  1. Hi First of all: I'm completely new to OG Xbox modding. I have three boxes (and hopefully a fourth on the way soon): The first one: My original Xbox I bought way back. Last time I used it, it worked... but that was before my oldest child (now 16) was born! It is dated 2002-04-04 which according to https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Versions makes it a version 1.0. Opening it also reveals a fan on the gpu and the controller daughterboard. The clock capacitor luckily looks in pretty good condition. No leakage. The second one: This one I got second hand sometime around 2006. That was the time I got a second Steel Battalion set with LoC. Since I don't have any friends the only way I could enjoy multiplayer was by having a second set myself... This one is dated 2003-07-27 which makes it a version 1.4. Or maybe a version 1.3 if I use the YWW from the serial number ("5197553 33005"). I also opened this one and found the clock capacitor in good shape What's important about these two Xboxes is that they are completely vanilla. I have made no modifications to them at all. Other than piercing the stickers to be able to open the cases for what I am describing in this post. The reason I have kept them this way for so long is due to the Tekki unlock code Capcom released in 2005. Both consoles have it. The third one: I actually got this a while back because I wanted to build a dev kit. I never got around to it. Probably because I found out that it's a version 1.6b and so didn't have pads for the extra 64MB RAM. This one was modded when I got it. I can only believe that it's softmodded because there is no trace of extra chips or wires anywhere. It has UnleashX installed. Ok. So what I want to do now: 1. Remove the clock caps from the two old Xboxes. I believe I can just do that without any consequences (other than the clock requesting to be set every time I turn them on) even when the consoles or unmodded, correct? 2. With the caps out of the way I want to turn them on to check them. Or should I do that before removing the caps? The things I have read about the caps have made me a little weary of turning them on beforehand. 3. Backup all the HDDs to preserve them. This step is what worries me the most. Can it be done without modifying the first two boxes? If I have to modify them, what alterations will be made to the HDDs? I want to preserve them as pristine as possible. But also only if it's meaningful. If I can make a clone without modifying the boxes but the drive image is useles then I of course don't want to do it. What would you suggest I do here? 4. Whether or not I need to mod them to backup the HDDs I want to mod them anyway. It seems to be the only way to make sure the consoles remain usable in the future. My initial plan is to softmod them with Splinter Cell. (The third one is modded so no need to) 5. Replace all the HDDs with newer ones. Preferably SSDs. I have too many 120GB ones lying around. And then storing the original HDDs. The HDD in the third one seems to be the original so whoever modded it didn't replace the HDD. Anything I should be aware of? Something I am missing/overlooking? Especially with regards to step 3. When looking at the softmodding guide I see steps about nulling the HDD keys. It says "optional" so given that I want to preserve the disks as original as possible is this something I should think about?
  2. The Cerbios 2.3.2 with HD+ support is not far away with the ElpisHD in beta testing https://www.xbox-scene.info/articles.html/cerbios-releases-new-custom-bios-v232-hd-alpha-with-hd-support-for-testing-bug-reporting-r28/ Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  3. Bought a Xbox at the local boot sale recently, after opening it up the caps look like they need replacing. Pretty sure I have read on here that the 1.2 usually has 3 caps not the 5 as on most so I just wanted to check if this is right or if I have got that wrong. It has the conexant chip and a thomson dvd drive if that is of any help. The guy had a couple for sale but this one has the 3 little buttons on the front left so I bought it hoping it still had the chip fitted. It does indeed have a X2.3B Lite and the hdd is a 120gb so I assume it was done back in the day, I have only just had time to open it up so I need to do some searching to see what that chip is all about. My main issue for now is ordering the right caps so if anyone could confirm the version from my explanation I would appreciate it. Can post a pic of board if needed. Thanks Cush
  4. Crystal XBOX v1.6. Xecuter3 chip, Faceplate, LCD. Xtender kit. (Space for 3 HDDs). Crystal JoyTech 6" XBOX TFT colour screen. (Not ever managed to find another like it).
  5. Moderator Edit: Hey all. Currently having issues with my xbox. Have opened it 3 times now to re-examine it, and I have NO idea what I need to do to get it to turn on again. Here's a video I made showing the mobo, and explaining everything I've done and checked. Please let me know what you think, I'd love to do whatever I can to avoid needing to buy another box. Literally any help at all is greatly appreciated, please let me know. I read around some more and I've read it Might be a blown transistor, (As this seems to be a common problem with 1.6 mobos, which I believe mine is, last time I checked. Was a couple years ago, tho I'm pretty confident it's a 1.6.) or that I might need to solder new capacitors, or new cable, etc. Man, I'm just wondering if these might just be too old to buy anymore. Seems like nowadays they just break out of nowhere, and no matter how many I buy and replace, they just break down anyways Any way to prevent that from happening? Is there any kind of scene out there to completely overhaul these things to make them actually last longer than a few years? Please let me know what I should do, and Thanks in advanced! Here's a video I recorded to showcase the issue I'm encountering: Not sure why the black background with black font color for the original text: <End Edit> Hey all. 6. Growing up as a wee gaming lad, my first home console was the ever cheap PS2 Slim with a PAID demo disc from Circuit City (Shoutout to Jampack Volume 13). Even as I amassed my collection of games, I was envious of the competition from Nintendo, since the funny cube had the cool italian guys, & I didn't. but then there was the Xbox, something that seemed so powerful & complex, I avoided it entirely out of fear & confusion (mostly confusion). However, I had multiple cool uncles who played classics like Halo, Doom 3, & Jedi Knight Academy on their individual Xboxes. Every single time I saw them play these titles, I was floored by their visuals, the gameplay on display, & the fact it was all coming out of this hulking THING that I knew was just better than my PS2 in every way, including physically if my PS2 was forced to do a trust fall with Xbox. Fast forward to the present, & for the past 6-7 months, I've been on an absolute spree on collecting Xbox Classics, controllers, accessories, & multiple Xboxes themselves after learning how varied the modding scene for the Green Box actually is. After spending over a decade completely ignoring the brick that I so deeply admired, the goal is to honor it's legacy by cleaning up any Xbox that I find a good deal for, learn what makes them tick, mod them to smithereens, & of course, play. The true first Xbox doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
  7. Hi all, I joined because I have a 1.0 build I did back in the day (2004), obviously things have changed a lot since then. I have the solderless xecutor 2.3b lite where you screw it onto the board headers and everything still works great. I did remove my clock cap before it could wreck anything. I've upgraded my fan to a noctua. I do have the later heat sinks in hand, but I will probably defer installation until I do a full recap and my HDMI mod from MakeMHZ. I have a 200 GB ide drive in there now, running avalaunch dashboard. I do like that dashboard but I'm guessing that is very out of date. I've done a few updates here and there, and I added some better emulators but I'm still mostly running the same old stuff I did back then. After adding xb partitioner 1.3 and starting it up to see what it looks like, I found that I need to upgrade my bios to allow me to go with the 2 TB drive I bought and the venerable StarTech SATA adapter I have. I'm downloading TruHeXen 2020 right now from archive so maybe that will have a new bios that will let me use the 2TB. The last time I set one of these up might have been around 2007 with an evox disc I probably got off usenet back then. I still have that disc but I'm sure it isn't going to get me where I want to be with regard to upgrading to a 2TB drive. Anyway, I will be searching the forums before simply asking someone to tell me things that have been answered tons of times. Just thought I would introduce myself. Thanks!
  8. Hello everyone, Yesterday i was trying to repair my Xbox (wich is a 1.4/1.5, manifactured in 2003), i removed the clock capacitor and everything was fine (i dont care to put the date every time i plug it in) but from point blank it shut down and never came back. when i plug it in it FRAGs and i'm not getting out of this. This is my motherboard : https://imgur.com/a/ZycVKLW i have a modchip installed (not by me, but by someone in the early 2000s), but not a softmod as my xbox read only backups in DVD as far as i know. i made a post on reddit but i had no luck. i tried connecting my HDD to a PC with an adapter and it get recognized by the Devidce Manager but xboxhdm23usb and xplorer360 doesn't seem to detect it and i cant figure out why. i don't care to lose my data, but i just want my xbox back up and running, any suggestion is welcome, but i don't have a EEPROM reader nor a backup and neither a pc with serial port. help me getting this bad boy back to life
  9. Why do people like the hexen disk? I have a version 1.4 xbox with a Open Xenium with a Ind-5004.67 bios and a X2-5035.137 bios and that's set as the default boot bios For the test install I used a 2 tb hard drive 1st load the hexen 2020 disk and cold boot. 2nd use option 3 (TSOP Flashed,Modchiped) 3rd use Option 3.5 (Chipped) 4th option 3.5.3 (New disk NTSC) now enter a password (friggen stupid idea) now sit back and watch it install all sorts of files and folders including a folder called ''Delete Me "". Let Xbpartitioner 1.3 do it job and now I can reboot the Xbox without Hexen and it boots to unleash dash. Ok I wan't XBMC so load Hexen disk and use Install Applications then install XBMC, More files been installed and more Delete Me folder files! I also wanted XBMC4Gamers so I added that as as Application and the same Delete Me stuff. Reboot the Xbox without the Hexen disk and unleash opens now it now has a XBMC icon so press A to load XBMC and nothing it comes back to the unleash dash but it works if I run it from the apps folder and so does XBMC4Gamers. Now I really want XBMC4Gamers as the default dash so I loaded up the Hexen disk and used the option 5 Dashboard tools Then switch Switch dashboards option 5.1 and there is no XBMC4Gamers but XBMC will do for now so I set that as the default dash on E drive(that's also where I installed XBMC and XBMC4Gamers) And now reboot the Xbox without the Hexen Disk and it now locks up after the boot animation. And using the IND bios is the same it locks up at the white IND bios screen. Ok so lets load the hexen disk again and set the dash back to Unleash and reboot it now will boot to Unleash again. The Hexen disk is now out on the road some where after it was as a frisbee out the door. So now I load Slayer 2.7 and complete new large drive install and reboot FTP XBMC4Gamers to E drive and also FTP Xbpartitioner 1.3 to E drive Open file explorer to run Xbpartitioner 1.3 and Format F and G drives to 926.78 gb each FTP back to the Xbox and edit the X2config file on E drive to set xbmc4gamers on the E drive as the 1st boot dash Now reboot the Xbox and now I have XBMC4Gamers as the default dash and can set about copying me games and the like across. And this folks is why I love Hexen. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  10. is upgrading the hdd the main reason for doing a tsop flash/modchip? will a basic softmod allow me to ftp and install dlc and do basicly everything but upgrade the hdd?
