  1. I received a DVT-5 development kit that has been owned by Rebecca Heineman since the days she was actively working as a game developer. She has along history of gaming involvement and development. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1826380/ When I received the kit, it had been worked on previously. There was a hole punched in the SuperIO ribbon for some reason, and I had a ribbon on hand, so I replaced it. I cleaned the entire console after disassembling and then reassembled it. It had some tabs on the RF shield that were bent to oblivion so I had to straighten those to even get the lid on, which was not bolted down at all, and in fact some bolts were missing entirely. The IO cards were not seated properly and were at odd angles. Thankfully, everything else was okay. Except that it didn't boot to anything but a black screen. Based on the symptoms, it sounded like a coma console. So I asked her to send it to me and see if I could find out if this was true. I grounded A18 first, which was a FRAG, so then I grounded A19 (TSOP Splitting Method) and I got it to boot, so I ran the latest recovery disc and, after releasing A19 from ground, flashed the bios. I was then able to boot the console without bank splitting and could finally reassemble it. This is her personal development kit and she will probably leave it in her will or be buried with it. She will actually dev with it, not let it sit on a shelf. I'm glad that I could bring something that has sentimental value to her back to original condition and leave her with a gift inside to make it unique. -Completely deep cleaned and then reassembled casing and parts. -Added activity light prototype and mounted the front panel board inside of the front panel, which looks pretty clean and keeps a stock outward appearance. -Repaired corrupt TSOP and installed latest dashboard. -Straightened things out and made sure IO cards were seated properly. -Straightened RF shield. Original Condition, externally anyway. Cleaning things up. Sorry for the lack of photos. Everything got scrubbed/brushed with simple green crystal and rinsed off, the motherboard, daughterboard, IO cards, PSU and all casing. Everything in before the bays get put in. With everything inside. The cables were organized better. This is the only pic I took. Put together and ready to rock.
  2. Hello Everyone I am new to the community and need some guidance in restoring and modding an original Xbox for a nostalgia gaming project. I recently discovered my old Xbox; which I had not used in years; and I am delighted to bring it back to life; both for nostalgic reasons and to revisit some of the great games that were a significant part of my growing up. My goal is to restore the console to full functionality while also adding some changes to maximize its capabilities. Restoration Process It is turning on; but the electricity occasionally cuts out at random. I've read of potential power supply or capacitor concerns with earlier models. Do you have any experience replacing capacitors on the original Xbox? Are there any common failure points to look out for? The disk drive is having trouble reading game discs consistently. Is it worth attempting to fix or clean the lens, or should you hunt for a replacement drive? Any tips for cleaning and polishing the casing without breaking the original hardware? The surface bears some scrapes and marks from years of use. Modding for Enhanced Functionality: I have read about both alternatives; but I am not sure which is better suited to my goals. I do not need anything too complicated; I am just interested in running backup games and emulators. Which modification solution do you recommend for a simple and hassle free experience? I have heard that increasing the hard drive is one of the best tweaks you can do to the original Xbox. Are there any hard disks you recommend that are both suitable and trustworthy for this purpose? I am considering installing a bigger drive so that I may store games and movies directly on the console. I've seen some excellent footage of early Xboxes running emulators for various old systems. What is the best method to put this up; and which emulators would you recommend? Any recommendations for improving the performance of these emulators on original Xbox hardware? Controller Recommendations: My old controllers are really worn out. Are there any new alternatives that feel as good or better than the original Duke or S-type controllers? Or would it be preferable to restore the ones I already own? Also I explored some topics related to this https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/16385-xbox-14-aladdevopsonlinetraining-xt-plus2-cerbios-242-frag-falshing-green-orange-no-video-output/#comment-75560 but I did not get the sufficient solution of my query so I would really want to get some help from a more experienced person I would like to hear from anyone who has gone through this procedure or has expertise modding and restoring early Xbox consoles. Any suggestions, resources, or tutorials would be highly appreciated. I am delighted to return to the Xbox scene and bring this ancient treasure back to life Thank you in advance for any help and advice you may provide.
  3. I got an Xecuter 3 box and it's in perfect, brand new condition. It's just missing a control panel. Luckily, I have one Also managed to find a NOS XLCD for the panel! Might need some tips on how to re-condition the Control Panel plastic though, if I can... This Control Panel 's seen some shit. And I have to 3D resin print the buttons, as you can see. But I have a resin printer now. LucEEEE!! You got some 'Storin to do. ...Weeeeeh! _---------------------- On an unrelated note I now have a SHITLOAD of RAM. Lol.
  4. Hi Everyone, So I've recently picked up a 1.0 Xbox. The outer shell is intact but doesn't have a certain luster to it. It looks really dull. I wanted to know, has anyone tried to restore the luster of the Xbox. My Xbox is simply an original black colored Xbox. I'm trying to avoid spray painting it and was think of using some sort of restoration paste/cream/spray. I'm not to sure if something like that exists or what would be best for the Xbox. Also, I really want to just focus on the top X and not the ridges. They look okay. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
