  1. Insignia is looking good, MVG has uploaded the video below reporting on the latest and he's been TESTING on a closed beta over the weekend. Hopefully not to long now before we can all go killing each other online again MVG Video here :)
  2. I have a wierd issue with one of my Xbox consoles. It's a 1.6 softmod, I purchased it pre-modded and it came with 'Slayer's custom' softmod installed. Recently I've been having an issue with a couple of PAL games running too fast in NTSC mode, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and Timesplitters 2. I've never has this problem with these games before, so I tried changing the video from NTSC 480p to PAL 480i but the console seems to be stuck in 480p mode, even though in video settings it's unticked. If I plug in an RGB SCART cable this does force the console to output at 480i and the games no longer run fast, but when I plug my component cable back in the console remains stuck in 480p. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm wondering if I should reinstall the soft mod, I have Rocky5 softmod disc burned but i'm not sure if this would mess things up as a different softmod is already installed?
  3. I got an 1.6 xbox softmoded and I want to install an aladdin chip. Is there any possibility Softmod interfeer with modchip? Am I good to do it?
  4. It's possible to unlock and relock the Seagate HDD over the COM port. I wrote up some instructions and a python script to automate the process. Files and instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X9YJdMUA1vZKSTEyvfA2OhaHScy0f6wzLk0nE7q9vLw/edit?usp=sharing
  5. Hello, I am new to the original Xbox community (Recently picked up a 1.0 and am working on getting it modded) and was wondering if there are any benefits of having a modchip over TSOP Flashing. I know that 1.6 rev. boards need a chip to be hard modded but I've also scene people install LCD's of the front of their chipped consoles, so I was curious as to what kind of info gets displayed on em, and if there are any other chip-exclusive functions.
  6. How would one go about this? Just simply drag and drop and replace the files? I bought an Xbox with XBMC4Gamers installed. It boots up to XBMC4gamers and is on the latest version. Thanks!
  7. i haven't seen any difference. is there any reason to use one over the other?
  8. Can XBOX games be read in RAR format or do they need to be ISO format in order to transfer over by QWIX? OR can they be transfered over in another way to FTP and keep in RAR format and the XBOX can read it?
  9. Hello, I recently got two broken Xboxes and was able to build a working console from both. The Xbox has a softmod and I'm thinking about flashing the bios. How do I do that best? It is a XBOX version 1.4 (Winbond) and I would like to transfer everything via FTP, because I don't have a DVD burner. I have read something about HeXEn and Tsop but I am now rather confused. Can I also bottle the Bios over FTP, if so how? Do I have to remove the softmod and is it still possible via FTP after flashing? Thanks in advance.
  10. Hey everyone, I started ripping my games to my HDD (stock) using DVD2Xbox and then FTPing them over to my PC. I ran into the first game in my library, though, that is too large to fit on the stock HDD (Jade Empire). I'm planning on upgrading the HDD at some point anyway, but for now I figured I would use the "Copy DVD/CD to Samba share" feature of DVD2Xbox so that I can just rip it over the network to my PC. I have created a shared folder on my Windows 10 PC and made sure all of the appropriate network sharing/permissions options are set. I updated the DVD2Xbox config XML with the shared folder information. When I try to begin ripping the disc, though, I receive an error: "ACL processing is not supported over SMB." I tried going to the DVD2Xbox settings and setting General/Enable ACL Processing to "No", but no luck. I have tried searching online for a solution to this for some time, but have only found a few relevant threads. Of course they all end with someone saying "I fixed it," but nothing else. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there a setting on my Xbox or PC that I need to change? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Patrick
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyfbxuMgI4M&t=480sHello everyone! First post, and happy to be here. I want to share something that will add value to the community. I've put together a video tutorial on how you can install games directly to the XBOX HDD through the internet and FTP. All you'll need is your softmodded XBOX, an Ethernet cable, and the HDD Ready games you want on the HDD. You'll be up and running with it in no time. Full how-to video is below. Please let me know if this video helps you so that I can make XBOX content that makes your gaming experience more enjoyable. Thanks, Blaine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyfbxuMgI4M&t=480s
  12. I know this group has a lot of new HDMI solutions recently, and has focused on the wii2hdmi mods. ( and I know there are more options coming in the near future) Here's a new option for you....I've recently finalized a completely new design (it's been in the works since christmas, but I'm pleased to announce that it is now completely functional) -supports component to HDMI conversion at all supported xbox video resolutions -Wolfson Audio IC to convert S/PDIF signal for the HDMI transmitter -Individually shielded video signals -Internal install will be an option There are two basic ways to take advantage of the digital audio 1)Direct decoding when passed through an HDMI receiver 2)Optical pass through from your TV to you receiver 3) it can also pass the stereo audio to play directly on your TV Sales are probably about a month out still, as I will be sending units out to a few trusted testers and get testing done with some of those problematic xbox systems that are around. https://imgur.com/a/QXP6lcM https://www.chimericsystems.com/product/hdmi-video-adapter
  13. So my friend and I are trying to replace the front panel LEDs with RGB LEDs using a separate microcontroller. We were able to read the status from the current front panel so we can react to error codes properly, so it isn't just a "dumb" LED replacement with an external controller. Our next goal was to send commands over the SMBus to the Arduino (Nano, ATmega328P) we use to control the RGB LEDs. I customized the XBMC code to send data to the new address I defined for the Arduino, in our case we used 0xE9. Since the Wire library of the Arduino already shifts the bits, we set the Arduino's address to 0xE9 too. The thing is, the Xbox sends the signal, but the Arduino isn't reacting to the given address. We already tried to analyze the signal and we can confirm that there is data being sent through the SMBus. OFC we wired up SDA and SCL correctly, we checked twice and since the logic analyzer is able to sniff data, it should be correct. Has anyone ever tried this yet? I've seen a couple of threads talking about controlling Ambilight over the SMBus but it seems like nobody has tried it yet. I guess we are doing something wrong, but we haven't yet figured out what it is that we are missing. Next thing would be buying a proper logic analyzer, but maybe somebody here has some experience and could lead us in the right direction before we spend the money. Is there any more documentation on the SMBus of the Xbox out there? I've just found the documented stuff on the xboxdevwiki. Thanks in advance!
  14. I thought that all of the original Xbox forums online were all gone/dead. It's great to see that there are still active ones to be found! For my first post I wanted to share one of my first Xbox consoles I modded. Its nothing special, just something designed to be used at events where hundreds gather where I wont be afraid to have any number of random visitors using it. The Xbox itself is simply softmodded and it has been reworked to use a 2.5" SATA HDD. From the 120gb it now houses coinops and a number of modded Halo, Timesplitter and Battlefront games. The idea is a very multiplayer friendly console that is intuitive to use. While it has an XBMC dash, it boots directly into coinops so any number of people can use it without having to ask what to do. Before I upgraded the HDD I took a snap of the original guts while I was working on the console. The HDD is sitting on a spacer above the motherboard to allow for increased airflow, done after the capacitors were rewired and replaced. For fans I am using a Sunon for exhaust and the famous Iceberq 4 for the chipset. The PSU has been wired externally similar to a laptop. While I could have used a picopsu, this defeats the purpose of the console being cheap, easy and worry free with strangers using it. It's nothing fancy. But it looks great, its robust, it doesn't overheat after 12+ hour sessions, I have very little money invested in it and I built it so I wouldn't be afraid of strangers mashing on it.
  15. Hi everyone, I just introduced myself in the "new members" section. And now I have a bunch of questions covering different topics. I have a softmodded XBOX that I modded like ten years ago. I do not remember what softmod, what exploit, did I tsop-flash...? My setup is as follows: XBOX 1.2-1.5, 2.5"Sata-hdd, laptop-dvd-drive, VGA-connector on the back with a DIP-switch to choose vga-video-mode (so obviously i did a tsop-flash?), and usb-connectors on port 3 and 4. Everything is running again after some major issues. The box is booting to xbmc 3.0 and I can watch movies and play games from HDD (I can not find my game-dvds). But since I can not remember what softmod is installed, or what bios is flashed I want to start over. I only want to keep my games from the HDD. My plans are as follows: backup games via FTP, backup eeprom, install a new softmod, NULL the hdd-code, ( I may want to upgrade the 160GB hdd at some point), rebuild the HDD from scratch, install the latest XBMC is this the best order? what are the best methods for doing so? what software do I need (Tool-DVDs ?)
  16. Thought I would ask this question here as I ran into this the other night while using a few consoles as guinea pigs for testing a few things. I've been familiarizing myself with the process of cloning drives using Chimp 261812 and have successfully done two with no issues - one on a softmodded console and the other on a hardmodded console. However I noticed Chimp 261812 on Rocky5's Extras Disc works perfectly fine with my component cables. Chimp 261812 on HeXEn (specifically 2018 when I tried it) would cut to black and not display anything on my setup after I pressed "A" after hooking up the slave hard drive. I restarted the process on the HeXEn build using composite cables as opposed to component and had no issues. Is this common? Has anyone tested Chimp 261812 over component cables with 480p/720p/1080i disabled as well? I was going to do that last night but forgot about it.
  17. My younger brother gave me his Xbox in 03-04 because you had to slap it just right to get the drive to open. I took it apart to try and repair it without success. It's a little unique since the problem is a little piece that guides the drive snapped off. So when the motor first pulls the tray, it tugs unevenly and needs a little push. This lead me to modchipping it so I could copy a couple games onto the HDD (Fable, mainly). I also put a couple early emulators on, and when XBMC first came out I found it pretty interesting. A rekindled interest in Emulation has brought me back to the Xbox. I'm currently attempting to upgrade to a 2tb HDD and adding two more RAM chips.
