD. Orange light is ok,evox sign is in the left-upper corner,it tries to read dvd hexen, but gets me to error 13 or 16 (this is only when i put blank HDD instead of the retail one)? DVD TRIES TO SPIN 2-3 TIMES, BUT NO BOOT TO HEXEN OR SLAYERS DISC,THEN ERRORS FOR MISSSING DASHBOARD Is there any solution to this?would appreciate very much,i could provide any information needed, THANKS IN ADVANCE
  12. My Names Kaan, I am a modding enthuiast and have modded things from Xbox's to Ps3, Psp's, Wii's. Really enjoy doing it. Last night I successfully Tsop'd my first OG 1.1 Xbox, Flashed it with Xecutor 2 Bios using x2.5035.bin file with Xblast OS. Upgraded the Hardrive to a 2tb and am in the Process of transfering the Entire library excluding Sports and Maybe Disney games. Transfering Coinops and Ninja Massive ( not sure if both are really needed ) Wondering if there's anything thats a must I can stick on this thing apart from what i've mentioned. Maybe some useful tools?
  13. I grabbed a Kernel file from this page and I flashed it with XBlastOS. Does the kernel have to match the original kernel? What is the kernel relative to the BIOS? Normally kernel and BIOS are two very different components of a computer. I shouldn't have been able to flash the TSOP with the kernel correct? How are those kernels meant to be used? I was looking for the default BIOS. Thanks

  16. Hey guys, Wyverino here I am fairly new to the xbox modding scene. My gf just gifted me an old premodded 1.1 for christmas and I love it so far. I just want to tweak it a little more to make it my hopefully favorite console! Wish all of you guys a happy new year!
  17. New to the forum and to the topic in general. The console was given to me by a friend, it comes loaded with some version of Unleash X. I have been trying to connect via FTP to load more games (DVD reader is broken). Sadly i don't know the credentials and not finding any way inside the dashboard to go to the config.xml file to get them. I read about FATXplorer so I guess that if I don't find any alternative from inside. I can always just plug in and look for the file on my PC but I will like to avoid buying all the adapters just for a one time use. Couple of pics from the menus that I can access (In Spanish lol) https://ibb.co/XWMmkfn https://ibb.co/C8GHv9J https://ibb.co/kJ0y2tF
  18. I put together a package with all the software needed. I also included the SVF file generated by ISE's impact. This is now the easiest method for programming OpenXenium's CPLD chip. After setup, it's just one click. Merry Christmas and enjoy! https://sites.google.com/view/xc9500xl-with-openocd-ft232r/home
  19. Looking for the best graphics games for Xbox, something I should not miss to play (but not just graphics, also balanced gameplay... nothing like Splinter Cell games for example, that has good graphics but awful gameplay)
  20. Hi there! I'm brand new to this board and looking to do my first mod chip install on a v1 that was given to me a few years ago. Back then I grabbed a DuoX2 but never got around to installing it. Well the time has come, and I've dug out the Xbox and found the mod chip... still sealed in the anti-static bag... but I'm wondering if I should stick with the Duo X2 GS. I'm wondering if it might be better to go with an Aladdin Advance XT Modchip PLUS2 or Open Xenium. Is there a benefit to either one over the Duo? Thanks!
  21. It's possible to unlock and relock the Seagate HDD over the COM port. I wrote up some instructions and a python script to automate the process. Files and instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X9YJdMUA1vZKSTEyvfA2OhaHScy0f6wzLk0nE7q9vLw/edit?usp=sharing
  22. Hi I bought a classic Xbox that has a power problem. The seller told me he had mistakenly connected the console to a 220V source. the type of PSU is Foxlink 1-row. Unfortunately, 4 pieces on the power board are apparently damaged, and I do not know the name and capacity of the two electronic pieces. Also, I could not recognize the value of a resistance due to the color change. I put some pictures of these pieces .If possible, please guide me to identify these pieces. Thanks
  23. Hello everyone, just got myself another Xbox a couple weeks ago, 1.6 with a dead DVD Drive, $15 for console, cords, 2 S-Controllers (no breakaways ) and 2 games (FIFA 07 and Halo 3, lol) I stumbled upon my copy of Mechassault I had stashed hopped online for a USB to XBOX adapter, and a Duke controller $20. Softmodded with Rocky5s installer! My DVD drive problem was solved by a friend who let me swap drives temporarily in exchange for modding his system. Rummaged through my old HDDs (no ide sadly, but!) I found a 2TB 3.5 drive lying about. Ordered a SATA to IDE adapter and an 80wire cable, now I have more games and emulators then I know what to do with anymore! lol Anyways, Thats the story of why I am here, to check out all the cool homebrew and troubleshoot anymore problems I stumble across in my journeys. Happy gaming guys, and long live the lil(Big?) black box! P.S. For anyone who might be familiar with my name, I was once a quite active member of the now dead isoZone. Hello especially to all of you that are still around the homebrew scene!
  24. Hello all. It's been a long time since I visited the old Xbox. I've modded quite a few back in the day and recently acquired a couple a few days ago in a box along with about 5 PS2s. I kinda got a little excited being as I haven't touched either one of them for several years. I had read about soft modding and wanted to try it since it didn't require any hardware or tools as I had gotten rid of everything I had. Well once I fired up the boxes I found both of them had hdd and dvd issues. I opened them up and, ..ugh. Both of them were 1.6b. Anyway, I jumped online and ordered a couple of Aladdin XT chips. It's slowed me down but has given me the time to look the forums over. I'm getting the itch back! I don't think the wife is going to like this all over again. Anyway I just wanted to say hi to everyone.
  25. i know there was a trick to reflow the gpu on a redring'ing 360 with a heatgun. would that work on an og xbox that needs the gpu to be reflowed?
