About Me

  1. Hi, I've just cleaned up an old xbox to keep around as a spare. I've cleaned and lubed the drive mechanism in the DVD drive, all is moving smoothly and reading discs perfectly. The only problem is that, when opening the tray, the open/close button light keeps flashing while open, and after a few seconds, the tray closes by itself. It's not stopping me from playing games, but I'd like to get it back to working as it should. Does anyone know if this sounds like something that's easy to fix? Thanks very much. -Bob
  2. Not sure whether this is a Chimp 261812, HDD, BIOS or other matter. I've not used a 1TB HDD with a Xbox before, largest size I've used is 500GB and I've had no problems with Chimp 261812 formatting the extended partition(s). Well today I decided to build a new Xbox HDD using a recently purchased ITB WD AF SATA HDD for use in a chipped Xbox by using a TSOPed Xbox and Chimp 261812 (v1.0). I've done similar things in the past when I couldn't use an installer disc because the Xbox did not have a working DVD drive. All went well and worked perfectly except the formatting of the extended partitions. I elected to have all available space for F but after I'd cloned the existing 80GB IDE 2.5" HDD, BTW just C and E, I was asked again how I wanted to partition the available free space. I checked the Slave ITB HDD's status and the partition table showed the remaining space equally split between F and G about 450GB each. WTF? So I redid it, choosing all F again, but still with the same result. The custom EvoxM8+ BIOS I used for the TSOP is set up for all free space to be used by partition 6 (F) and not to ignore the partition table. So I exited Chimp and used Rocky5's XBPTableWriter to reaffirm all free space goes to F. Went back to Chimp, this time with the 1TB as Master HDD on the TSOPed machine and checked. It was still showing equal split F and G so again I tried reformatting to use all F but still no joy. Long story but I eventually gave up on Chimp and went to XBPartitioner v1.3 and very quickly had the thing formatted to use all the space to F with the correct cluster size (64K) for the 950+GB F partition. So any ideas why Chimp might have been unable to do that?
  3. Hello, recently soft modded (rocky5) my Xbox, with no problems, upgraded the HDD to 250GB, and swapped the dash location to C:\Dashboard changing the dash to Evox. The issue is - upon boot the flubber animation plays, the Microsoft logo appears at the bottom, and then a black screen for about 10 or so seconds. Was wondering is this a common thing, or if not is there a possible fix ?, maybe such as showing the Xbox logo screen until the dash loads. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hi Friends, I'm here to ask your help again. My friend ask me to repair his xbox. When I opened it I seen the following. Xbox 1.6 with an MSI DVD/DVD RW drive. The dvd drive was soldered to the eject button's board. I do not know this type of DVD MOD cause I always use LG 8163B drive. So the plan was the following. Soldering in an Aladdin XT modchip and change this unknown DVD mod to other --> LG 8163B (it was tested in some other xboxes and worked well) and change the HDD to a bigger one. Okay, chip soldered in, works well. DVD drive changed to 8163B, and here is my problem, the eject button won't work. I can open the DVD tray only with the eject button of the 8163B. I not tested the eject button before the changes. I checked the traces on the motherborad with multimeter, everythings fine. I checked the Poweron/Eject board, there is no problem with it. So, if someone has any idea what I have to try to fix it, that would be great. Thank you in advance.
  5. webwxgetvideo.mp4 It can be boot without hard disk. I can see EVO mark at the left top. And I got the 09 error. If the hard disk was conected. when I reboot the console, The xbox will be frozen at the start-screen. I try to change more cable and hard disk. Still not resolved. Please kindly help me to find this issue root casue.
  6. All, I just recently ressurected my old xbox, and upgraded it to a 2tb drive. I had to upgrade the bios on the chip in order to properly have the system see all the new space. I did so by using the hexen disc. So this worked, but now if i use the Xecutor bios, it takes a little over 10 seconds for it to get to the boot animation screen. If i use evox, its a little quicker, but not by that much. Anything i can do to increase the speed? On the old xecutor bios it was instantaneous. Thanks in advance!
  7. All Xbox's I mention are Tsop'd 1.0,1.1& 1.4 .I'm receiving the errors above, this is only with the sata HDD and a convertor I got off ebay. I have one in another tsop xbox and it runs fine So I have 3 convertors, all are the same and 1 runs just fine. The other 2 give the error codes above. The one working is using the original Xbox's IDE Cable with a slow 5400rpm 2tb Drive. Works flawlessly The other 2 Tsop xboxs ( 1.0 & 1.4 ) do not want to accept the Sata Drives, Their original Stock HDD with UNleashX Dahboard works fine on both. All drives are set to unlocked the 1.4 runs EvoM8+ The 1.0 Run x2 5035? Think thats right. - Same as the 1.1 that works. I've read this could be an issue with the Sata Adaptor, IDE Cable only being 40wire, Drives or Both. Its worth mentioning I've tried a few different hdd's with the same issue on all Sata's. I can get Hexen2020 to boot on both but Hexen also struggles to read the drives. On the 1.4 I backup the Eeprom to the HDD and it will boot but to the Xbox Dash and as soon as I try with the UnleashX Dash I get the errors again. I am close to ordering an 80wire ide cable to try see if this resolves it, Failing that The more expensive adaptor for IDE made by Star tech which i'd wished to avoid. 1 more thing, the IDE to Sata Adaptors being set to Master gives the error. Without the Pin in cable select does nothing but freeze on the Blob Screen Slave mode causes it to freeze also. Any advise is really appreciated.
  8. Hello everyone, I am writing this today to see if anyone would potentially know what the issue is with my Xbox's dvd drive. A little backstory. I got an unopened 1.6 many months ago. The console would give the lovely 07 error, so I figured the hard drive was the problem. I swapped out the hard drive with a known good working hard drive, and chipped the console, and would still get the 07 error. In my quest to repair the xbox, I noticed that the green light was constantly flashing whenever I turned the console on. I swapped out the disc drive and all of the console's problems went away. That brings me to my issue. I currently have a Samsung SDG-605F that stops the console from detecting the hard drive whenever its IDE cable is connected. If I connect only the power cable, the console will open and close the console no problem. When I then connect the IDE cable, the console flashes green constantly and the drive will not respond to the eject button being pressed. I've taken a look at the drive's motherboard and there is nothing that stands out as wrong. My thoughts are that the firmware has gotten partially corrupted, the dram chip on the drive's motherboard is dead, or there are issues with the MediaTek controller on the drive's motherboard. I'm not sure what the issue is. I am hoping that someone here knows what the issue is and what I would need to do to fix it. Thank you for reading through all of this. DobaMuffin
  9. Hi everybody, i'm new here and this Will be my first post. I am new to original xbox modding, and I just recently installed an openxenium modship on my 1.6b xbox. I've also done The spi2par2019 lcd mod from ryze119. So now to my issue, when im using Xbmc and dvd2xbox lcd is working perfect, however when im booting into xenium OS lcd shows a couple of random strange looking symbols. My thoughts are that this could be due to some settings because here is the thing, first time i booted up into xbmc same thing happened where lcs showed some strange characters. And this were fixed simply by changing some settings in the xbmc lcd settings, and the reason this was happening whas due to The backlight were set by deafult to 80% and since ive done The arduino only installation (no backpack) i dont have backlight controll, so i set it to 100 percent and everything worked fine after that. So my guess is that it might be some similar issue happening in xenium OS where maybe some deafult lcd settings is causing issues and I cant find any way to change lcd settings in xenium OS, does Anyone know if its possible? Or have an idea of whats going on? Its really a small issue since its just happening in xenium OS and works perfect in every other app but it just anoys me, hope someone can help, i'd appreciate it.
  10. My issue is that out of all the games I have, probably only every 4th or 5th game actually launches. The rest just go from whichever dashboard I am using, to a black screen, then back to the dashboard without running at all... The screen flickers a bit but stays black and its always the exact same amount of time. Now if its a working game, it works. It loads instantly, no waiting, and it has no glitches or crashes. First the specs: Xbox v1.0 with a OpenXenium modchip recently installed. I am running 3 different dashes (mostly as incremental troubleshooting steps, not to complicate things). The first is a softmodded UnleashX using Rocky5's latest. 2nd boots using M8+ bios to XBMC. 3rd boots to EvoX also using M8+. I upgraded to a 2tb drive and copied over all my original roms, plus a hdd ready set I found on the usual places. I had done a power fix on the motherboard traces and removed the clock cap after it burst(no corrosion), but that was while it was softmodded for the last 13 years, and its never affected the ability of games or applications to run from disc or hdd Troubleshooting: I've done all the usual troubleshooting steps like trying both my Component and Composite cables, and forcing resolutions from 1080i down to 480i. I've attempted to launch all the roms using "launch as NSTC" or "launch as PAL" (forcing PAL-60), and setting regions to auto or default. I've also read that softmods and hard mods don't like working together, so I reformatted C and put back clean C files for the original MS Dash. I did not clear out the UDATA or TDATA folders on E, but I wouldn't suspect that to affect launching specific games. I routinely clean out the drive cache folder, and I have plenty of space free on all my partitions. I've tried running the games from UnleashX, Evox, XBMC, and game mgr in DVD2Xbox. Thinking perhaps it was just the hdd ready set I obtained was partially bad, I tried getting some redumps of a few of the non-working games. I XISO'd them using dvdmulleter, burned them to dvd-r, then ripped them to the xbox hdd using DVD2Xbox(patching and ACL processing enabled). I also tried Qwix to ftp over files from XISOs. Originally I had FTP'd over the entire 2tb hdd ready set using FileZilla using Binary, but these few games I was testing I must have transferred dozens of times for testing making sure it was set binary and that the xbe's were patched first. Those redumps function the same as the hdd ready set. Black screen, then back to dash. Very consistent... if the game will run, it will run no matter how I get it onto the box. If not, then black screen. Where I launch them from has ZERO affect. All my original rips on the hard drive (made by me over the last decade while the box was softmodded) still function fine, including original discs, and maybe 20% of the hdd ready set. Are there some basic step I've overlooked in the modding process? I am new to this OpenXenium modchip. Is there some other bios I should try, either newer or older like M7? It feels like this old v1.0 xbox may not be liking all this newer software and hardware, but thats just my desperation grasping at straws. Any questions, help, or suggestions? I felt like this was the best place for this thread, but I'd be happy to ask a mod to move it or start a new one in the correct forum if "games" is not the best place for it.
  11. Hi guys, So a close friend's og xbox had a loud pop and smoke when he plugged it in last month so I decided to give him a spare 1.4 that I TSOPed, put in a 2TB with all necessary parts. He purchased a Hyperkin HDMI and for some reason the there seems to be interference/noise (see pics) on the 1.4 but not on my 1.1. Composite is fine on both. All the settings are the same on both og xboxes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...
  12. So I bought a cheapmod from ebay to try something different on a 1.6. Soldered in the rebuild board and installed the chip, adding the one wire from the lower LFRAM via to pin 3 on the LPC header. Won't boot from chip, and on top of that, installing the chip causes the LFRAM cut I made to then have continuity thus booting the stock TSOP chip. I would think I screwed something up but I slapped my openxenium chip I have in my parts drawer and it works fine. I've been looking at diagrams for 2 days now and can't figure it out. Does Pin 4 need removed from the pin header I soldered in? I've seen some guides that say Pin 4 can't be installed for this.
  13. Hi Everyone, I picked up another XBOX on eBay that was really clean never been opened. It has a strange issue though, if you power on it will take about 1-2 minutes to boot to the dashboard. If you power on and open the disc tray during the start-up animation it will boot straight away. I opened the XBOX and the clock capacitor had leaked so that got removed and 3 more capacitors had popped so they got replaced today. The motherboard has been completely cleaned. The disc drive works fine once powered up and games run no problem. Anyone had this issue? Is the disc drive on its way out? Thanks in advance
  14. Hello, I have used the official component cable for my original Xbox for years without any issues, until now. This is what happens: https://youtu.be/RihPxD0JcB0 This only seems to happen on menu's. No problems in-game so far. At first, I thought the cable was damaged, so I bought a Kaico HDMI adapter to replace it, but this is what happens when I use it: https://youtu.be/iLw4o2IqtGE I decided to grab my older Xbox from the attic for testing and both cables work perfectly on that console, so I think the cables are not the issue. I'm no expert at all, so can somebody tell me what's going on with my console? Can it be fixed?
  15. I have a board that won’t power, had 3 caps gone below the cpu which I have changed for new and a slight trace corroded which I have jumped and still no power at all. the PSU is good I’ve tried another and swapped power/eject buttons, so where do I look next? https://imgshare.io/image/NXxtmZ https://imgshare.io/image/NXxonc
  16. Hello all, I am in the process of getting my old modded Xbox back up and running. It is a v1.6 xbox with a Xenium modchip in it. I am running into a problem. If I boot into the xenium dash, it doesn't register any controller input (I am using an aftermarket controller I couldn't find the actual Microsoft one). If I log into the xecutor dash instead, the controller works perfectly fine, no issues. Any ideas what could be going on? Not sure if it matters however the system does have a bad DVD disk drive in it, the board that the eject motor is on is somehow cracked in half and always reads open tray (still trying to find a replacement for cheap) could that have something to do with it? It just doesn't make sense to me that the controller works in the normal dashboard, just not the xenium one where you can lock/unlock the drive, pretty much the setup stuff for the modchip. Also, whenever I try to access the original legit Xbox dashboard, it will load up then pop up an error saying unable to connect to xbox live and it kicks me back to the executor dash.
  17. Hey all - I'm getting consistent freezes/stuttering on my hard modded Xbox. You can see and hear the stutters interrupt the scrolling in XBMC in the video below (turn up volume to hear it) and some of the stats change to "Busy" at the same time. This occurs everywhere, in-game and in dashboards like UnleashX, but this was the easiest way to capture it. I upgraded this Xbox a month ago and have been playing a lot without problems until now; copied ~600GB of data to it so far. I'm afraid I've just worn out the CPU/PSU. I even plugged the Xbox into my UPS to make sure it gets clean power, but it still happens. Specs: Hard Modded Xbox 1.1 with Xecuter Pro 1.2 chip. Flashed banks 1+2 (512k) with X2 5035 BIOS. Banks 2 & 3 (256k+256k) are unused. Upgraded 2TB SSHD with 80 conductor IDE cable and SATA to IDE adapter. Disk space split evenly between F:\ & G:\ partitions, formatted with 64k clusters. Thermal paste has been replaced on CPU & GPU with AS5. Clock capacitor removed. Tried swapping in and configuring a different 2TB SATA HDD with the same result. Currently testing the HDD, IDE-Cable, and SATA-to-IDE-Adapter in a different Softmodded Xbox to isolate the problem and determine if the issue carries over with the upgrade cable/adapter. Any advice is appreciated!
  18. Hi all, I have a v 1.4 Xbox that was modded with the Xenium ice modchip about 15 years ago. It was in storage for several years and I just went back to using it again. It booted up just fine after all these years after I changed some bad caps and the clock capacitor. I was messing around with the various apps I had installed on it several years ago, and when using the XBMP (Xbox Media Player) app, I changed the resolution in the settings menu and when I rebooted, there was no video output - only a black screen with the "no signal" message on the TV. It looks like the XBox boots up normally (except for the black screen) because the Xenium chip's LED lights up indicating that it has loaded a custom BIOS, and I am able to FTP into the box. My suspicion is that the XBMP app changed a configuration (?.ini) file causing it to output a video signal that the TV (a Samsung flat screen TV with a 720p resolution, I think) cannot display. Can some one tell me what I need to do to get the display back? Thanks in advance for your responses.
  19. I'm not 100% sure where to put this, so I'll post it here. If it needs to be posted somewhere else, please let me know. I'm having this bizzare issue with Namco Museum (2001) where with some games, it will freeze upon, not entering, but exiting a game. This happens with Pole Position and Ms. Pacman. Not sure if it happens with Pac Attack or Pac Mania, I haven't unlocked those yet. For the affected games, it consistently freezes between pushing pause at the main menu of the loaded game, and after selecting exit from that pause menu. It locks the system to the point where it won't respond to the controller, but does allow for disc ejecting to the dashboard. The disc is a bit scratched, but it is in good condition, especially compared to my other games which have a LOT more damage than this copy, and have zero problems. My only idea as to what is going on here is those scratches somehow corrupted the protocol that the affected games use to exit to the main menu. Not sure if exiting mid game has the same effect. As I eluded to before, none of my other games have any issues loading or playing whatsoever. By that logic, I'm certain my disc drive works absolutely fine. It reads my other games and most of my CD's without any issues. Do you guys think I'm right in my assessment, or is there something else going on? I have filmed this issue and I will post it to my YouTube channel on about four days from this post, if all goes well. I will link it somehow if there's enough interest.
  20. Hello Guys, i have a softmoded Xbox console and i wanted to upgrade my Hard drive From the Stock To a 500GB Seagate Barracuda Drive, I tried everything I connected the Molex power cable, 80 Wire Cable, loaded the Chimp app to try and get inside to do it but it just keeps saying " Unable to boot the first sector" I tried again and nothing worked, I have a normal SATA to ide adapter which shows light, I put Ito slave and still nothing happens, I Have an original controller and using an RGB Cable but still nothing, all i get is this message, can someone help me please?
  21. Hi, been putting icons on the UnleashX dashboard but when I try to install one for Settings I getting error 18? I have tried a couple of versions of UnleashX and get the same problem. Any ideas?
  22. Yesterday I ftp'd Conker Live and Reloaded to my Xbox v.1.0 , however the game doesn't boot up, instead it displays a message saying: "there is a problem with your disc, it may be damaged or dirty". I tried patching the game with ACL in DVD2Xbox but nothing happens, I still get the same error. Is there something more I'm not taking in account?
  23. Hi all, I have an X3 with a 1TB inside. I formatted and prepped it with the SLayers Hybrid installer. I am getting errors while trying to delete from it, write to it. Certainly the F and G partitions. Ive tried to format it with Xbox Partitioner 1.3 and that shows drive G as "ER" instead of 64 (Clusters). The split is roughly 130G and 880G. It seems just be cartain sections of the disc that are effected, as I have just copied over 30GB no problem. ANy ideas on how to proceed?
  24. I got an Halo xbox a bit back and I am not too familiar with the common xbox issues. I fired it up recently and saw my screen split in two when loading a game. Any one know what the issue is and what the fix would be?
  25. Hi everyone, I'm a new user, have xbox I don't know what version it is, modchip is Aladdin XT with bios M8plus, but a strange thing happens when I turn on the console by holding down the power button 2 seconds it turns on but when I start any game via the evox 3935 dashboard gets stuck on the loading screen, the chip appears to be deactivated....the power button turns green..after 5 seconds it is power on.
