  1. where to solder ground? To DC return? 5v - pin 1 data - pin 6 ground - pin 24?
  2. Before you ask, yes I'm aware this is kind of a stupid question since you can just load Xbox games right from the hard drive. I also understand that any standard CD-ROM drive will also work in an Xbox. Don't read too much into "why would you want to do this". There isn't a really compelling reason. Now that that's out of the way... Has anyone had success with any sort of optical drive emulators in an original Xbox? There seems to be a few projects floating around out there made by people who wanted to replace optical IDE drives for certain obscure arcade cabinets and old PCs... There's an "IDE Simulator" by Tattiebogle that runs for a whopping $200. There's the NetPi, which uses a RaspberryPi as an ODD emulator, but isn't fully developed yet. There's plenty of IDE to SD (or CF) adapters, but that would just appear as a 2nd hard drive to the Xbox, which as we all know doesn't work (outside of Chimp). SCSI2SD - SCSI isn't IDE, but perhaps an adapter could be used? There's this project on Vagons.org where a guy is working on an ODD emulator, but it's still in development Memkor apparently makes (made?) a product like this, but I don't see it directly for sale anywhere. But I'm wondering if anyone has tried using something like one of these devices in an Xbox. The official DVT kits had optical drive emulation built-in from the factory- official Microsoft parts and everything (technically outsourced, but still). This route however has a pretty high bar for entry: the DVT kit itself + a Raptor PCI card + obscure drivers (which I assume only work for Windows XP) + the software and know-how to use it all. I recently bought a DVT4 kit and want to experiment with this feature purely because I find it fascinating. We'll see how that goes.
  3. Hi folks, I know what you're gonna say. And you're probably right... but... I've just dropped about £50 (inc delivery) on a ZALMAN ZM-VE200 SE... This is a hard drive caddy, USB powered, with eSATA data connection, that will spoof as an optical drive, and let you mount .iso files stored on an internal SATA drive. It was probably a waste of money, and my 2TB drive is perfectly happy... BUT I wanna give it a go! Hardmodded, running EvoX m8+ (with LBA48 and F&G). eSATA to sata (HDD gender not mobo gender) cable ordered. Gonna use a SATA to IDE adapter (with a SLAVE switch). Gonna try leaving the OGXbox DVD drive in place (with a Xbox disc in the drive, just disconnect the IDE), and connecting the IDE to the Zalman (via the eSATA to SATA, SATA to IDE SLAVE adapter - yuk!) I'm gonna power the SATA to IDE adapter via a molex splitter, and power the ZALMAN via an external USB brick. It probably won't work, but... it... might???????? What's your thoughts anyone? Wish me luck - I'll report back in a couple of months when all the cables and crap arrive from China into brexit-bound UK and when I get a couple of hours away from real life to mess around with it all...

  5. First, do the tv play the video compenents (in) and the audio optical (in) at the same time if the connections are not the same and at the same place back to the tv ? - This cable on ebay output 6 compenents and one optical really or somme are optional only and not working at the same time ? :https://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/274451042904?ul_noapp=true I can not teste myself. I don't have connection S or optical. So I will need to buy tv or buy adaptator.
  6. I have the big green monster cable microsoft but i'm searching for the missing cable of the optical output. ( Do not see light trought the connection of the optical, so it is broken ?) I am searching for the official microsoft component + optical ( to compare) if you have too, but they are easy to find on ebay.
  7. I'm kinda new to this forum and was wondering if someone has managed to mod a cable to incorporate both HDMI and Optical SPDIF? I own a softmodded Xbox but would like to start improving it bit by bit, and what's first on my list is having both HDMI and Optical Audio (Coaxial would work too)
  8. Hi. I ordered a Monster Cable Lightwave 100X Optical Cable from eStarland to connect to the Monster Cable component cable I also purchased for the original Xbox but the dunces sent me just the 10' Monster Cable optical cable and no toslink adapter to connect it to the component cable so I can get 5.1 surround sound with my OGXbox. Is this a standard toslink adapter that is readily available or is it one of Monster Cable's proprietary monsters? In either case, where can I get one? Thanks for any help. ETA: added photo of what the toslink adapter looks like, btw.
