  1. Hi all, I replaced the three CPU capacitors with new replacements and now the Xbox doesn't boot... just a dark screen. I'm going to assume I must have burned the contact points when removing the old caps. Is the motherboard a brick? russlb
  2. Hello I have a Duox2 lying here. Unfortunately, it cannot be deleted or flashed again. It appears to be an original one. There were also many clones. I have a few of those and they can be flashed via flasher disk or xblast. Unfortunately not this one. I'm at a loss. Maybe one of you has an idea.
  3. Hi, I'm trying to repair my xbox v1.6 with a Delta 220v PSU because it doesn't power on at all(even the fan isn't spinning). Backstory: the xbox stopped working all of a sudden(it worked just the day before even with the leaked/bulging caps), so thinking that maybe the power and eject buttons got broken, I tried to turn it on by shorting the SW1 Eject or SW2 Power(I can't remember which) to GND according to this diagram of the front panel connector. I don't think this was a good idea since the xbox didn't turn on and I heard a small spark but I'm not totally sure. Now from the PSU, not plugged into the motherboard(so in stand-by I guess), I get a ~5v reading from the orange wires but 0.1v from the blue wire(which should be 3.3v even on stand-by according to this table) and ~0 volts from the other 3.3v and 12v rail as it should be. Moving on to the motherboard, after removing all the bad capacitors, I still get a short between the 5v rail and ground(measuring the pins of psu connector on the motherboard). I also tried measuring the caps under the CPU(starting from C2P1 to C2P17) and they're all shorted to ground. The caps C2E2 and C1E1 too. Also, measuring the VRM(?) FAN5059M I'm getting a short on the pins(apart from GND) 2_SW, 6_VID2, 8_VID0, 20_VFP. All this leds me to believe that the CPU is fried but I can't really wrap my head around how I could have done that, is there something I'm missing/misunderstanding? 4. Hi everyone, I'm new here. Long story short. I'm trying to install MakeMhz XboxHD+ Hdmi Mod to my Xbox with 1.6v motherboard and 2TB HDD. I'm stuck with BIOS patching. Patched BIOS gives coma Console issue. All I get is steady green light on Xbox and black screen. All patching was done following official MakeMhz guide with EvTool 1.0.9 and correct ips file. Unpatched BIOS works just fine. I'm using Evox M8+ 16 Bios with OpenXenium modchip. Can't figure out what I'm missing. Tried different Bios'es. Also tried Using my old Aladdin Chip with same result. After patch is applied and flashed, I'm getting coma console. Also EvTool 1.0.9 won't recognize patched BIOS, gives me Unsupported kernel error. BIOS that I've tried to use, MD5 Checksum matches (as per MakeMhz website). Any help would be much appreciated. As I've been trying to work it out for two weeks now.
  5. Hi, I managed to buy a PAL copy of THPS4 and a USB adapter for my Xbox, thought my old rooted phone would work with it. Sadly, there is an issue with it that I wouldn't have thought of before. This particular phone seems to host a partition with USB drivers automatically - for example, when I plug it into a PC it shows up as a CD-ROM which allows you to install the USB drivers. In DriveDroid this driver image seems to take up the first image slot out of the three available and I can't get rid of it in any way. Clicking eject only clears the slot for a couple of seconds, then it hosts the image again. Even with a 16 MB empty image hosted in a different slot the Xbox keeps saying that my drive is corrupted. Any idea how I could get my phone to work?
  6. Hello I don't know if it's better to post here or in Software / Apps, I'll try here. So I use XMBC4Gamers, and my collection of games uses subfolders for genre, because I don't like navigating a flat list of 700+ games... In the past the Artwork Installer Script worked fine and managed to find artwork and install them for my games in subfolders (i.e. for instance F:\Games\ShootEmUp\Xyanide) I updated to latest XBMX4Gamers and Artwork Installer (installed the app now) and this doesn't seem to work anymore. When searching automatically with both the App and the Script, missing artwork is not found for games in my subfolder When adding artwork manually with the App, I get an explicit error when browsing to F:\Games\ShootEmUp\ telling me this not a valid game folder without beeing able to go to F:\Games\ShootEmUp\Xyanide Is there anything I can do ? I thought about moving the game folder temporarily i.e. F:\Games\Xyanide, install their artwork that way then move them back to F:\Games\ShootEmUp\Xyanide\Xyanide, will it work that way and the artwork be displyed for the game or not ?
  7. Hi! Couple of days ago I decided to try repair my xbox which has been sitting on my shelf for at least 15 years after dying suddenly. I opened up a thread on reddit here, and chatted with KaosEngineeer over there. To sum up the current situation: -The xbox is unresponsive when pressing eject and power button, no sign of life. Back in the days it was repaired under warranty (substitution of the PSU) and then repaired and modded with Aladdin and Evo X. -Opening it up I noticed that the clock capacitor had leaked, but seemingly not caused any corrosion. I removed the cap and cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol. - I tried checking the PSU and it seems to work, giving out 3.3 Volts on the standby contact (brown in my case). I tried short circuiting the standby with the PowON (white) contact by using a piece of wire metal, and I verified that the lines (orange, red and yellow) are more or less in line with the pinout (instead of being 5 Volts there are 5.27 Volts and instead of 12 Volts there are 10.73 Volts). - I checked both visually and with a multimeter that the 4 traces under the motherboard are uninterrupted. In particular, looking at this image: There is continuity between the cyan and violet pins on the PIC chip and the cyan and violet contact in the bottom of the image. The 4 resistances in the same image seem to work fine, with a value of about 10 kOhm each. -I checked that the front panel eject and power button work by verifying that, when pressed, they connect to ground the red and blue traces next to the 10kOhm signal resistances. -Now, the stangest thing: if I give power, the brown contact is at 3.3 volts (verified while the psu is attached to the motherboard by inserting the multimeter probe in the top space between the plastic plug and the brown wire), but for some reason the PIC pins that should have the same voltage when the console is plugged (before and after pressing the eject and power button) remain at 0 Volt no matter if I press the front panel buttons or not and no matter if I choose a different point for ground ( I tried using all the black cables and the RF cage). So, basically I'm stuck. Any ideas? Thank you for help
  8. Hey guys, I just found this forum googling for an instruction for my modchip. Probably 14 years ago i installed this modchip and it worked fine for years. A few years ago after i moved i wanted to use my xbox again and it dind't work at all. So today I atemped another try. I reconed a loose cable which supposedly needed to be connectet to ground, which i did. Now the Xbox does boot the original bios. I can see my copied music and game saves. Trying to start it with pressing the power button for 2 seconds sometime leeds to atempt to start in whatever bios is installed on the modchip, but it restarts in the original bios. Nevertheless the LED on the modchip does light up on start. Do you have an idea how to get it to boot up with the modchip or a procedure to test if the modchip itself is actually working? Maybe you can point me to thread i missed.
  9. I've found numerous copies of a +4 MechAssault trainer that just doesn't work. I have an NTSC copy of the game and the trainers are for NTSC. The only point of confusion is that I think the game is version 1.08? Perhaps the trainers were made for the original version.
  10. So i tried to upgrade my 1.1 xbox to 128mb. I installed the first chip successfully and xblastOS flashed to TSOP said "Success". Then i attempted to install second chip on bottom side, but xbox started fragging. I fixed up some shorts i found, but it still fragged. Then i measured according to datasheet, that power to RAM is shorted to ground. The shorted pins most likely were: 66 and 65. However it's possible, that i used the chip pinout wrongly and i measured short between VDD and VDDQ, which should be fine. Even after fixing the shorts, it still fragged. After (destructively, but fortunately without ripping any trace) removing the both installed chips, it still does very weird frag. Basically the LED lights up only for short while and then turns off. Xbox's fan runs for a while and then it reboots. This gets repeated indefinitely, but rarely you get normal FRAG and xbox stays on. I measured 2.65V going to the VDDQ pin and the RAM power rail or any of the main power rails are NOT shorted now. ANyone knows if i can fix it? All my other xboxes are either fragging (i have 1.0 i got fragging, but it might be TSOP issue as there are no signs of tracerot, no leaking caps and apparently TSOP might naturally degrade now, so i ordered modchip and will try to install it) or they are 1.6, which suck IMAGES: https://imgur.com/a/z74Mzxe Here is reference image how i installed one of the chips, that worked well (the first one). I guess it was pretty good: https://imgur.com/a/6DlSKuY. The residue is either flux or denaturated ethanol i used to clean it up. VIDEO:
  11. Hi I’m new here, just signed up. I’m hoping I can get my Xbox fixed. the problem is my Xbox doesn’t turn on all the way when I have my component OR composite cables plugged in, it turns on, briefly shows orange, then shuts off but when I unplug the video and turn it on the Xbox seems fine? (But no video of course) I’ve looked at the model date and it’s a 1.6b. I have a picture of the clock capacitor and to me it seems fine though I’m kinda new to this sorta thing. Can my Xbox be fixed? Is there some other issue with it? (It IS softmodded with UnleashX installed) Thank you
  12. Hey All, I just recently fired up my original Xbox to play some Mercenaries or Ninja Gaiden Black but it appears that the drive will not read the game disks. These disks are near perfect condition and the drive itself will read audio cds. I am at a loss on how to troubleshoot this issue. The Xbox I have is a the Special Edition Halo Green Xbox. I am at this point considering modding this system but I would rather do that to an ebay system instead. I do have the original Splinter Cell with some saved games on it, so if I could get the Xbox to launch that game I could in theory softmod it. But launching the game is a problem. Suggestions? - Thanks. -
