    Fixing Error 16

I have an original xbox that has the dreaded error 16. I researched fixing this many years ago and at the time seemed like too much trouble. I'm wondering if there are any new methods that don't require a second HDD to swap back and forth? From my most resent research it sounds like there might be a way to bypass the issue to fix it using a dvd? Any help would be appreciated!
  2. Good afternoon people!! Guys can someone help me fix my Xbox it was working normally but with a while XBMC started to crash very often not only it but the games too until it crashed with an error 09. One hour you turn it on and it works more crashes after one time and another he already gives the error. It already crashed with the following errors 07,08,09,13 and 21. and apparently "Partition E" is self-corrupting causing the video game to run out of dash and causing the error. Does anyone know how to fix this error, My HD is a 500gbs Western WD Green. https://www.mediafire.com/file/z51tk6qossm3y3t/20221101_151404.mp4/file https://www.mediafire.com/file/k77g7gwuueaike7/20221101_151441.mp4/file https://www.mediafire.com/file/ubbwh7pj0ysu7lj/20221101_151458.mp4/file
  3. The CDDB database that was active when XBMC 3.5.3 came out is no longer up. There are others out there. But I need to know how to change the server. With kodi, you can modify the advancedsettings.xml, but I see no such file for the xbox version. Any way to do this?... Or am I gonna be browsing my CD's by "Unknown Artists" and rocking out to "Track 1, Track 2, and Track 3"?
  4. it's possible that Lynx runs fine on Windows 8.1 because I downloaded it and it was apparently fine but when I embedded several files inside the XZP file corrupted, and when I embedded only one file inside the XZP got buggy
  5. Hi Guys; I have picked up a faulty XBOX over the weekend which has an error 5 code. I removed the drive and connected to my PC with FatXplorer and I am able to view the contents of the drive. Which means obviously it is unlocked. Is there any way I can lock the hard drive and re-install it in the XBOX? What options do I have?
  6. I went and tried to move files around so I could be xbmc emustation on drive E as I had it on F. Now when I boot up the xbox I get a fatal error message "special://masterprofile/guisettings.xml, Line 0 failed to open file" Now am I completely ruined or can I just somehow boot back to a dashboard and reinstall xbmc emustation?
  7. Thank you everyone in advance for all the help. I was given an Xbox and it doens't work, showed error code 07, I assumed dead hard drive so I wanted to do a hard mod. I have an early revision Xbox, just installed the Aladdin XT hard mod with EvoX BIOS, the install was a success and I get the logo in the top left on boot, followed by an error code 07. I have tried a few different things as I know that is the result of a hard drive time out. I've tried multiple IDE hard drives, known good IDE cable, known good DVD drive, I've unplugged the hard drive data cable and it still shows error code 07. I have a Hexen 2020 disc at the ready burned using Windows built in tool. I have ordered a few things; IDE to SATA converter to test with a known good SATA drive, and 80 wire IDE cable. Please let me know what I should try next. I am starting to believe the hard drive is actually fine, because when I unplugged the data cable it did not switch to an error code 8. Thank you!
  8. Got an v1.6 softmodded xbox (with non ejecting dvd drive) that i thought I could turn into a devkit system. Using MVG's 2018 Youtube video. But all i got was a bricked xbox. When i was supposed to start the pbl from the E: the xbox froze. And after a restart the xbox error 21 was present. I then fixed the drive belt on my dvd drive, so i now can eject and insert dvd's but no luck starting slayers-evox or any of my original xbox game. I didnt backup up the eeprom files. On the E: drive there was already present some similar PBL files - so i copied these to my pc before overwriting with MVG ones : ( boot.cfg, M8_LBA48_IGR_Q-06-BFM.bin, xbdm.dll, default.xbe (21kb), dashboard.xbx ) Is there a way to make this xbox come back alive ?
  9. Hello there, I'm hoping to receive some help from you fine experts. First time modding an Xbox and unfortunately I think I made a blunder. Ended up with a service required error 21 screen and discs will not boot. After softmodding with Rocky5's tools I copied over Xblast OS and Cerbios to my C drive. Now the C drive partition was extremely small and wouldn't fit the bios bin so I temporarily removed what looked like some Japanese language files, I suspect this is why I'm receiving the error. Didn't have a mod disc, plan was to just FTP everything over. Was attempting a TSOP for the first time, and I had a Sharp model motherboard so I tried once and got no boot then decided to undo my bridges and just go the modchip route. I should also mention I recapped the CPU and removed the clock capacitor, I don't think this would cause such an error but other people might know better. So after undoing my TSOP bridges I was met with the error screen, whoops. So trying to salvage this, I don't have really any spare parts to try swapping, I suspect the route forward is to buy an IDE interface for my PC to reformat the HDD. Or would it be possible to just install a modchip at this point since I intend to install a large sata drive anyways. I did backup the eeprom and nullify the hdd key as well. Any advice/words of wisdom on how to proceed greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  10. I softmodded my original Xbox with Rocky5 through Splinter Cell. I used chimp to clone the stock drive to a 320GB IDE drive, and everything was working great with UnleashX. I again used chimp to clone that drive to a 1TB drive using a SATA adapter which also worked through hours of gaming. I recently tried to play Halo CE using the disc, and about 10 minutes in, the game froze up. The Xbox booted up after restarting, but was really slow. I tried to clear the cache, and that froze. When I re-booted, I got an error 11. I replaced the disc drive, and got an error 16. I couldn't find the old OEM drive, but I did find my old 320GB drive which loaded up no problem. I used Chimp to repair the Error 16 on my 1TB drive, and after that, I got an Error 13. If I put in Halo 2, or Hexen 2018, it goes to an error 14. I went back to my old 320GB, loaded up Hexen 2018, and used the "Krayzie One-Click Softmod Installation". After that, I cloned to the 1TB drive, in hopes to get past the error 13, and still get error 13 on the 1TB. Back at the now "Krayzie" 320GB drive, when I try to launch the MS Dashboard through UnleashX, I get "Unable to launch "c:xboxdash.xbe". File does not exists." I copied the MSDASH files to the c drive, now I'm able to launch the MS Dashboard, and used Halo 2 to upgrade my dash. I've tried cloning to 3 different drives, tried different cables, and each time I get Error 13 on the drives I try to copy. On each of those cloned drive, putting in a disc goes to Error 14. Any help to figure out how to get this 320GB drive to clone to my old 1TB drive would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Im quite embarassed to have to admit this, but im finding some of this modding stuff quite difficult dispite being an electrical/electronic engineer and have worked as a technician a various roles for over 30 years.Maybe its my age?I have got myself in a jam, I wanted to remove xbmc emustation and go back to unleash (sorry) but i was struggling to get emustation to work.Ive ended up with the Fatal error msg. (XBMC Fatal Error:No suitable skin version foundWe require at least version 2.1000IP Address: 192.168.0.6Starting FTP server...)Further more prior to this, i have been struggling to make a ISO image of extras disc.everytime ive downloaded it from git hub 613mb, when i try to unzip it i get an error msg from winzip?also if i try to make an ISO image and open zip file with imgburn or similar the folder appears to be empty?what am i doing wrong?from the XBMC Fatal error screen, can i just drag and drop something to rescue this from pcp using FTP client.I want to weep!!!! Paul B aka Masterbateson p.s. Just found out there is a slight fly in my ointment, in as much as when i fished out my laptops DVD drive, i found out its only a ROM so untill i can sort something out I cant burn a disc.I was kinda hoping I could FTP the missing files to the HDD or boot from my Memory stick, i was hoping like when ive recovered a pc b4 using a recovery image on a usb drive.Guess Xbob doesnt play like that.suppose im going to have to find somewhere to burn a disc, annoying thing is Ive several old full size dvd re writers kicking about in the attic. Thanks again for help, will sort disc out 1st b4 i try anything else.cheersMrB
  12. Hi all. I posted this question in the X-S Discord a day or two ago and haven't made any headway in resolving the issue, so I'll post here and see if anyone may be able to help. A few days ago, I acquired a "non-working" 1.2/1.3 that had never been opened but externally was very clean. When I received it, I immediately opened it up to pull the clock capacitor and clean it up. Aside from the clock cap, the polymer caps were all leaking, as well as the caps near the CPU/GPU. I cleaned and recapped the entire board before ever attempting to power it up. After the initial cleaning and repair, I finally attempted to boot to be greeted with error 21. Since I went in blind, without any idea of what was actually wrong with the system, I just assumed the dash may have possibly been wrecked from a previous softmod/user error or something, so I opted to start by installing a fresh copy of the MS Dash files via FATXplorer. I got it back together, booted, and got error 16, which was expected. I then installed an x2.3b lite to get around the clock check, but rather than booting to the dash as it should, it just hangs at the Xbox logo splash screen. At this point I tossed in Doom 3 to see if it would load a disc, and it did begin to load the game, however it immediately froze as it was began to write the initial cache data to the HDD. I decided the HDD might just be crapping out after all, so I substituted a known good working drive from another system and this is where things get weird... The system will read the x2config.ini from the second HDD (evidenced by the fact that it can and does read, load, and apply the LED and fan settings from the INI file), but was exhibiting the same problem. It just hangs at the Xbox logo splash screen instead of loading XBMC. If I lock any of the drives and try to boot from the retail bios, I go right back to error 21 again... Just to check my sanity, I tested and confirmed all the individual drives and parts work fine in another system. Also, while performing the testing in the working system, I reformatted and "factory reset" the OEM HDD using OGXbox Installer 1.5.4 just to eliminate myself and any possibility of my wrong-doing from the equation. In the working system, MS Dash loads as it should. If I move the HDD back to the problematic system, error 21. After trying various combinations of 4 HDDs, 2 DVD drives, 3 different IDE cables, 2 power supplies, both with and without a modchip, I still cannot get beyond error 21 or the system freezing... I think it's weird that I can boot into Xblast from the chip, format, lock, unlock, and read the S.M.A.R.T data from the drives without issue. It's weird that it will read the x2config.ini from the drives, but based on the observed behavior, it seems like any other HDD I/O causes it to crap itself, and ultimately all roads have led to error 21. At any rate, I am out of ideas on what else to try and any suggestions or help are, of course, greatly appreciated.
  13. I got a free Xbox v1.0 that had Error 21. I cleaned the board, replaced the clock cap with one I bought online (no leakage), installed an Aladdin XT Plus 2 modchip, and used TrueHeXen 2021 to erase the hard drive and install UnleashX. Now, the console turns on without giving an error, but this is where the real pickle is: 1. Trying to boot MS DASH from the menu brings up Error 21 2. Trying to load Burnout 3 (an Xbox Live game) freezes as it loads. 3. Trying to change dashboards (I.e. UnleashX to XBMC4Gamers) ALWAYS fails with an error and no description. This is both with the TrueHeXeN disk or from within UnleashX. As some additional background, it’s a 1.0 and I cannot flash a 512kb BIOS, and it actually says “BIOS: Unknown” in the TrueHeXen disk. I’ve also tried clearing the cache to see if that’s preventing the game from running and it’s not that.
  14. chimp clones to new HDD with out problems but i get error 16 when i put in the new drive after cloning. i tried the 'fix error 16' button in chimp, it said it was good but when i put back in the new HDD i still get Error 16. The stock 10GB HDD i got with the xbox still works if i connect it. i then tired booting the xbox with the 10GB HDD then turning off the xbox and putting in the new HDD but then i got error 13. plz help i already spent like 70$$ on this shit. my xbox is soft modded i removed the clock capacitor i have a compatible HDD, 40-pin/80-wire IDE cables, a working SATA to IDE converter Thank you
  15. I recently purchased a pre-mod with a TSOP mod and evox m8+ bios ( i think) and after an IGR it will stall on the boot screen, then go to red light and give the 07 error. Doing a cold boot it does this same stall for a few seconds but then boots into emustation. Any ideas why it fails only on the IGR? thanks.
  16. Folks, thanks for letting me tap the vast knowledge here, yet again. I have 3 issues and hope to get at least one figured out, thanks for any help you can give. I didn't have much luck in the search, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat topic, but I'm sure KaosEngineer will prove me wrong yet again #1 Video playback lags in both XBMC and XBMC4XBOX on 2 different V1.6 softmod boxes. I've tried several formats, .avi, .mp4, .m4v, etc., they all open and play, but either have bad/scrambled video, slowed down playback but audio remains normal, and things just don't run like they should (or as I would expect). In XMBC4XBOX, for example, I've tried all the "video" settings I can see, such as pixel shredder, flicker filter, skip loop filter, etc. The same files work fine on my desktop and laptop, nothing wrong with the files I'm trying to watch. -Am I using a bad program, is there a better video player? I'm considering, naively, upgrading to a SSD.... #2 Is there a plain, straight forward tut for video output upgrade, like switching to HDMI or improving from the 480 (or whatever the standard video output is) with a softmod? #3 Far less pressing, on a recent softmod of a v1.6, I get an MS error 07 when I use the restart/reboot action from the dashboard and other apps that offer a restart. It only happens on restarts, I can turn the unit off then on, and NOT get the error, so as of now it's just a minor inconvenience, but makes me wonder why it occurs. New 80pin IDE cable, used in both directions (blue end on mobo and black on hhd, as well as the reverse) and sure to plug them in tightly and completely. Using a 1tb seagate that is listed on the compatibility chart as working. here's the sata-ide adapter I'm using https://www.ebay.com/itm/154372204735 Thanks for the help!
  17. I'm running a 1.6 Xbox, M8+ and UnleashX. I have a 500GB SSD and have transferred over about 250gb of games so far, and only have four left. Whenever I try to transfer over any game directory, I get this result from FileZilla. It repeats this process for every file in the folder until I cancel the transfer. This happens when I try to write to F:\games, but Interestingly enough, I'm able to transfer games over to my 5gb E:\ partition just fine. I've tried Windows' built-in FTP browser, but had no luck there either. Any knowledge on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Error 13 ind-bios

When I originally soft modded the XBOX i loaded it with indi bios and TSOP it with a liquid wire glue trace as me being very short sighted and shaky handed DIDNT’ want to destroy the board soldering. for a long time at first boot it would go to just black screen with the words IND BIOS then to XBMC-EMUSTATION all of a sudden NOW I have the original flubber that goes white and then error 13. I can get over this by holding eject button at boot which then goes straight to the dash what am I doing wrong model V1.2/ v1.3. Made in China, 2003, week:36 line:5.
  19. For some reason when I turn on the Xbox I am greeted with the error code 05 (unlocked hard drive). But I thought an unlocked hard drive was usable with a mod chip installed? - Re-soldered the wires from the D0 point, BT point mod chip flashed red, BT is joined to the mod chip so it is always on. Despite all of this the Xbox boots up displaying the error code 05. and no sign of the chip working its magic. Thanks, Pez.

    Error 16

Hi guys, I recently put a aladdin chip in a xbox with a 2tb and it worked fine. Now the xbox gives me an error 16. When i put in a recovery disc the xbox is booting forever in the bootscreen with linux. I tried another aladdin chip, openxenium chip, resolder the d0 and pinheader, tried d0 on screwpoint on the bottomside of the motherboard, tried another dvd drive, another hdd, another ide cable. Anyone an idea?
  21. I'm attempting to use the 720p hacked xbe from the ogx disc and i'm getting an error (in 720p no less) that the disc is dirty. Does this xbe need to be patched to run from the HD?

  23. Hello Friends. I need some help: my Original Xbox 1.6 (has an aladdin modchip and 500GB SATA HD) used to work very well. Suddenly one day it started to show error 13. Now I realized that it only works when I connect the HD on the middle connector of the IDE cable and the DVD drive on the end connector (this way it works correctly). If I connect the normal way (DVD in the middle connector and HD in the end connector) it shows error 13. I am using the stock IDE cable and I tested other 40 wire IDE cable and the result is the same. Does anybody know why this is happening? Is this happening because I am not using a 80 wire IDE cable? But it used to work with this stock cable. Can somebody help me to understand this problem?
  24. Got an open xenium board which I wanted to add LCD with when installing, already ordered daughter board for spi2par2019 and on its way through UPS. While waiting for this, I thought I'd compile and upload spi2par2019.ino to the Arduino Pro Micro Leonardo board I got but getting the following error towards the end of the compilation. 25. Hello Team. I have run into something unique I have never seen before. I just hard modded a friends OG Xbox (v1.0) and everything went swimmingly. Although his original DVD drive (Thomson Okmco Shenzhen) would not read discs before the hard mod (pretty common issue of course), it would open and close and the Xbox booted just fine. I used a working Samsung DVD drive to work the modding magic and I had no issues with any part of it. The TSOP is an ST. After the hard mod and BIOS flash, I put his original DVD drive back in the unit. Now, however, the unit will not boot with the original DVD drive installed. It throws error 13. If I replace that drive with a different DVD drive (also a Samsung), it boots just fine and everything works. If I put the Thomson DVD in another v1.0 with a Hynix TSOP, it boots just fine. Has anyone seen an issue where the DVD model causes the unit to not be able to load the dashboard (at least that is what error 13 is I believe) after a modification? I am guessing the TSOP chip has something to do with it. This is more of a "huh" moment as obviously the unit is fine with the other DVD drive connected and I can just use that. Just curious if anyone else has seen this issue. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
