  1. I’m having a difficult time finding a replacement flex cable connecting the laser to the pcb. Sumitomo G Awm 2896 80c Vw 1 20 Pin. If anyone has an old dead drive or can help me find this, I would greatly appreciate it.
  2. My 2005 XBox has an SDG-605F in it and it isn't reading discs. I cleaned the laser first. No go. Then, I adjusted the pot from 1247 down to around 560 in increments of about 100-150 at a time, and I've now given up. Is it possible that I just missed the point at which it will work? (That is, maybe I went to 720 from 850 but it would have worked at 785?) Any other ideas besides a wholesale swap-out? Thanks.
  3. Hi guys, I've got tons of Xbox originals over last 2 years and i always see the same problem with Samsung drives - they are not reading at all. Tweaking pot doesn't help. Laser beam is there, it is not weak. Lens is not dirty, tried to clean all of them. My guess was maybe these are capacitors on the drive board? The issues is i can't desolder them without tearing of the pads. Stupid, i know but really they are so fragile there or whatever is he reason. Plus I'm not sure on some of them in terms of specs. So, what do you think? 1. Can it be capacitors? something else? 2. If it is probably capacitors, anyone has all the ratings? Thanks!
  4. Which Xbox dvd drive uses top-60 laser? I found a lot of eBay and Ali express listings for the top-60 laser but without specifying which disc drive is compatible. What are your experiences buying refurb/new optical lasers for the Xbox?
  5. Hi, I just replaced my Philips VAD6011/21 Disc Laser Lens with a Disc Laser Lens for Xbox SPU-3141 Philips Microsoft original from ZedLabz https://www.ebay.com/itm/Disc-Laser-Lens-for-Xbox-SPU-3141-Philips-Microsoft-original-ZedLabz/333312052835?hash=item4d9af24e63:g:khoAAOSwGcpfEEyk Unfortunately it is still not reading my xbox games discs. I have the Rocky5 Softmod and it states a DVD drive status of "unknown". It seems like I did it correctly and desoldered those two points on the new Disc Laser Lens. Sometimes I will get the "Empty" status too. I tried Pot tweaks on the old laser and then that helped for a very short time so I bought the new laser after it stopped working. Any ideas? Thanks!
  6. i found some new lasers for phillips drives and bought some. these were brand new because i had to desolder the esd protection solder points on it. i replaced the laser in a drive that would not work at all and now it is working. however, it won't read any disks that have any kind of serious damage. my old samsung and hitachi will play them fine but they have to be almost perfect for my phillips to read them. i have heard about how phillips turn the laser strength down in an attempt to prevent the from reading cd-r disks(fyi, i'm only trying to read official xbox disks). my question is, should i adjust the pots on this new laser so that the laser is stronger? i've heard that will shorten the life of the laser but i'm wondering if they were even turned up high enough in the 1st place?
  7. haven't been able to find a vid of it. anyone know of one?
  8. I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks
  9. Hi Guys. Does anyone know where to buy a replacement laser for a Thompson drive and a Phillips drive? I have two XBOXs with bad drives. I have tried cleaning the laser with alcohol and adjusting the laser but they went from reading some games to reading no games. I have looked on Amazon and eBay but have not been able to find any. Are replacement lasers no longer available for these drives? What are you guys doing with these failed drives? Are you running your XBOX without a DVD drive? My concern with doing this is how would you reload with a disk like Hexen 2017 without a working DVD drive if you ever needed to?
  10. Was wondering if there is a part # that can be order off ebay or online for a replacement laser only ....for one of the 3 dvd drives? thanks frank
