About Me

  1. Hi all! I think I'm in the right place. First bought this awesome console back in May 2002 as a gift to myself for finishing college (4 years late but I finished!) Became a big video game fan on and off ever since. Having this in 02 made me buy a PS2 as a birthday gift that summer. I'm a Sony and MS game console guy. Just recently picked up my OG Xbox from ebay and now I watched some videos to take it apart. I got a 1.6 and wanted to check how its guts look. I want to post pics to get opinions or a diagnosis from you experst if I should go any further with taking it apart. It's playing fine and hooked up to my 1080p Vizio via HDMI. Hope to talk to some of you and get some direction where to post my pics. Thanks!
  2. Hi all. I used to have a modded box like 10 years ago. Just recently picked up another one and am scrambling for faq's and how-to's to relearn. Been digging through the forums for a day now. Does anybody have a "for dummies" writeup to give me a refresher course on the different chips and options, and(more specifically) how to get things set up and working after the chip install as far as bios and dashboards etc?
  3. hey to all, i used to mess around xbox some many years ago and now a friend brought me a v1.1 to fix and old memories came. looking fw to remember the old and discover the newest options for xbox
  4. Hope all are well, Appreciate finding this forum as i recently found my V1.0 original Xbox and have quickly descended into a rabbit hole. I will be here for a while, just got 3 more OGs from coworkers. What a project! Thanks to the mods for setting this up!
  5. Hey everyone, I recently rediscovered my old Xbox(es) and seem to have ended up here, somehow. My Xboxes consist of a working v1.4 and a broken v1.2. I've been restoring the v1.4 to it's former glory (and beyond). What amazes me is that so much has happened since I archived these boxes, it's amazing seeing the community still alive and kickin'! And who knew the clock capacitor would turn out to have leaky gut? Wish I had known it sooner. It's a shame I didn't keep a journal on my Xbox work in the past, would be interesting to reflect what I did to them. But the traces on the motherboards and cases at least tell a story. A bit of backstory. My first Xbox was the v1.2 and after probably screwing up some softmods and the like, got an Aladdin modchip for it. Not long after I was primarily running Linux on it and even did a RAM upgrade. This is also how I got into Gentoo (thanks ShALLaX!). I don't remember why but I ended up removing the extra RAM. Didn't have a hot air station back then so I did it one leg at a time. I also recall trying to put the Xbox in a computer case and shocking myself on the exposed, powered on, PSU . At some point the v1.2, probably due to some stoopid, broke down (powers on by itself and gives no image). As a result I got myself a v1.4 and a SmartXX LT OPX modchip with the solder-less adapter. In the case modding department I seem to have been quite the vandal... young me equipped with an 'el cheapo dremel. What could go wrong? From the looks of big hole on the back of the v1.2 case, I had probably planned or tried to do some AV mod or some such, top part looks like I had tried to fit a side-fan, etc. My other case is pretty neat though, I've made a hole in the top, under the logo with proper machinery (hooray for school) and sanded the green to create a transparent jewel. The only slightly annoying part is that I seem to have done some dremel damage on the back (outside), behind the fan . Probably trying to fit some sort of switch. Anyway, fast-forward to today, and here's what I've done so far: De-dusted everything with compressed air Remove clock capacitor and clean up properly Replace thermal paste with Arctic MX 4 for both CPU and GPU Replaced hacky 80mm fan mod (with LEDs) and cannibalized HDD tray with stock fan (temporary) and a pristine tray Replaced old Maxtor 120GB with a random 2TB Seagate SATA drive from my shelve of stuffs (went with Startech adapter) Replaced stock IDE cable with 80-wire IDE cable (detached and moved the DVD connector) Opened up and cleaned the Samsung DVD drive, applied some lubricant (it still occasionally "sticks" when trying to close and needs a nudge) Upgraded the SmartXX firmware from 3406 to 3408 (the last one they released, albeit a "beta") Switched to iND-BiOS 5003.67 (no clue what I used before, probably a modified EvoX, the boot sequence was just pure black ) Tried out XBMC4Gamers (pretty cool) What I'm still looking to do: Create and 3D print a fan mount for a 60mm fan (more readily available than 70mm) SSD disk (eventually, mainly for durability and noise reduction) Controller port LEDs Wireless controller, either home made wireless mod for original Xbox controller (S) or use og360 Remote power on / off (preferably via wireless controller) Find a pristine bottom case for the Xbox Salvage RAM from v1.2 board and upgrade to 128MB (again, hello 15 years ago) Illuminate my transparent Xbox jewel with LEDs (maybe) Dare I say, OGXboxHDMI!! My Xbox is alive and kickin', happy to be here and let's keep the Xbox awesome!
  6. Hi all, when moving house I found my old pride and joy modded xbox. Big hdd, xecuter 3 chip and lcd screen. I fired it up and after blowing of the cobwebs it still looks great.
  7. I want to share my dashboards for free, can i do that? And If yes how? Also may have some Roms and things old school ones for free , if yes how? Do I do it on the forum Thanks sorry I'm learning this is my First community I've joined and i want to help out
  8. Hi there! My xbox was modded when I was still a kid and has been resting in peace since around 2010. Now that I've been doing a lot more technical stuff I want to dive back in and found this forum through reddit. I love that you have all this stuff gathered here as I wouldn't know where to begin if it weren't for you. Kind regards, Tadsz Edit: I was looking to grab some downloads but it says I'm not permitted. Are there some rules to this? Where can I find these?
  9. Hi - I recently updated my hard drive using HDM v 1.9 and it is now ready to mod - I have two options 1. Since I have all the files from back in the day to use Splinter Cell the SID I could mod it easily then I can use put Rocky 5 over it using the Rocky 5 disk. OR 2. Go to the trouble of setting up Rocky 5 Memory card mod -using a flash drive and Splinter Cell - have all the leads from back in the day and recently downloaded all the files and software needed. My question is does it matter if I choose the lazy option (number 1 above) or since I'm starting afresh with a new drive should I take the Option 2 route? Thanks in advance
  10. Hi, So I have an old mod chipped Xbox. I threw in a 500 gb drive and have it setup, but the build is old and crappy. lol How would I go about updating the build? I've softmodded a bunch of systems with the JRocky 5 softmod but the TSOP/ Chipped systems I'm just learning now. The dashboard setup that hexen 2018 did I really dont like, I much prefer the JCRocky5 dashboard setup with emulators and games etc. showing on the first screen. Is there any way to set it up like this? Like I said I'm a noob with the modchip setups. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Guys.
  11. Hi , I was a regular on the old xbox scene forums, mainly in the hardware/case mods section. Looking to get back into it so very happy to find this site
  12. Hi everyone! I am absolutely thrilled that the original XBOX scene is still alive! I modded a bunch of XBOXs back in the day and I kept one of them. It's a nice crystal XBOX with an X3 (with a 1MB 3294 BIOS) and the nice LED control panel. I don't know why but back then I put a version 1.1 mobo in the crystal case. Back then a popular addition was a little fan underneath the HDD when you did an IDE HDD upgrade so it still has one of those still. (Nobody does that these days?) The other day I started it up and it was okay but it froze on a half a dozen or so games. At a closer glance, some of the file or folder names had some funky symbols so I thought to myself that I better replace the aging HDD. I'm so happy to see the new hardware available. I ordered a nice 80-wire cable and the SATA to IDE adapter and that arrived today. I didn't have a single DVD-R in the house so I couldn't do the HDD installation easily. Sure, hooking everything up was a charm. I did a quick cleaning of the interior of the case and removed the clock cap. Started it back up and I could only use the X3 BIOS to handle the HDD prep. I had to use the X3 BIOS to FTP the new dash. That was terrible but it worked in the end. Huge problem trying to get the partition correct. I recently flashed a bunch of different (and recommended) BIOSes and when I switched from one to another, it deleted what I had on the HDD and the partition size was different. All BIOSes that I selected, to my knowledge, supported LBA48. I used XBpartitioner 1.3 and also tried XBPTableWriter to write the table for those BIOSes that needed it. It looks good right now but I'm hesitant to change to a different bank to try a different BIOS. Anyways, in the near future, I'm doing that Noctua 80mm silent fan installation and I'll replace the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU. Glad to be here! Cheers!
  13. Hey everyone if any of you guys have some old uncommon xbox hardware or mod chips and guides please post me a link or send some pictures cause i am doing another update to the google drive thx guys.
  14. Today I worked on taking apart controllers and cleaning them up. I figured while I was at it I would go ahead and take apart and clean up my remote power button and USB adapter mod too. I made this probably about 12 years ago. I took an Xbox Live communicator apart and replaced the circuit board with a simple breadboard from Radio Shack. I put a USB port where the volume knob used to be and a switch under the mute button. I modded my Xbox with the yellow wire remote power button mod so I wired up the switch as the remote power button. The nice thing about modding this communicator is that I can plug it into any controller and have a remote power button without modding the controller itself. It is also great for softmodding systems by plugging a USB drive directly into the communicator instead of making a USB adapter cable that I would have to search for whenever I work on modding a system.
  15. I have an xbox v1.6 that i had modded with the white X2 duo GS probably 12 years ago that worked flawlessly. Well i put it in storage and took it out maybe a year ago and the HDD died and i could not get it to boot from either of the banks on the chip, both just make it turn on and off. The xbox is softmodded now with a new HDD but i really want to get this chip working again. does anyone have any ideas to get a bios back on it or why it might have just died from not being used? i also have two other xbox systems, one of them v1.4 that i just did the tsop flash for the first time using this page and that worked great and i have another that is either 1.2-1.5 that is softmodded but not yet tsop flashed. can i use them to flash it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hello all! here is my Softmod Tutorial...! Originally made in 2006, uploaded to torrents, updated and reborn in 2018 as an OGXbox.com Exclusive! anywhore... its written in an easy to follow "noob-blog-style" just in case you are wondering why its so lame... UPDATING FILES FOR DOWNLOAD!! also additionally here are some essential xbox tools for modding/softmodding that are extremely hard to find these days due to most xbox scene sites and forums being dead. I have had them for over 12 years on a unused backup drive. UPDATING FILES FOR DOWNLOAD!! As always all files have been scanned for security threats by VirusTotal.com to rule out any contamination, with the exception of one false-positive in "Xplorer360 v0.9 Beta 6.zip". ** Keep in mind that these tools were made on and for xp/7 32bit windows, they may or may not work or work properly on 32 or 64 bit win 7/8/10, I recommend win xp/7 32bit virtual installation via VMware or virtualbox. Enjoy!
  17. Ok here is the story. My brother just gave me his old xbox. It has been hard modded a while ago. It is a version 1.4 with a windbond TSOP. It is currently running Evolution x 3921. I have installed bios checker 5.0 and it says the bios is unknown. Also the MS dashboard can not be loaded. I would love to update this. What would be the order to do this. I read somewhere to run the krayzie one click soft mod installation, which would update the soft mod. Do I then just re-flash the tsop with the 256 EvoX M8+. I do have hexen 2017 disc. Thanks
  18. Hi everybody, first time here in SO long. I've had a modded Xbox since 2003 which I just turned back on after I heard out about the clock capacitor problem. Mine was ok (I was able to remove it and clean up alright) but having it back on I've found the hard drive to be quite loud and maybe not running so great. I wanted to replace the hard drive but I'm not sure if my old Chameleon modchip throws a wrench into the tutorials I've been looking at. If possible the method of hotswapping the DVD drive with the new HDD and cloning the original drive seems easiest. Any suggestions before I start fumbling through this are very much appreciated! And I have all the stats on my current setup if needed. Thanks so much for the help!!
