About Me

  1. i, like many others, started having problems with my xbox after replacing the thermal paste. graphics glitching, freezing, frag'ing, and sometimes it would just go into a coma on me. it appears that the problem is that some of the solvent for cleaning the thermal paste gets underneath the gpu chip and causes a short. 1st off, i do not recommend replacing the thermal paste on these consoles but if u already have and are now having problems then here is how to fix it. get a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol with a squirt top on it(i suggest a quart bottle), hold the motherboard on it's side, and squirt the alcohol all over it. be certain that plenty is going under the gpu. next, take a hair dryer and dry the board very well. be careful not to get it too hot. a good rule of thumb is that if any part of the board is uncomfortable to lay your hand on and keep it there, then it is too hot and should be allowed to cool. next, sit the board in the xbox, hook up the psu, connect a tv and power on the system a few times to be certain that it appears to be working before full reassembly. BE CERTAIN TO REAPPLY THERMAL PASTE AND HEATSINKS BEFORE POWERING ON! i'm not certain that it will overheat the chips without the heatsinks for a quick test but it isn't worth the risk. this fixed my xbox that i was concerned i had forever killed.
  2. Hello to everyone in this forum, i am a new user here but a nearly lifelong fan of the OG Xbox, it was my first experience with a games console and it will always hold a place in my heart for that, but after having a few systems throughout my childhood, i thought i should seriously look into getting a system, one that will be the best fit for my needs, i know theres several different revisions but i'm thinking what i want my console for is probably very niche compared to most other users. So i'd feel like asking for my needs which revision is personally the best fit for me? So to start, what i want to do with my console is obviously play the games but i also want to watch DVDs on it (Yeah i still like to watch DVDs, they're just the most convenient method for me) and i liked using the ripping CDs feature for putting my favorite songs in certain games, so i'd like to do that, basically... i'm just gonna want something that will reliably play discs. As for modding, i am not interested much in mods, i havent really ever done any mods before, i did purchase a soldering set so in the future i could do things like that for many systems but really i dont think i'd be comfortable with opening one up, although knowing the whole clock capacitor problem i might have to. So if i had to do any modifications to the console it would only really be simple stuff to enhance the vanilla XBOX experience, obviously the caps but perhaps if its possible maybe a slightly larger hard drive for lots of music and game saves, just really nothing special or crazy, but i'm open to suggestions on recommended mods and tricks for my relatively mundane wants for an XBOX from the research i've done (and are still working on) i think the V1.4 revision from what i hear is good, but i think its in my best interest to ask people who truly know the system, i am aware of things like the early thompson drives as well as the previously mentioned caps issue but i want to be able to know what the best option is for me. Thank you
  3. Hey guys, so anyways I just got nxdk setup already on my windows laptop, but I want to write an emulator for the Xbox badly but how do I go from there? What programming languages does nxdk support? Should I write a basic emulator just to learn sdl2 or port a existing emulator over?
  4. If anyone has a non-working PSU they want to sell, Ill buy.
  5. Looking to sell my Xbox X3 for $250 plus shipping obo. Can send more pictures and answer any questions.
  6. Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and honestly to any forum of this type. I never really got into modding but have had the urge to do so now. Modern games dont do it for me. Either the constant attempts to take all your money, the games feeling repetitive, or beloved franchises being completely disrespected. I spent so much time complaining about games that i decided that i wanted to go back to a time when i actually enjoyed games. The orginal Xbox had every genre i could imagine and had many entries within the same franchise come out on it unlike what we see now where we are lucky to get one game in a franchise in a generation. Even though i played a ton of the original xbox there was so much i missed out on and i am looking forward to experiencing those things as if they were new. I am just glad i started my collection of games a really really long time ago and never got rid of them. Any good tips on where to pick up games where everything including the manual are intact but are not going to spend a fortune? Any recommendations on where is the best place to download games?

  9. Hey all. It’s time I start to get rid of some of my pickups over the past year or so. I have around 25 or so, fully working consoles that have all been cleaned and modded. Clock caps removed on all boards under 1.6. I have all different sizes of HDDs in both SATA and IDE from 80GB up to 2TB. SATA options will include the needed adapters and 80 wire cables from Kekule. Everything under 1.6 is TSOP or has a mod chip. Most chips are xecuter 2.3 & 2.6. Prices of course will vary depending on HDD size and type and wether they have a chip or not. Most of them are empty mods waiting for games and emulators of your choice. I can also add those if needed. Again everything is tested and working and will be a clean, fresh mod, without old game saves and such. Couple of these are Crystal edition. For those that just want soft mods, that can be arranged too if you’re not capable or don’t have the necessary tools to do so. I also have 3-4 PAL PSU in different models for those that acquire imports and need replacements LEDs are also optional for controller ports. I also have some pretty cool spare parts that don’t pop up very often. I’d much rather let them go here than dump them on FeeBay. Located in Virginia, USA. Feel free to send a DM or post here directly. Everything needs to go, but I’m not doing lowball deals.
  10. I have way more than I need, but I do have them in the off chance that a PCB is wanted instead of a manual rebuild. The fug was I thinking!?
  11. There's a tutorial I found on Wayback, but Wayback wasn't able to find all the pages for this mod. It's for using a PC drive on an XBOX. The DVD drive is an LG DRD-8160B. It's not similar in layout to the 8163B that there are drawings for. What I need are to locate the X and Z points on the DVD's pcb. This is all I've got...
  12. I am offering Aladdin XBlasts for sale. They use a 1MB SST, and have 512k, 256k and another 256k for the XBlast OS. I think a fair price is $25. Correct me if I'm wrong, for anybody in the know. Good morning, everybody.
  13. I've been working on a python app that's sort of a replacement for extract-xiso, plus some other features like CSO compression/decompression, iso scrubbing, attach xbe generation, and batch processing. I have it done for the most part besides being able to write a new xiso from a game folder, which I'd consider a pretty important thing to be able to do. This seems like the most complex task extract-xiso handles and the code for that program is honestly pretty hard for me to follow (I'm not fluent in C and it doesn't appear to be super well organized) so I'm looking for some more resources on the xiso format, how it's laid out, constraints, specs, and such.
  14. Hi, I'm looking for an Xbox debug kit. I thought about modding my current rig to run the proper requirements to have a working development environment, but I'd feel a bit more secure working on a proper piece of hardware to start developing and learning how to make homebrew. The current listings for these consoles are a bit insane(Seeing one being listed for almost $1,000) for my budget and I have no intent to ever get rid of it. I do have some things of value that I'd be willing to add for trade. - an Xecuter 3 - an X3 pro switch - 2 complete translucent clear ghost cases - 1 complete translucent red ghost case Doesn't hurt to try asking the community and I hope I can return back to the community with a debug kit. Thanks, Zerg
  15. Is there another place I can find ports of games to put on my xbox? I've gone through here: http://www.emuxtras.net/dlsystem/ Just looking for another great site that may have some other stuff to find. Thanks!
  16. Hey all, as the title implies I'm wondering if anyone has any extra PCBs for an ATX to Xbox 1.0 adapter, as posted by N64 Freak and available here: http://dirtypcbs.com/store/designer/details/7953/6277/xboxatx-zip The price for a batch of ~10 is a bit more than what I'm hoping to spend so curious if anyone's already purchased a batch inside the continental US and would be willing to ship one for a bit of a discount compared to buying from DirtyPCBs? Thanks for any info!
  17. I just picked up a 1.6 Xbox and it does not turn on. Whenever I hit the power button there is 3.3V, 5V and 12V all present for about 1 second then nothing. All standby voltages are good too. Idk whats wrong.
  18. I'm looking for a BAT file that takes .mp3 files from ResurrectionXtras's PC Engine CD romset and converts them to .wav format, the reason behind this is MednafenX-PCE doesn't get along with .mp3 files while emulating PCE-CD ROMS, what I mean by that is while in game the emulator plays through the first music or sound file in the folder for a few seconds then cuts to the next .mp3 file and basically do this all the time for every game and their respective mp3 files. If there isn't any bat file available to download, I would appreciate an easy and quick way to convert those files and edit the cue files by myself.

  20. What is the best way to play N64 games? I've been looking everywhere for this elusive EarthwormJames 212 pack. Is this still the best/most recent way to play?
  21. So, I have two Xboxes that I want to set up roughly the same way. One will be a back up as it has always been that. Ideally I would use the same type chips but that may not be the best given my situation. I know very little about the modding scene but I'm trying to figure it out. I can't even figure out where to buy chips yet lol. Every place seems to be out. The most important things to me are storing games on a bigger hard drive and the ability to play on insignia. Maybe some slight performance Tweeks too but honestly I'm pretty good rocking the stock unit. I have over 100 disks I would like to toss on the hard drive and then store the physical copies someplace safe. I will never use emulators or anything else on these systems. Xbox 1- My original system from 2001. It's a v1.0. Disk drive has failed and the hard drive is rumbly but still boots. The clock cap has been removed but it does have some trace issues with the power\eject button but has worked as is for the last several years. I just use the tray open button for everything based on length of press. The dead disk drive has shelved it for a while now. Xbox 2- found on the side of the road. Works perfectly. It's a v1.6 though so not ideal. I haven't opened it up yet but I assume it's all oem. I will be using this ones hard drive on the other one if needed for any reason. I am currently using this one as my primary though the other one has a custom case and I prefer it.
  22. I’m finishing up a custom Seattle Seahawks console for someone. The clear coat on the case is drying as it type this. Tomorrow I’ll install a dual color (green/blue) 80 LED kit, with on/off switches for each color. All that is left to do is the Jewel. I’ve been thinking for weeks now and can not decide on what to do with it. I don’t want to be lazy and leave it clear. The best thing i have come up with is blue with clear letters and that’s just lame to me All ideas are welcome. Some of them may get laughed at.
  23. As usual, they gouge you if you try to buy a rubber belt for the original Xbox if they actually call it a belt for the original Xbox. But I heard you could use 23mm or so rubber O rings from the plumber's section of a store. Since I loathe the idea of spending $3.00+ for 1 "official" OGXbox drive belt, what are the exact size measurements (or close to) for the actual OGXbox drive belts so I can attempt an approximation with a 10 for a buck O ring? I want to resurrect my Xbox's troublesome disc drive that refuses to come out of it's shell, like a shy turtle.
  24. Mainly the titel says it. I git a 360 today (pls don't throw old eggs at me for that :D ) which included a 512MB and a 256MB MU and i wonder if it would be possible to get one of those working on an OG XBox. Looks like both have a 5 pin design so there can't be that much of a different (except for the little "spacer" in the middle)?
