About Me

  1. I just read in Huang's "Hacking the Xbox" a warning that the fanless heatsinks are prone to overheating if operated without the disk drives installed over the motherboard. I was just about to replace my 1.0 GPU heatsink (with the fan) with the later, fanless, one with the idea that I'd reduce the noise. But now I'm having second thoughts, as I will not be replacing the disk drives over the motherboard. Can anyone offer me some sage advice on whether or not i should keep the 1.0 heatsink? I may end up shaving ~1" off the top for a slim build. Would this eliminate the potential risk of overheating?
  2. Hey guys, I've got a 1.6 Xbox that only spins the fan when I hold the power button. As soon as let off the power button, the fan stops. There's no video, and the xbox's eject light does not light up at all. The xbox last worked a few days ago. I unplugged it and when I plugged it back in, the above started. I've checked the motherboard and the power supply and there are no obvious burn marks or blown capacitors. I also checked the transistor next to the clock capacitor and it showed 3.25V when the power supply is plugged in. My one area of concern are the five 3300 uF capacitors next to the power supply connection on the motherboard. The tops look a tiny bit bulged. See the attached pics. Any suggestions on further troubleshooting steps? Should the five caps be replaced? Thanks for your help.
  3. Hello, I have an original Xbox v1.6 with a xenium modchip in it. It's been sitting for years and I finally got it kinda working. When I installed the modchip, I unplugged the fan from the motherboard and ran power wires from the molex connector to get some more power out of it. It works fine, just loud and pretty sure it's not needed. I took it off the molex setup and plugged it back into the stock location on the motherboard but the fan never spins. I also noticed in my xecutor dashboard, the temps never change. Any ideas what could be causing the issue? Thanks in advance!
  4. i chipped my xbox but i really don't like having the fan set to a static setting. i want the system to be able to change the speed of the fan as the temps of the cpu/gpu change. how do i do this?
  5. Hello, I hadn't owned an og xbox in maybe 12 years! I was huge fan when it came out and thought it was head and shoulders above the PS2 and Gamecube graphically. And honestly, I think its probably the most powerful system ever at its launch, or close to it. Unexpectedly I bought a soft modded one a few months back dirt cheap at a yard sale. Supposedly the seller's son left it behind because he didn't have room for it in his Seattle apartment. Anyway, it has a 2tb harddrive with pretty much everything installed, emulators and most of the xbox games. I really like it. I honestly felt bad about buying it, but his mom said he's been home twice since he left and just never even bothered getting it. The disc drive is broken but it does the job with all the installed games. Stlll familiarizing myself with it, I've FTP' over a few more games and looking to replace the Surreal 64 emulator to the Earthworm pack. Just not sure how to go about it without messing anything up. I'll see you guys around the forums.
  6. Beeps, light and fan then off with no beep on for around 1 second? Xbox one s 1TB, push power button light beep and fan on then shuts off with no beep. i have looked online at possible causes and solutions. So far I have stripped it down to carry out some tests on the power supply and power rails/ apu mosfets hdmi leads all ok? power port ok apu mosfets ok fan ok does anyone have any links to video tutorials that give an in sight in to fault finding and full diagnostics of their mother boards? I find that all people start with some really great info and fault diagnostics testing then wrap it all up when they replace a mosfet rather than going on to lead you around the board say for example it’s not the mosfet then we test x,y z and so on until you have done a full diagnostics. also does anyone have links to test points and maybe a diagram any advice or support will help what are reading of the multimeter supposed to be can they differ on different boards? i have a keen interest to learn and absorb all relevant information related to fixing all consoles your knowledge and expertise would be great and hugely appreciated. please note I have tried to do the manual trouble shoot diagnostics hold button trick with no avail also tried a different hdmi lead and hair drier trick again with no avail. please help guys thanks in advance
  7. What's the best replacement fan to make the Xbox run quieter?
  8. Hi all! I think I'm in the right place. First bought this awesome console back in May 2002 as a gift to myself for finishing college (4 years late but I finished!) Became a big video game fan on and off ever since. Having this in 02 made me buy a PS2 as a birthday gift that summer. I'm a Sony and MS game console guy. Just recently picked up my OG Xbox from ebay and now I watched some videos to take it apart. I got a 1.6 and wanted to check how its guts look. I want to post pics to get opinions or a diagnosis from you experst if I should go any further with taking it apart. It's playing fine and hooked up to my 1080p Vizio via HDMI. Hope to talk to some of you and get some direction where to post my pics. Thanks!
  9. Hello, everyone, I have updated xbmc4gamers to include it on partition F. I also downloaded the FanArt package for xbox games but even though they are active only 2 games have images. Where can I see the partition where the FanArt was downloaded, and especially where should I place them to have all the images and covers of my xbox titles? Thanks to everyone.
  10. Hello Everyone I am looking to do a slim xbox mod. I noticed some people add two fans to their xbox slim systems to keep the system cool. TechnoOnTop on youtube for example put mesh over holes he had cut on the top of his case and added a second fan. Does anyone know if this is necessary. And if so, are there good splitters to connect both fans to the motherboard. I was thinking something like this. https://www.amazon.com/JBtek-Black-Sleeved-Splitter-Converter/dp/B01EF9OI0O/ref=asc_df_B01EF9OI0O/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309707619534&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10057312173843895006&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004252&hvtargid=aud-801381245258:pla-760665316512&psc=1 Please give me feedback on temperatures and cooling on an og xbox slim. What has worked for others who have done this?

    Change Fan Speed

Hi, how do you change the fan speed on an xbox that has a bios M8 Plus?
  12. I've seen mods that replace the CPU and GPU heatsinks with fan heatsinks (like the Iceberq 4 Pros). I want to do the same thing to my console, but I'm not sure where I could connect them. I have a 1.0 motherboard, so I could use the original CPU fan connector to power one. But where do I power the other? I've seen people use the exhaust fan connector to power one of the fans. How is that done, while still being able to use the exhaust fan too? Could I safely use a 3 pin y splitter on the CPU fan connector to power both CPU and GPU fan heatsinks? Or if I wanted to use a 3 pin splitter for the exhaust fan and GPU fan heatsink, would that be safe as well? Also, I would like to install 2 sets of LED lights. One would be 2 pin and the other would be 4 pin. Where could I connect these to power them safely? Everything is 12 volt. And I would rather not do any soldering. If I have to solder, i would rather it be wire to wire soldering and not directly to PSU or motherboard.
  13. Hi all, glad to be here. I'm a long time games fan and recently decided to look into modding some of my old consoles.. Great community you have here and I look forward to learning more about how the Xbox works!
