About Me

1. Hello, I was changing out all the capacitors on the OGXbox. The Xbox is a working one. I didn't check for continuity before starting the work. After half way through, I started checking for continuity and saw that there is continuity on capacitors C7E2 and C7F1, circled in the picture. There is no continuity on the other caps, just these two. They show continuity to each other and to ground. I removed the capacitors, but the holes still show continuity, but the capacitors by themselves do not. I am a noob, so I do not know if the continuity is meant to be or not. I held the wires on there for a while to see if it will go away after filling up some caps, but nope. It also shows short to one side of all other caps as well. So, is it supposed to be or not? Please help, I do not want to ruin the board. (Ver. 1.4/1.5)

3. Hi everyone I'm new here to this forum. I'm going to make this short and sweet. I was given an original Xbox by an older friend of mines. It was his sons, he knows nothing about it. I start it up and I get this screen. ( smartxx ) screen, the picture below. when I click on the ( x2 evox 2005 ) it takes me to the photo with the error code 6. I removed the mod chip and then started the Xbox again. the screen went black with some green lettering and a code error 6 on the top left of the screen. is there anyway I can completely remove this chip and have it back to factory settings. or do I need to keep this mod chip in the Xbox? is there something I can do to make this thing work? there's no games anywhere in this chip. idk what to do. if you need more pictures of the menu please let me know so i can post them, thank you for your help
4. I'm working on a mini Xbox and I'm going to be using a picoPSU for power. I've already read up on the 5v amperage issues and I bought one that should work fine. I've wired up all the ground, 12v, 5v, and 3.3v wires, and connected the Xbox's 3VSB, PowOK, and PowOn all to 3.3v. However, when I enable the ATX power supply and press the power button on the Xbox, I get green power LEDs for a couple seconds, then they blink green and red, and the console never powers on. Need a little guidance on what I should be changing in my setup.
5. Ok, I'm going out of my mind here, and I hope I can get some help, and a direction. I will try to provide as much info as possible. Xbox Hardware: 1.6 Mod Chip: xecuter 3 ce Bios: (tried multiple with same outcome) Currently one made with EVTool HDD: Western Digital Blue 3TB SATA w/ Startech SATA converter & 80 wire 40 pin IDE cable So here is the problem. I have re-formatted the drive and partitioned it multiple times using different tools off of the "OGXBox Installer 2021 - v1.5.4" Disk. I have use multiple Bios and with success have see the F drive in OGXBox Installer, and XBMC4G as a 2TB usable space. After I transfer my games to the drive, I can only see 256 out of over 800 games. The other games come up as gibberish and can't access them (please see attached photos). Even when I look in the file explorer in XBMC4G I can only see 256 games. If I FTP to the drive, I see all the games. I'm completely out of ideas why I would get this problem multiple times. Please help Thanks in advance!
6. Hello there! I bought myself a soft modded original Xbox and also found out you could make it look like the 360 blades with XBMC and MC360, now I also know I want to use XLink Kai and when Insignia launches for the console, I wanted to do that as well but I also know MC360 probably won’t work for that since it’s not been updated in years from what I’ve read on forums. I guess to shorten all of this up, am I overwriting my Rocky5 softmod with XBMC or MC360? Or would I be able to just switch back and forth between all the dashboards I want? Any help is greatly appreciated! (:
7. Hello all, I've just dusted off my old Xbox and have some questions about it, I've tried to Google it but the people writing answers is on a whole other level of knowledge. I'm looking to install a 3TB HDD in my Xbox and I have some questions. I have a Xenium modchip, and I'm wondering if I can follow along this guy from 24:18 and forward? Can I use Cerbios with my Xenium modchip? When I boot the Xbox now it says Xecuter2 under the Xbox logo, I've tried every tool in my dashboard but no one seems to tell me the BIOS that I run now. I think I have a revision 1.4 because I've a Focus video chip, I've also looked for soldering on those pins for TSOP flash, but they don't seem to be touch (just read about a guy that managed to flash TSOP and brick his device). I just want someone to verify that I can upgrade the BIOS so that I can utilize the 3TB HDD before I manage to brick it. Second question that I have is this little switch that's connected to the modchip itself, what does it do? There seems to be no difference where it put it, it has two "modes" front and back. Thanks in advance
8. Hello all! I have a little question. Can I use 49lf080 to make cheapmod? I have one OGX v1.4 intended for experimental purposes (in poor visual condition). I'd like to replicate a dev-kit with COMPLEX_4627debug and dev dash. or if you know other cheap way to get 1MB flash at v1.4, please give me a hint. Best Regards, PatriX1234
9. Hi guys TLDR: - My xbox's Samsung disc drive no longer works, already tried the usual things. - Am I using the correct replacement laser? - have I overlooked anything for optical drive repair? - Can I still mod my xbox with an OpenXenium chip + can I properly upgrade the hard drive without ever needing the disc drive again (eg for running Hexen or OGXbox installation Disc, or can I use another way to properly set up a 2tb hard drive I've got for the planned upgrade). ________________________ Full version. Hi guys. I've got a stock OG PAL Xbox (v1.1?) that doesn't read any kind of discs anymore. I found this out 3 weeks ago when I took my xbox out for the first time after a few months. It doesn't ever give disc errors. It does not have any hard or soft mods applied yet, but I've got an openxenium chip on hand ready for when I eventually get to modding (also have a 2tb Seagate Barracuda drive set aside as an upgrade). I'll add that I've already removed the clock capacitor almost 2 years ago when I bought the xbox and had zero associated issues. I usually run my xbox via RGB scart on my CRT, and it previously ran without any problems. My OG xbox has a Samsung drive: SDG-605 version B, and originally has a SOH-D16 laser. I initially tried the usual stuff and none of it worked : - cleaned the laser lens - tried lowering the DVD Potentiometer resistance through various ranges (1800ohms from factory, lowered down to 830ohms testing every 100 or so Ohms) - checked the lubricants and deep cleaned the console for any dust/debris. - Eject button and disc tray works fine. I can't find any spare optical drive replacements in the UK currently, so I opted to replace the laser assembly. I purchased the replacement from AliExpress, though the laser model number I received was actually SOH-DR16S, rather than the SOH-D16. The listing stated it was for SOH-D16, but I received the SOH-DR16S instead (I can't seem to find any of the former anywhere). I couldn't find any confirming information about whether these laser assemblies are completely cross compatible in my DVD drive (but all the connector assemblies and ribbon connectors seem to fit perfectly fine). I also followed Bahamutfan64's reddit post and the linked guide to try and prepare the laser for best compatibility*: - swapped the white houseing onto the new laser - desoldered the static protection/storage solder bridges for both potentiometers (and tried my best to minimise static discharge risk when working with the lasers after the safety bridges were removed) - reassembled the laser assembly into the Samsung drive and removed the blue lens protection film - cleaned the lens with 99% IPA to remove any residue from the protective film. - recorded both potentiometers' factory resistances. The CD pot was 800ohms from factory, whilst the DVD pot's factory was 2010ohms. These values failed to boot any of my games or CDs. - I then gradually tweaked and tested my DVD pot down to about 1240ohms, testing at roughly every 100ohm intervals, and still couldn't boot into any of my games. I'm not sure if I should go all the way down to 800ohms onnthe DVD pot on a "brand new" laser. Here's how the Xbox mostly seemed to usually behave with the new laser (and even with the old laser with Pot tweaks): with the game disc inside, the eject button would keep flashing. At the same time the optical drive motor would try a few short bursts of spinning the disc, followed by a longer spin. After this longer spin it gives up reading the disc and the eject button stops flashing. I don't know if this is a sign of the optical drive's spindle motor failing, but I think it may be unlikely. I don't get any error messages, and the xbox simply remains in the green home menu screen (even last year when I had occasional failed disc reads, I would never receive error messages). I tried a range of different known working games and CDs to no success. I want some help and was wondering where to go from here. I have a few questions: Is there any way of telling whether the optical drive's PCB is gone? There aren't any obvious signs such as leaky caps or burnt componenents. I don't own an oscilloscope or any really seriously fancy equipment. The ribbon cables are all intact and I've even tried cleaning all of their contacts and reseating. All the necessary moving parts/gears appear/feel lubricated (doesn't appear overlubed) and the laser's worm gear/motor seems to be working fine. The eject/disc tray motor and associated parts also seem to be working. Is my replacement laser assembly actually compatible? I actually tried ordering 2 laser assemblies, sadly I received SOH-DR16S and not SOH-D16. Would these differences in lasers even matter for my Samsung Drive? They both appear identical. As far as I know, I believe an SOH-D16 can be used in place of a SOH-DR16S, but not sure if it works the other way around for my specific context. Would it be worth me trying the second brand new SOH-DR16S laser as well? I have no way if telling if these new lasers were dead on arrival. If I fail with disc drive repair, could I still successfully install the openxenium chip without ever needing the disc drive? Is it possible to run the OG xbox without an optical drive ever again and still get the key modchip benefits? Ie changing the bios/nand file, upgrading to a 2tb hard drive from stock (and boot my backups from this drive). I know that the Hexen disc/OGXBox installation disc would still require an optical drive, but could I still run these (or at least their features) without an optical disc drive? Is Hexen/OGXbox install disc even necessary in my setup is using OpenXenium? Ideally I'd like to avoid grabbing a second xbox just to salvage a working DVD drive that will likely fail soon anyway. I'm also aware with a modchip I can grab a PC dvd drive to play CD/DVD/burned media if absolutely needed (sadly I don't have one of these to hand, and I won't ever be able to use this to boot my original discs). Sorry for the long post, I wanted to include as much detail as possible including everything I've already tried and considered. *Guides I followed for laser replacement: https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/phuhy3/samsung_sohdr16_laser_replacement/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share http://fillwithcoolblogname.blogspot.com/2011/02/xbox-dvd-laser-replacement.html?m=1
10. Hi I've got another dead xbox the mobo is corroded by the clock cap. The previous owner tried to repair but components flaked off. I'm hoping I can add the missing components and get it working again with some help here. It's bad. It looks like 5 SMD transistors and 5 resistor or diodes are missing. serial and gfx chip (focus) suggest board is v1.4 according to https://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=367210&seqNum=2 The same area on v1.6 is very different so it would be a big help if anyone can photo the components on a v1.0 to 1.4 board thanks
11. Hello, downloaded coinops 8 massive, noticed it is loaded with xbox games and some game systems that i already have on standalone emulators, how to remove them? Thanks
12. I've been messing around with Rocky5's script for getting certain tags from a game's _resources/default.xml file like synopsis and release date info. I've trimmed it a bit to set my desired properties when I manually run it: https://pastebin.com/Tp8Ds103 Here's how it displays: I'm trying to figure out a way to have the script either autorun when focus shifts to a new list item/game, maybe on some kind of delay so that when scrolling through lots of stuff the Xbox doesn't just freeze up, or somehow parse all default.xml files in the library on load so that the info is already ready to go when you scroll to a different game, but that might take forever tbh. I'm also having a tough time figuring out how to trim a string, say I wanted to cut out "05 NOV " in the release date and just display the year. In the script: Current_Window.setProperty('Synopsis_release_date', Output.release_year.string) or in the xml: <label>$INFO[Window(MyPrograms).Property(Synopsis_year)]</label> Not sure where in there I'd do that, if I'd need to to load another utility in python, or if I can just do it in the skin's XML, which would be handy for other things. Some help from someone with more experience with Python would be much appreciated.
13. Hey y’all, so I want to convert a 1.6 retail og Xbox to a debug kit. I want to do this because I want to dip my feet into software development for the Xbox but how do I get this going?
14. Someone knows if this PSU will work on a 1.4 console? Mine is faulty and I saw that one for sale in my country (OG Xbox stuff is extremely rare here) Pics from the seller, thanks for your time.
15. So I have this 1.0 OGXbox and it has been FRAG'ing since coming out from being locked away in storage for a several years. I remember it working fine last time I used it. It tries to boot three times and then FRAG's 50/50 fast, does not output video, and does not output audio. I have noticed that when I press the eject button that the hard drive makes some sounds like as if it's working maybe and also the noise of the fan/fans gets louder or higher in pitch (not sure), but the FRAG'ing continues and still doesn't output video/audio. I noticed is (while having the Xbox connected to an ethernet switch) that when I press the eject button the ethernet link LED comes on for about a second or two, then goes out for about five seconds, and then comes back on and stays on. I also see the ethernet activity LED blink a seemingly healthy amount too. I'm thinking the problem is one or more of the following: EEPROM, TSOP, PSU, trace rot, maybe big shield (mildly/moderately rusted) that the motherboard sits in is not making contact with required connections on the bottom of motherboard, one or more capacitors on the motherboard possibly need replacing. I'm kind of hesitant about putting a modchip in as I'm not sure if it may get damaged/destroyed by this particular Xbox (I have an OpenXenium on hand).
16. Greetings to all, I have an xbox classic 1.0 that they gave me. As soon as I tried to turn it on the initial boot appeared, but then I heard a noise like something sizzling coming from the power supply. I open the xbox and I noticed some screws springs on the power supply which probably caused a short circuit. Now the console does not turn on anymore. If I try to turn it on, the fan turns half a turn and turns off. In stand by I have 3.25 volts on the purple cable while the transformer on the secondary between the red and black cable gives me 0 volts. What could I check. Thank you
17. Hi Everyone, I am new to the OGXBOX scene. I have a working TSOPed 1.1 unit with 128GB of RAM I bought on Ebay. I also have several 1.6 motherboards/shells and I am desperately trying to install an OpenXenium board on any of them. I believe I ruined two 1.6 motherboards already (maybe they are salvageable?). I just tried soldering on the LPC rebuild board and 7 row pin header on a known, working 1.6 board last night and I tried to be very meticulous and careful but the console is now FRAGing (3 start attempts followed by blinking red and green). The actual Openxenium has no leds lit when this happens. I have sucessfully soldered a few Playstation 1 modchips as well as a Sege Genesis MegaAmp in the past, but I am having such a hard time getting the LPC rebuild (wire based or QSB board based) and OpenXenium chip working. Any pointers? Will pictures help?
18. Have a tsopped OG Xbox with a barracuda 2Tb hdd, it works fine no problems but I decided that making a clone of the hdd would be a good idea in case the one installed failed. I tried using regular pc hdd cloning software but they don't recognize the drives, I tried using chimp but ran into a couple of problems with my xbox to hdmi adapter but eventually I got it working. Problem now is that it would take chimp to clone my hdd 3 days (doing bit by bit since they are both the same type of hdd) and I'm not sure if its a good idea to keep it on for that long. The hdd is almost full so it will be cloning almost the entire 2Tb, I have it in an enclosure in my entertainment center but its open in front and I've installed a rear fan in the cabinet to help with trapped hot air coming from the xbox. What do you guys think, leave it on for the 3 days or maybe there's a faster way that I don't know about, not a lot of info out there for this other than maybe something to do with fatxplorer but there isn't any cloning options I see in the program, I don't want to stop chimp unless I know there's a better way.
19. Just installed an Aladdin in a perfectly working 1.6 because I was bored. Install went smoothly and connections are great throughout. However, I’m getting the three boot cycle and then black screen with no audio or video. Any help would be appreciated. I have all day to fiddle with it to try and fix things. I did not cut the L trace and instead have connected to the right leg of the accessible transistor on top to prevent the led from always being on when power is connected. I can’t post a pic because they all end up being over 2mb. Edit: everything stills works as normal with the chip removed from the header so nothing is screwed up internally. I’m thinking maybe a bad chip?
20. It works just fine I am looking for someone to install more games for the kids. Thanks. $. I can be reached via email at [email protected]
21. Hey all, I've just got back into playing my original xbox and I've got XMBC4GAMERS set up on a new 2tb HDD. Can anyone advise on patching xbe game files using Linux so that i can take advantage of 128mb of RAM?
22. So about 12 years ago i bought a modded (x3) xbox from a guy on the neogeo forums. Worked fine for me for a couple years. Then one day it didn't. I bought it, used it, but did not build it. I had no idea what to do, was raising kids, etc So into the attic it went. A month ago my 20yo son pulled it out and asked if he could have it. Of course, but i didn't know why it wouldn't go into a dashboard anymore. And after a couple weeks, its found its wayback in front of me to provide some dad help. I've paid the upgrade fee here so i can spare myself the hours of searching the web for downloads for me to experiment with, but...i still don't see a download section anywhere. Logged out, logged back in, nothing. Is there even a dedicated section? Thanks
23. Hi dear xboxs friends, I want to know if anyone knows where to get this skin, I presumed that is for UnleashX, but I'm not sure, it's based on the old xbox website and I love the idea.
24. Hello, I need some help with my Xbox Classic 1.4. It`s modded with an Aladdin Advanced Chip. I decided to revieve my System as it only had 110GB IDE drive. I changed it to 2TB SATA drive and all worked fine. Except for one problem: I changed partitions with Hexen 2018 and began to copy files via FTP. The F partition was 1,7TB. As the time reaching 1TB of copied files I got write-errors. I figured out it`s because F is too big. So I partitioned F and G to 956 each (or something similar) with Hexen 2018s Xbpartioner 1.3. All worked fine but after reboot I saw that F was only 127GB wit Xbpartitioner 1.3 from HDD with error message that the BIOS does not support custom partitions. So I flashed the BIOS and this was the beginning of the end... After flashing the Xbox did not boot, just shows logo (used IND 5004) and after that the screen stays black. Since then the xbox does not boot from DVD. I flashed the flash chip with a Nano USB programmer with Evox.m8plus,fc.137MySpezialBlue.bin. After boot I see the blue xbox logo but I am still not able to boot from Hexen 2018 to reconfigure the HDD. Short time after the LED starts blinking red/green with error 07 on Screen. How can I make the Xbox boot from DVD again?? Thx for help in advance. Regards.
25. Hey y’all, I have softmodded og Xbox for 3 months ago and up untill today snes emulation was fine (nba jam, contra etc..) Today when I was playing contra iii the sound started lagging noticably -also the music and sounds scatter a bit or play twice instead of once. I tried rebooting and removing and replacing the rom. Didn’t work? Does anyone know what the cause of this problem is? is it fixable? thank you so much if you’re willing to help.
