  1. Hello all you smart people. I am a idiot who recently purchased a pre-modded Xbox without knowing anything of this community. The 1.4 Xbox has a Aladdin chip, Cerbios, XBMC4Gamers and a 3tb HDD. Unfortunately, Fedex rough housed the thing on it's way and it showed up with the back corner of the case cracked. I plugged it into my modern TV using a funky HDMI adapter, flipped the video from 720p to 4:3 NTSC, turned the box off and plugged it into my CRT using a 3rd party cable. Setup insignia, updated Halo 2, played 2 rounds, temps were reported as less than 65c, 40c at idle. I then backed out, created a new profile in XBMC and it needed to scan the HDD for content. It hit 40% and froze, then started artifacting some white static over the image. I shut it off, gave it a min, turned it on and it froze on the Cerbios screen with the same artifact pattern. Shut her off, opened her up, all new caps, pretty clean board and new thermal paste under the heatsinks but I still replaced it anyway. The chip seems to be installed as needed, with no visible issue. Put it all back together and it showed the artifacted bios again and froze. I shut it off, pulled the power cord, held the power button for 10 sec and plugged her back in. Now all she wants to do is FRAG. 3 boot loops followed by a red/green flashing ring. Picked up a set of OEM Composite cables today and it came with a free 1.6 Xbox that is stock. Super clean and works flawlessly. Unfortunately, the stock composite cables didn't fix the FRAGing. I'm not in the mood to add to the graveyard of dead systems and would greatly appreciate some advice here. I'm average at a soldering iron on a good day, and I've torn apart many various electronics without zapping myself. What would be my best approach at making these two boxes into one, without loosing the data on the 3tb HDD? What troubleshooting steps should I start with? What's the big DON'Ts that I probably committed by opening the box already?
  2. Hey guys! I've got a couple boxes I threw some SSDs into recently and they don't load the dash, but as it says on the tin, only every OTHER time I turn it on. Startup works normally up until AFTER the "X" logo. Either the LED will stay solid green, and the screen will just be completely black forever (to be fair, only ever left it for about and hour while I was doing other stuff for giggles) OR the LED goes solid red like I've set it and loads UnleashX A-okay. Things both run like a champ in this state, haven't seen anything unusual, even the temps are great with stock paste. This happens with: - 2 brand new ADATA ASU655SS-480GT-C units, both of which were cloned from an IDE-based box with a 750GB seagate. The system they were cloned from was 1.6, softmodded with SID5, then upgraded to Rocky5. No issues on that console. These drives have NOT been tested in other functional consoles. Yet. - Three 80-wire IDE cables, two of which were running active duty in other consoles prior to testing and one of which died for some reason during the test. - Four IDE-SATA adapters - an HDE, a Startech IDE2SAT, and 2 Startech IDE2SAT2s (I haven't gone through the trouble of comparing ALL adapter and cable combos but at this point I don't think it matters) - A 1.4 and 1.6 version console - UnleashX Version 0.39.0528A Build 584, as installed by Rocky5's softmod The fact that the LED stays green on the failed boot seems like the system somehow things everything is normal and the SSD has just... stopped? Somewhere? I'm not sure. I think maybe this could be related to the BIOS or DVD drive, as both consoles are only softmodded. I plan to TSOP the 1.4 anyway, but I can't TSOP the 1.6 or (easily) remove its DVD drive, which I'm not inclined to do anyway as it works great. Wondering if anyone had some suggestions I perhaps haven't tried yet. Thanks so much for any and all assistance!
  3. 55inch visio running thru a Yamaha TSR-7850 is the setup, i just swapped out the head unit as the old yamaha was having issues where the sound would simply cut out and never come back now heres the deal, the xbox is running xbmc4gamers, the gui and all interfaces are displaying at 100% full screen , however the games so far everything ive tested looks "squished" and has "side boxes", ALL settings are set at 720@16,9@widescreen, yet im still getting the side boxes, im not so sure i had this issue with the previous head unit and if it wasnt such a massive PITA to swap them out i would i know on the full mod wii i had the same issue but i dont remember how i solved it....but i know part of the issue required me runing it directly to the tv instead of thru the head unit so what am i doing wrong to only have the side boxes when games are loaded but not when the main gui is running?..a setting im overlooking..but where is it?...or were these always there and i simply didnt notice till today?..whats got me puzzled and confused the most is that the entire gui has no black bars only the games.... im also running thru the newest version of pound link HDMI which after talking with customer service i got a guy to send me out the newest version and the quality has been stellar after the past few months of life changes going down multiple surgerys within the imidiate family and a cancer pop up that resulted in amputation my brains fried i just need some vegitative gaming state without issues
  4. So here's my situation, My 1.6 burned out about two months ago now. Trusty system, but now it's doing the on/off three times frag thing. For 10 bucks I bought a 1.0 Xbox. It however, didn't have a hard drive in it. Error 7. The man gave me back my money and let me keep the Xbox because he didn't know it was lacking a hard drive. So, I have these two boxes. My 1.6 has an 80 gig drive. I received in the mail an Aladdin XT Plus 2. What can I use this chip for to get either of these boxes running? Can I simply plug the Aladdin chip onto the 1.0 board? Modding the 1.6 is a bit ridiculous, and I am not sure if the chip will repair the system anyway. I can't find any info on using the Aladdin chip on a 1.0 board, but with that unit NOT having a hard drive I cannot tsop flash it, so if I can boot it via the Aladdin chip and the then set it up I am PERFECTLY FINE with that as a solution. Looking for as little hogwash as possible. Thanks for your thoughts.
