  1. Hey guys! I've got a couple boxes I threw some SSDs into recently and they don't load the dash, but as it says on the tin, only every OTHER time I turn it on. Startup works normally up until AFTER the "X" logo. Either the LED will stay solid green, and the screen will just be completely black forever (to be fair, only ever left it for about and hour while I was doing other stuff for giggles) OR the LED goes solid red like I've set it and loads UnleashX A-okay. Things both run like a champ in this state, haven't seen anything unusual, even the temps are great with stock paste. This happens with: - 2 brand new ADATA ASU655SS-480GT-C units, both of which were cloned from an IDE-based box with a 750GB seagate. The system they were cloned from was 1.6, softmodded with SID5, then upgraded to Rocky5. No issues on that console. These drives have NOT been tested in other functional consoles. Yet. - Three 80-wire IDE cables, two of which were running active duty in other consoles prior to testing and one of which died for some reason during the test. - Four IDE-SATA adapters - an HDE, a Startech IDE2SAT, and 2 Startech IDE2SAT2s (I haven't gone through the trouble of comparing ALL adapter and cable combos but at this point I don't think it matters) - A 1.4 and 1.6 version console - UnleashX Version 0.39.0528A Build 584, as installed by Rocky5's softmod The fact that the LED stays green on the failed boot seems like the system somehow things everything is normal and the SSD has just... stopped? Somewhere? I'm not sure. I think maybe this could be related to the BIOS or DVD drive, as both consoles are only softmodded. I plan to TSOP the 1.4 anyway, but I can't TSOP the 1.6 or (easily) remove its DVD drive, which I'm not inclined to do anyway as it works great. Wondering if anyone had some suggestions I perhaps haven't tried yet. Thanks so much for any and all assistance!
  2. Just completed softmodding an Xbox I picked up, 500gb Sata drive installed and tomorrow hopefully Tsoping it. It's been my favourite console since release and at 46 I should probably be doing other things than farting about modding a console but......here we are. So, Hello (UK)
  3. Hi all got several Sega games that I just can't get to load from my HDD. most notably Jest Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Gunvalkyrie. I know they all have an issues with the v.1.6 but I`m using a tsop V.1.4 with an up to date UnleashX as main dashboard. for each game I have tried different sources of ISO's and Redumps but all versions act the same way. the game Freezes on Sega logo (Jest Set) or when loading first level (Gunvalkyrie, Panzer) tried to load them trough different dashboards (XBMC4GAMERS, emustation etc) to no avail. been reading all relevant discussions and couldn't find another example of this problem, nor a solution, so it must be something with my console's configuration. any ideas? some pics of my board and settings https://photos.app.goo.gl/iEzaFfu6n2dcFvgp8 any help will be appreciated, been struggling with this for quite some time now. Tnx!
  4. I know people get really tired of hearing this debate, but I'd like to make my position as clear as possible once and for all. First and foremost: The reason the LPC exists on the Xbox motherboard is because the TSOP is soldered to the board blank, and programmed via the lpc port later in the manufacturing process. When the TSOP is blank, the xbox then looks to the LPC for a bios image to boot. This is because a pre-programmed rom is more expensive than a blank eeprom (TSOP in this case). It also allowed Microsoft to more easily update the bios image in new Xboxes for whatever reason. So we know that they would have to retool the LPC programming device if they disconnected some LPC points. This new tool would need to be incredibly fine because the point it needs to make contact with is no longer a nice big pad. Since nobody can find a 1.5, this retooling would have been for just a handful of motherboards. So they would have gone through this expense of retooling for such a tiny amount of boards it wouldn't have made any sense. Next, what exactly did the alleged 1.5 board prevent? It ONLY would slow down mod chip installation. I say slow down because any knucklehead with a DMM could figure out how to get it working again. It does absolutely nothing to stop soft modding or TSOP flashing. Why would Microsoft go to such an expense to stop only one method of modding the Xbox? I don't doubt that people have found LPC points that show no continuity. This could be because of the very programmer I mentioned at the beginning of this post. It could be due to trace rot. It could be due to operator error in measuring the components. Whatever the reason for a person measuring this situation, I don't believe it was a particular version of motherboards that Microsoft intended to put out. We saw with the 1.6, where it DID come with a pre-programmed rom (so no TSOP) on the board that they could finally disconnect the LPC. That's why we have to rebuild it there. It is perfectly consistent. It stops TSOP mods. It stops modchips for noobs. It required a new bios that supported the new video encoder. I think they believed they could use updates on game disks and Xbox Live to patch the softmods. So they thought they had all the bases covered with 1.6. I got my information from the Xbox-Linux Project. They published an article on Xbox Security which I preserved on this site. "Now other people found out that, if the flash chip is completely missing, the Xbox wants to read from a (non-existant) ROM chip connected to the (serial) LPC bus. This is of course because of the manufac- turing process: As it has been explained before, the flash chip gets programmed in-system, the first time they are turned on, using an external LPC ROM chip. Modchip makers soon developed chips that only needed 9 wires and connected to the LPC bus. It was enough to ground the data line D0 to make the Xbox think that flash memory is empty. Lots of these “cheapermods” appeared, as they only consisted of a single serial flash memory chip. They could be installed within minutes, especially after some companies started shipping chips that used pogo pins, so that no soldering was required. Some groups wrote applications like boot menus that made it possible to copy games to hard disk and run them from there. Patched Xbox kernels ap- peared that supported bigger hard disks. Making the Xbox run copies from DVD-R or hard disk as well as homebrew applications written with the official Xbox SDK was now easy." https://www.ogxbox.com/archive/xboxsecurity.html It's under the "Modchips" heading.
  5. is upgrading the hdd the main reason for doing a tsop flash/modchip? will a basic softmod allow me to ftp and install dlc and do basicly everything but upgrade the hdd?
  6. I was trying to transfer games through FTP using FileZilla in Linux Mint 19.3 to my Soft Modded Xbox which has a 1TB WD SATA HDD (model: WD10JPVX). I configured the Xbox Network settings to a maximmum of 5 users and FileZilla to 4. Every time I tried to tranffer a file, the user counter on the Xbox went up to 5 and FileZilla started showing errors. So I booted Windows 10 with FileZilla. Still, had the same problem. Anyway, I deleted a Game Folder (4gb) from the "G" partition. Suddenly the Message Log window started showing a list of errors. When it finish, I went to the "Games" section on the Xbox and there where no games and the "G" partition which is about 800GB (I believe), had only 4GB free. So I though the the partition was corrupted. I decided to go to the format menu on UnleashX and format the "G" partition. After formating, the "G" partition sowed its true size. So I used "WinSCP" instead of FileZilla to transfer the files. Everyhting was good. It did transfer a lot of games, till I got an error: "Copying files to remote side failed. /G/Games/filename* Directory not found. At this point I had 560 GB free in the "G" partition. Someone suggested to do a clean install and wipe the disk. So I followed a youtube tutorial by Mr. Mario. Put the stock HDD back, Hot Swap the 1TB HDD as slave, started Chimp 261812 and it said that the slave hdd (1TB softmodded) was lock. So I tried to unlock the HDD with all the options given by Chimp and it remain lock. The options were: Unlock... From Motherboard From /tmp/eeprom.bin From Master password: XBOXSCENE From Master Password: TEAMASSEMBLY From /tmp/hddkey.txt So I retrieve the Stock HDD and put the 1TB Back in and... now the xbox wont boot. It says: Service required. Call Customer Service. I don't know if the HDD is faulty... I tried to run a test by putting the HDD into my laptop but it ask for a HDD Master Password and tried XBOXSCENE and TEAMASSEMBLY but they were invalid. I don't know what elese to do. Don't know how to unlock it or if its Faulty at this point. Should I buy a 2TB at this point? I don't know which 2TB model would work...
  7. So guys, now finally after more than a month waiting, I finally got my Sata to IDE adapter. So, I am finally ready to clone my old HDD to the new one. The problem now, is that when I start chimp, I get a black screen. Thing is, if anyone in the forum knows me, I am from Chile, and I converted my ONLY original composite cable and converted it into a very amazing Component cable, using an original 360 component cable. So... I know that the problem Chimp gives me, is because I must use a composite cable. What do I do know? I know there is a way to clone the Xbox HDD using Windows, but I cannot remember how to do that. Cheers friends, and thank you. Edit: Now that I think off, I do have 1 cheap component cable and the left over of my original composite. Is gonna be a pain in the ass, but anyone has a composite cable diagram?
  8. So I got a STartech Sata to IDE adapter and successfully made and locked a new SATA 500 GG hard drive using HDM v1.9. i got an 80 pin cable and connected my SATA drive and sure enough it booted to the Xbox dashboard. I had my Rocky 5 softmod files and Splinter Cell diskready to go but I can’t load Splinter Cell - I get a message reading - “Your Xbox cannot recognize this disc. Make sure it’s an Xbox game, DVD movie, or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged.” I have tried a different dvd drive from another Xbox that I know loads the game and I get the same message. In fact I get the same message if I try to load any other Xbox game disk. Any ideas greatly appreciated
  9. Make yourselves comfy this is kinda a doozy I am totally new to the OGXB modding scene. I recently picked up a Crystal Xbox at a used games store, and the guy there told me that it had been modded and has some emulators. He really doesn't know very much about modding so he couldn't give me a lot of info about what had been done to it, but since it was only $50 I snagged it. He even threw in a free game as well, so I went with the 1st Splinter Cell, (which I knew would come in handy for the Linux exploit if/when I needed to run it) Now that I can dig around in it here's what I DO know: It is a 1.6 XB (kernel 5838) It has EvolutionX 3935 It says the BIOS version is UNKNOWN (not sure if that's just from it having EvolutionX) It is an NTSC model (from Canada I believe? The power supply on the back says 100 V - 127 V ~ 2.1A ... 50/60 HZ) What I DON'T know is: Has it been softmodded or modchipped? (Haven't had time to disassemble it to check, not sure if there is a way to tell without disassembly. However I DID notice that the Linux save file for the SC exploit is already on the console, not sure if that means it has been only been softmodded though) Can I switch from EvolutionX to UnleashX? (just preference, figure it will depend on if it is chipped or only softmodded) AND is there a way to run backups without swapping a HDD? (I do plan to swap it sometime once I have some fun money, the Lock is still Enabled) EDIT: I also don't know about the state of the clock capacitor, being a 1.6 I know I need to check that I also CANNOT go to the MS Xbox Dash from EvolutionX (ERROR 21) RIght now the Xbox works well (although I probably need to replace the rubber band in the disk drive soon because sometimes I have to give it love taps to open) but I really just want to be able to run emulators (which it already does) play backups, and do an HDD swap sooner or later. Since I bought this console already modded in some capacity I just don't know exactly what's been done to it and what I will be able to do since it is a 1.6. Any help is really appreciated
  10. LOL. Well here is some of my collection. I am a bit unorganized so don't judge..LOL My wife calls me a hoarder...Silly woman. I am in the process of cleaning up and organizing the collections very soon though. So this could be a before and after scenario. Enjoy.
