About Me

  1. Reporting strait from the noughty step. I finished my first slim ever. It's nothing special from the outside but the inside rocks - i guess. Some mods which i have done to that poor helpless little thing: Sleeved all cables (Incl. a golden "The Dave Wire" (You can see it in one of the pictures behind the molex power connector)). Build a 2,5" HDD cage. LED mod (green). USB port mod. Chip mod. CPU & GPU fans added. 60mm case fan as replacement. Removed the open close dvd button and added an IR shild. Internal HDMI Mod (Yea one of those cheap Wii adapters but for me they work good enought). Slim case mod (Obvious). I have removed the elox of the CPU/GPU cooling blocks and polished them. Added a cooling block to the MCPX. ATA to IDE adapter + 80 wirde cable. 500GB 2,5" sata. Replaced some caps. Added a fan control for the CPU & GPU fan. (Even at full speed the xbox is much much less noisy as a stock xbox) Idle temps are now ~ 39°C which is fine for a slim i think. Finaly here are some pictures: So i hope you like it, comments are welcome.
  2. Hi all got several Sega games that I just can't get to load from my HDD. most notably Jest Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Gunvalkyrie. I know they all have an issues with the v.1.6 but I`m using a tsop V.1.4 with an up to date UnleashX as main dashboard. for each game I have tried different sources of ISO's and Redumps but all versions act the same way. the game Freezes on Sega logo (Jest Set) or when loading first level (Gunvalkyrie, Panzer) tried to load them trough different dashboards (XBMC4GAMERS, emustation etc) to no avail. been reading all relevant discussions and couldn't find another example of this problem, nor a solution, so it must be something with my console's configuration. any ideas? some pics of my board and settings https://photos.app.goo.gl/iEzaFfu6n2dcFvgp8 any help will be appreciated, been struggling with this for quite some time now. Tnx!
  3. just got one from goodwill it powers on as soon as its plugged it. i opened up and removed clock cap but still same thing. guess i gotta look for some bad traces now. wish me luck. trying to get my 6 and 8yr kids interested in it.
  4. Howdy all! So first tech Q. As some of you may know I recently have got a XBOX sent to me from a friend so I have been purchasing the extras controllers, cables etc. Anyways I brought a bundle of controllers that came with a xbox FOC! Now it was listed as working which it is but the DVD drive wont read disc's and it rattles! The seller packaged i very poorly so I suspect it was damaged in transit. Now other than that and the leaking clock cap (which I have pulled off and cleaned up) it seems to be fine, and looks like it has a mod chip installed? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IB92couhg9q7x4Nfi5Hkt9lNWHT_ATwL/view?usp=sharing So what I am wondering is do I have any options with this thing? I know I could replace the drive but I was wondering if there was a way I could use my other TSOP'd box to sort of build a HDD for it and put it in this one or some other way of transfering stuff to the HDD? It seems to have a stock dashboard on it and I obv cant use a hexen disc. Any thoughts appreciated as it seems a shame to side line it for the sakes of a dvd drive. Cheers.
  5. just wanted to say thanks to all those who helped me with info and downloads and stuff. i now have 2 healthy hard modded xbox's. i got about 90% of the info about how to mod them and also got several downloads from this forum. so thank u. mods, y'all may wanna delete this post after a few days since it's not really asking advice.
  6. is upgrading the hdd the main reason for doing a tsop flash/modchip? will a basic softmod allow me to ftp and install dlc and do basicly everything but upgrade the hdd?
  7. Hello, I just softmodded my Xbox I just got this week using Rocky5. I followed Mr.Mario11's softmod tutorial and every screen corresponded. I used the softmod tools extras kit and installed the Stock MS Dash 5960. Now when I put in a game disk, the xbox logo runs with sound and then the screen goes black when trying to load game disk(have tried different CDs). I tried to FTP a game to HDD. Xbox logo loads, am able to get rocky5 dash but game does not load(Have tried different games). When loading from HDD, xbox color of disk ejection is orange still. Xbox had not been opened, original HDD. I have tried different A/V cables. It always loads the first dashboard but not the second one. Does anyone know how to fix this?
  8. Hi. I just took out my old crystal xbox with xecuter 3 chip, so I can show my kids how it was for me, and see what has changed in the game-scene Sadly I keep getting the 07 HDD error, so I am going to install a new drive. Just popped in here, so I can figure out how to do it
  9. Hey everybody!! I hope you're having a fantastic day!!! I just opened up my XBOX V1.1 that, (18 years ago) I soldered a single core wire strand through from the back of the board to the top of the board. I cannot recall the specific tech that I was following from way way way back when, but I can't find any sort of photos online covering exactly what I was doing at the time!?? All I can remember from all of this memory delving is the phrase "If the bios is corrupted, then the TSOP will boot from backup", or something to that specific ilk. None of the TSOP bridging points are exacting the nature of what I did. The box was 100%%% operational to previous stock constraints, booting every time that I powered on, without a hitch, stutter or glitch, for about 4 years or so of operation. I did set the clock after each boot (which probably does mean that I still need to replace the clock capacitor), however I cannot see any specific electrolyte leakage on the board surrounding that capacitor, which is interesting. Anyway. I soldered to one specific junction on the back and taped the other end in place on the top - the tape has since disappeared along with the end of the wire that I was passing through the specific through port junction on the top of the board. I don't know where I was jumping the wire to. I can't find anyone doing this specific procedure concerning TSOP/General Repair at the current point? Is this an outmoded repair? Did people just stop doing this? What on earth was I doing? Anyway, the photos are attached, and I'm WILDLY interested to know what memories might be jogged from anyone's experience repairing the OG XBOX after seeing these photos.
  10. So I’m working on a portable Xbox briefcase thing. I have an arcade switch on the outside of the briefcase to turn on the tv and the Xbox at the same time. The Xbox is deconstructed and laid out like a test bench computer inside the briefcase and I was wondering if I could bypass with a jumper to have the Xbox turn on with power or does it need to be a momentary switch? I appreciate any help
  11. So i'm pulling whats left of this old mans hair out trying to simply get a good old game of gran turismo working or resident evil ....BUT NO pcsxbox is being difficult I've downloaded many versions and tried loading all the different .bin versions into the bios but it simply wont run anything. The application simply hangs and doesnt load any .bin or .cue i try to play. Some experienced help would be appreciated - I have triev version 22 b25 and redux version 21 and they both do the same thing - allow me to select the files but then nothing happens
  12. It was listed as faulty, that it hangs on the Xbox logo. After sitting thinking I wonder will it error, my brother said Microsoft appeared on the screen. Apparently it seems to work, it just takes ages to boot, and the problem seems to be with the disc drive itself. There's no signs of leakage from the clock cap either, so I should remove that before it goes. It's apparently another v1.1, and I plan to tsop it also. The main thing I need to do for now is give it a good cleaning and softmod it to get the eeprom. I don't trust the HDD because the spindle is whirring really loudly, so the eeprom is a priority, as is the clock cap. After changing the drive for a Thomson out of another console, it boots up normally. There must be something wrong with the actual PCB in the Samsung I got with it.
  13. So thats the thing, I just got my first original Xbox! I live in Chile and in here having something like this is very niche hehehe. Nevermind, I opened it, cleaned it, changed the thermal paste, replace the IDE cable for a 40 cable and bought a new controller, because it came with the controllers smashed. There is no modchip on it, because when I opened it up, I saw absolutely nothing. It has a 360 looking dashboard called XBMC360, according to the hardware info, it is a v1.6 Xbox, it has an Xcalibur video decoder, CPU runs at 731.55mhz. Detected retail BIOS is: 5838.01 Made in China, year 2005, week 25, line 5. XBMC pre-2.1 (compiled: May 27 2007) Mplayer XBMC-SVN-r8532 (May 25 2007) I am not asking to give a me tutorial on how to install another HDD (which I will as it has a 40GB Maxtor) I just one to know the basics you know? Why so many partitions on the HDD? What is the main software that runs a modded Xbox? What is a skin? That is it! The rest I will try to find on my own, I just want to know the "basics". Thank you guys, I am leaving you some pics, and also a picture of an original "Japanese" controller I got in the mail just today! Like we say in my country: "When lacking bread, cakes are good" (What I love is the cable in the controller, it's transparent lemon green. Cheers to all! Hector aka Nacho el Kid.
  14. Any suggestions as to why this is the case? the path i'm using is on partition F, could that be an issue? Thanks in advance.
  15. MAMEoXtras 2.0 runs just fine but all the MAMEoXtras updated 2018/2019 just reboots my Xbox when executing the .xbe, tried deleting udata/tdata/cache, still the same, what could be the problem?, thanks for any clues.
  16. Hi Everyone, A few weeks ago I found my old XBOX that I modded like 10 years ago or so. I is quite substantially modded (VGA-connector at the back, internal WIFI-bridge laptop dvd-drive, 2.5" sata drive, fans, front-usb), but I do not remember how I did it (what softmod, did I do TSOP-flash...) So after finding the box I wanted to try if it still works. there were some casing-parts missing (top cover and the two trays of the DVD and HDD) but the essentials were still there. I connected it via VGA to a LCD-screen, booted aaaand: error 21. then I remembered the DIP-switch on the back to choose the video-mode, changed the setting and rebooted. This could have been the success and I would not write this lines here. But then the HDD slid down from its temporary (badly chosen) position and touched the internals of the power-supply... instant-BOOM and all lights off . Strangely this brought back my interest in the xbox. I tried to repair the power-supply, then bought a new xbox of the same revision, reassembled mine with the new parts ( now also with top case and dvd/hdd-tray ). now its all working again but I am interested and motivated to learn whats the current state of development for the ogXBOX. So see you in the other sub-forums. Have a nice day everyone
  17. Hello i just brought a Crystal Xbox and i need some help. I have been speaking to the guy who sold it to me, He knows nothing about modding but has been super helpful, He brought the xbox of his friend before him, But his friends got the xbox of someone else before that. What i need help with is distinguishing weather the Xbox that i have brought has a mod chip or not? He tells me when he turns on the Xbox an Evo x logo come up in the top left corner. He also says it is region free, and plays DVDs without the dvd add on. I asked for more detail and this is what he told me and this is all he knows. The seller. Ok I’ve checked and you need to hold the power button down to get the evo x logo to show. Holding down the eject button or just simply pressing the power button boots it to the xboxdashboard. So I’m guessing that it has the chip but the bios needs flashing by connecting to a pc. I don’t have a clue how to do that. I know nothing about Xbox modding at all. If i have brought a modded Xbox then i may need some advice, on stuff like How to flash a bios on it, What bios to use? I would want to replace the CD rom drive as he says it is sticky and upgrade the HDD so i can install games to the HDD My problems is that i know 0 about modding original Xboxes. But i have some technical background and i have modded previous consoles. Thank you! Sorry for my lack on knowledge on the subject. I also brought a USB Adaptor Cable Cord for Xbox (Original) So i can use a usb on the xbox if needed. He says the The manufacture date of console is 18/6/2004 as well.
  18. Guys do you believe in online purchasing xbox live gold membership keys with finding some great deals with them? I need your opinions and your favorite sources where you buy all of the things related to XBOX and games.
  19. Hi, I've owned a couple of OG Xbox's, one was a Friendtech Modded one with all the bell's and whistles, the other was a stock Xbox that I eventually soft modded. Unfortunately my Friendtech Xbox was stolen during a house burglary by some near do well nefarious SOB's, but they left my Soft Modded Xbox for some reason. Recently after watching some youtube videos explaining tsop flashing I decided to give it a go. I identified my XBOX as a V1.4 with a winbond tsop. I removed the battery capacitor as suggested but am still struggling bridging my R7D1 and R7D10, I thought I had it but the flashing failed. (The damn things are so tiny!). Anyways I'm going to have another go with the soldering iron, maybe try using a bit of wire to bridge the pads. Anyways, thanks for having me
  20. My XBOX just squeeled when I turned it off. I'm thinking it could be the power supply; as it is a v1.0. Any suggestions on the best power supply to get for the v1.0?
  21. Just needed that 3rd post to get forlorn's Hexen download...couldn't wait!!!!
  22. So, I FTPed Just Cause to my Xbox a while back, and I get audio during the main menu upon bootup, and audio during the first cutscene, but as soon as gameplay starts, the audio stops working. It's not my A/V cables because I know they're all the way in, otherwise the sound wouldn't play, nor is it the settings in-game. Any ideas on what could be causing this sound glitch? I should add, it's only Just Cause that has this issue, not my other games.
  23. moded a 1.6 with an aladdin mod chip what a crap shoot lol
  24. was huge into modchipping back in the day, but since those have become so scarce, decided to test my hand in the tsop realm....looks like a great place to do that here.
  25. Hello all, Always finding away back to the xbox scene and loving it!
