About Me

  1. Hi everyone. Recently I've been watching some ModernVintageGamer videos on YouTube and really wanted to get out of the drawer my old modchipped Xbox. It wasn t booting anymore because of a dvd reader failure(error 11 and 12) so I got a used xbox for spare parts off eBay,got the dvd player out of it and put it in my Xbox. The Xbox boots but it won't read even original disks. My question is how do I understand what modchip is installed? Can I run any sort of homebrew via USB and upgrade my HDD ? Thanks in advance.
  2. So i have got an xbox revision 1.0 for parts. Inside the motherboard was pretty much immaculate with non-leaked clock cap. Sadly the xbox just FRAGged. I did lots of troubleshooting including dumping the eeprom with raspberry pi, testing it with different psu or trying the TSOP bank split trick for coma console. I thought, that the TSOP must be faulty so i ordered aladdin xt. However the holes on 1.0 are filled with solder and hard to clean up. In the end, i soldered each leg of the pinheader individually. It looks ugly, but there are at least pretty wet solder joints and modchips do fit in it. Sadly it still frags. Images: I have: 1. Grounded the bottom d0 point 2. Grounded BT on the aladdin 3. Tested the aladdin in my 1.6 and then reflashing it with indbios 4. Replaced a R7D4 resistor i accidentally desoldered I also remember, there was possibly a short at Q7R1 part. I fixed it, but two pins next to each other are still shorted according to multimeter. The two pins are those closest to the Q in the Q7R1 marking (left down side on the bottom side picture)
  3. Hi, I just got a Xbox for 10€ (my second one ). It is modded and has this chip. Does anyone know what it is? Is it good, bad? Thanks!

  5. Hi all I was playing Black earlier (great game) and left it for a while, came back and it was frozen. Not too surprised. So a couple of restarts later and it's just getting worse. To the point where I can only get into XBMC for a minute or two, but can't launch a game without it freezing. At this point I can still hold the white button and get into the X3 boot menu. The power supply looks in a bad way, and I have an identical model lying around, so I swap it out and - no dice, pretty much the same thing as before. Try changing the hard drive: Acts up a lot, get one or two boots out of it before i'm back to square one again. Notice I can still boot into that blue screen where you can flash stuff, I figured maybe my BIOS had gone bad with all the freezes and restarts. Drop a new bios into a folder named C:/BIOS. Load back into the blue screen and manage to start flashing, gets about 3/4s of the way through and it just freezes again. At this point it's completely fucked, just fragging, occasionally it gets to the "X" BIOS screen. Absolutely heartbroken at this, it belonged to a friend of a friend who died in 2005 in a motorcycle accident. If anyone has any idea what could be up with it i'm all open to ideas or paying for repairs (UK) if someone really knows what they're doing. I really don't get it, I pretty much ruled out the HDD, i don't THINK it's the PSU since i replaced it and same again. Just don't know what's up with it. Won't boot into a Hexen 2019 disc I made either. Please help!!!!
  6. Hey everyone. I’m looking for a Duo X2 mod chip so I can bypass the BIOS on my debug unit. I’ve been researching the info in the forums and believe this is what I need to successfully boot my Debug and run the XDK recovery disc. The icing on the cake would be to find a Duo with the debug BIOS already flashed on It

  8. Hello all. I'm a new member of the forum and I have been playing around with the OG XBOx for a couple of years now. I never owned an XBOX before so my knowledge of the history is relatively limited. I do enjoy the versatility of the original XBOX, and I am amazed by the huge community and custom stuff that exists out there. Some of the machines I acquire (~40%) come with the modchip installed, but still have the original HDD. In the past, I removed the modchip because I could not find any info about it, and proceeded with a softmod, disk upgrade and so on. However, after I discovered this forum, I am having second thoughts and I am thinking maybe it is better to keep the modchip and follwo a differen approach. So, the question is, if there's an advanctage of the old modchips (probable Alladin II, I think) versus the more recent softmods. thank you very much in advance! Michalis
  9. I have a xbox 1.0 here that fragged the day I got it. I thought "oh HDD probably died I'll just install a modchip". Well after installing said modchip I'm still met with 3 power cycles and the red and green lights with no error codes. Ive checked my soldering, checked that D0 is grounded, checked all caps, I cleaned the board after removing the clock cap, inspected traces for any signs of trace rot. Are there any caps that could go that just wouldn't show any sign of swelling or leaking that could cause issues?
  10. I could use some guidance here as I'm feeling rather dumb. I see plenty of forum posts about how you can simply boot up an Xbox with a modchip (D0 grounded), swap modchips, and flash the 2nd modchip as a means of fixing a bad flash. I'm trying to do this with a Duo X2 Lite chip that has a bad bios flash on it and every time I go to flash it, the app I'm using says "flash write protected" or something similar. Basically, the end result is that it can't flash the Duo modchip that I swap in. I've tried several times using different timings and different flashing apps (chimp vs evolutionx). Is there some obvious step I'm missing here? Should I be booting from a disc (hexen)? Loading into a special/BFM bios first? D0 is grounded to a screw mount. I'm sure it's booting from LPC. I'm booting with an OpenXenium, then swapping in an X2 Duo Lite (bad bios flash). I flashed a debug BIOS onto it first to use on my DVT4 kit, then later I flashed Yoshihiro's debug bios (which I found out is not actually not meant for debug/dvt consoles). I then used the 5849_Recovery disc to try and flash the modchip back to the official debug bios, but that bios is 1MB in size (2 copies of the identical 512KB debug BIOS), whereas the Duo X2 Lite can only hold a 512KB BIOS. So I guess it failed part way through? I have other modchips, but they either aren't compatible with the MCPX2 found in dev/debug Xboxes or aren't big enough to hold the 512KB debug BIOS. I'm basically booting with OpenXenium, then getting to my dashboard (XBMC), then loading Chimp. If I swap the chips prior to Chimp starting, Chimp just fails to start. The Xbox just freezes on a black screen. If I swap the chips after Chimp loads, it says "flash not writable" (or similar message). Same experience with evolutionx. The BT point is soldered on the Duo X2 if that matters (to enable always-on mode). Any tips on what I'm doing wrong or steps to try? Is my X2 Duo just screwed? Should I be using a different modchip other than OpenXenium on first-boot for some reason? By the way, the whole reason I want to flash this Duo X2 is to get my DVT4 kit back up and running. It has a bad TSOP flash (came to me like that). I might skip all this and focus on figuring out how to fix the TSOP, since using the Duo is just a bandaid fix anyways. I've already tried splitting the TSOP and that didn't help so I'm not sure what to do next other than desolder the tsop and program is externally... and I don't have a hot-air rework station anymore, nor a programmer.
  11. I"m seeking advice on upgrading the Bios on my original Xbox due a larger hard drive installed which also needs a 32k cluster size. Therefore I'm after a better and known BIOS which has LBA48 (+137GB) and only enables partition6 (f:). Xbox info (Known) Console model: v1 (0a) Mod chip: Super Aladdin Live Hard drive WD 500GB (PATA) *NOS DVD: Thomson (yuck!) so little luck making it boot CD/DVDs Kernel Version: 1.0.4981.6 Current Bios: Unknown - possibility custom (Xecuter2 4981) Currently the xbox HD is formatted 16k cluster size and I am experiencing issues in relation to this and want it to be 32k. When I run XBPartitioner to correct this, it displays: Therefore I just need a more recent bios with LBA48 v2+ that also keeps other feature like In Game Reset (IGR) Which is why I'm asking this question to you. From my research I've learnt that for BIOS that enables partition #6 is labelled as x.06 for both partitions #6 and #7 is x.67. I've read that Aladdin (mod chips) will only take 256k (default). Inside the xbox is the Super Aladdin Live and know little about chip size or amount of banks as only I've found was on the knightdiscount website. Since my xbox possible has Xecuter2 4981, thought these would be go choice: Xecuter2 4983 however after looking at: I have been look a the All Retail Bios Information chart on this forum. All I know if I flash the wrong bios I'll have to re-flash it with hardware I just don't have. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hey guys, So I have a project where I was able to come in possession of what im assuming to be a original Xbox test kit motherboard. The reason I say this is because it is an xbox motherboard with an MCPX X2 as appose to the X3 and yet it only has 64mb of ram soldered to it. It also looks like one of the previous owners tried to run Hexen and flash a retail bios on it since the solder points have been connected. Since (I'm assuming) it has a retail bios loaded on it it wont boot due to the lack of hidden boot sector in the X2. Ive finally fixed some OpenXeniums ive been working on so I have access to a couple modchips that can fit 1mb bioses in them. I am wondering, with the lack of 128mb of ram on the board, does anyone know if the development bioses will still boot to a screen showing something at least like the startup animation? I would like to see if the board is at least still functional with a proper bios and not completely nuked since it is currently in a state of FRAG that I hope is due to a retail BIOS being flashed on there. Thanks

  14. Hello all, I am in the process of getting my old modded Xbox back up and running. It is a v1.6 xbox with a Xenium modchip in it. I am running into a problem. If I boot into the xenium dash, it doesn't register any controller input (I am using an aftermarket controller I couldn't find the actual Microsoft one). If I log into the xecutor dash instead, the controller works perfectly fine, no issues. Any ideas what could be going on? Not sure if it matters however the system does have a bad DVD disk drive in it, the board that the eject motor is on is somehow cracked in half and always reads open tray (still trying to find a replacement for cheap) could that have something to do with it? It just doesn't make sense to me that the controller works in the normal dashboard, just not the xenium one where you can lock/unlock the drive, pretty much the setup stuff for the modchip. Also, whenever I try to access the original legit Xbox dashboard, it will load up then pop up an error saying unable to connect to xbox live and it kicks me back to the executor dash.
  15. This is a guide for anyone out there who may have an old mod chipped system and decides they want to Flash the TSOP and get rid of the mod chip. For Xbox revisions 1.0 to 1.5 only. I've had my v1.1 Xbox since almost launch (in Australia) the box has served me well for over 17 years. Had it modded by a guy we found in the newspaper. Just some small maintenance along the journey - refurbish the DVD drive (Samsung), fix trace corrosion and remove the clock capacitor. Now it was time to say goodbye to the Aladdin Advance. This may not be the quickest way, but I think it would be one of the safest. Full backup of all partitions on my PC Backup of EEPROM (Through Evox Dash) - Send to PC Backup of HDD EEPROM through Config Magic(different to the Evox Backup?) - Send to PC Locked the HDD to the Xbox via ConfigMagic or Evox Dash etc Softmodded with Slayers 3.3 - C drive no virtual Removed Aladdin Advance mod chip - mine was soldered directly to MB so be careful when removing. I accidently broke off the C702 component and had to solder back on. Soldered the correct TSOP write points for my Xbox revision - For Reference https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20-tsop-flash-guide/ Checked BIOS with Bios checker on AutoInstallerDeluxe 4.5.3 TSOP confirmed writable. It will say 'TSOP?' up the top of the screen Ran TruHexen 2020, flash bios the correct BIOS to TSOP depending on revision - v1.0 & v1.1 can support up to 1MB Bios, v1.2-v1.5 can support 256KB Bios - M8 Plus.67 is safest Ran option 3.5.2 on TruHexen2020 - clean C after TSOP - To remove Softmod Reformatted F and G drives with XBpartioner 1.3 - ensuring they show the full and correct amount in File Explorer/Your dash of choice Delete contents of C and E partitions via FTP, and FTP over original C and E contents, reboot the Xbox FTP all F and G data back to the Xbox. For a video of the TSOP solder and flash process - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIw8k5areQg&t=126s Hopefully this will help someone in the future. Thanks

  17. Hi, thought I'd share a quick story about picking up a faulty xbox I got it to work easily by replacing the 5 x 1500uf capacitors (common fix) I was surprised to find a different modchip than the good old aladdin. It is an Apple-X VI which is supposed to have 2 x 512kb banks according to https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17-modchips-generation-3b-from-xbox-scenecom/ However I could not flash a bios any bigger than 256kb on each of the bank. Not a biggie as the onboard tsop can support 1mb. Booting from the onboard tsop by pressing the eject button and from the modchip by pressing the power button.

  19. Hello you all, I had an idea, that involved getting an Aladdin XT 4032, and replacing the Lattice chip with an LC4064V one. I was wondering, that after flashing the chip with a JTAG programmer, that the chip would function similarly to an Aladdin Xt 4064, or not. I don't want to go into this, and end up wasting a few dollars, because I didn't ask for help before doing this.
  20. So I have a v1.6 softmodded system currently. Do I need to uninstall my softmod if I want to install an Aladdin XT chip? I want to upgrade my system to a 2TB SATA drive. I'm convinced this would be safer for the Xbox's longevity. After I get the Aladdin installed, can I just swap to the 2TB drive, and use Hexen to format the drive as a fresh system?
  21. Hi; About two years ago I bought this used ModChip for 10 USD, but I really don't know what kind of Aladdin version is, It's my knowledge that Aladdin ModChips have a lot of versions so I need your help people to identify it, and if you can or have it, I need install instructions too, please, I remember that this chip can be compatible whit all motherboard versions of original Xbox, and I remember that actually we don't need too much points to install this kind of chip (Aladdin) to make all the steps for have a mod original Xbox because there's no more Xbox Live (for example) for this wonderful console, but I'm only speculating based in my memories, you're the experts, I really appreciate your help and time
  22. Hi I have installed my Aladdin xt today. I didn't expect to run into any issues as seems simple enough and I can solder small things neatly as I'm used to modifying car ECUs. I think where I have an issue is the d0 wire, none of the guides actually show it connected not can I find an image online. The guide I've followed seems to say connect the d0 point on the board to ground. I have done this I think. Please see my picture and it causes my Xbox to not boot just flashes red light. Please can someone help me with where it needs to connect to
  23. i did my 1st hard mod on a xbox today. i used an alladin modchip on a v1.4. the modchip wouldn't even go on because a cap was in the way so i heated the solder on the cap and leaned it back until it was hitting the cap behind it. now the modchip will go on but it is rubbing against the cap. i think it will eventually cause a problem. how can i fix this issue?
  24. Hi guys i just found my old xbox in the basement and by the look of things it looks like its hardmoded with a Xecuter chip and there is even a 120gb drive installed and all is working without any issues. My main question is if anyone here could help me identify what kind of Xecuter chip this is, because my plan is that i would like to replace the 120gb drive with a 1tb but im getting a LBA48 warning when i try to partition the new disk and its asking me to ugrade the current bios with a new one that supports LBA48. Current INFO: Bios: Xecuter2 4976.02 Kernel 1.00.5838.01 Xbox v1.1 What would be the best course of action, how should i approach the reflashing, what bios should i pick so that the new 1tb drive works as intended and ofcause what should i think about when i approach all this?
  25. Hello, I bought a modchipped Xbox rev1.0. I want to remove the clock capacitor and don't want the modchip to be stuck on a clock loop, so I would like to know how to safely update the bios on the modchip through a burned CD/DVD. I've seen things like Slayers Disc and Hexen, but I'm not entirely sure how to proceed after burning them, and I'm not sure how safe it is and I don't want to screw anything up. My modchip I think is the Aladdin onde, has if you hold the power button it boots an old version (as far as I can tell) of EvoX, which besides running burned media and the logo on boot, looks just like the MS dashboard. Any help much appreciated.
