Which replacement dashboard are you running?

    XBMC4Xbox, XBMC4Gamers, XBMC-Emustation

With any of these dashboards, it's going to be somewhere in the XML files found in one of the skin's subfolders found in the skin subfolder.

Edit: Hmm, XBMC-Emustation uses emustation/themes/simple instead of XBMC4Xbox's skin subfolder.

And, it looks like XBMC4Gamers uses skins/Profile Skin and skins/Manage Profiles Skin.

Edit2: Reworded and fixed a typo or two.

I'm on XBMC4Gamers. Huh, I didn't think it would be in the Profile areas so I glanced right over those directories. Will head in there and see what I find, thanks for pointing it out.

  2. I've been cleaning up my very old modded Xbox and I'm down to the point of nitpicking tweaks. :D I've tried to figure out where the settings or xml are for this but haven't stumbled upon the right search terms so I'm just going to ask.

The bottom of every screen has the tooltip/help info for "A select, B back, Y synopsis, etc" and I am trying to figure out how to make the background behind that transparent. Or potentially how to make them smaller or eventually hide it altogether. Anyone point me to the right file to edit for this? Thanks friends!

  3. Holy moly, this has to be one of the slowest upgrade projects in Xbox history. Ok, got the Hexen disc running and updated the BIOS to iND-BiOS 5003 67.

The next step would be to buy a new HDD. What's the suggested type and size? @KaosEngineer mentioned 137gb might be the max for my chip/BIOS combo. I currently have a 120gb WD1200JB and I don't really need to go higher unless it turns out it *is* supported.

Thanks again everybody for the continued and drawn out help :D

Yeah look up Chimp. it's the tool you'll use for cloning.
I would probably look into just backing up your data to your pc and ftp'ing it over to the new hdd. In actuality, this will be easiest since you won't have to read up on the chimp procedure and hope it works for you.
Also look into flashing your tsop.
If you do this you won't need a modchip anymore. Also, if you ever want to sell the chameleon you have a buyer right here. :) I collect chips, and I don't have this one.

Sorry for the late reply. I was expecting the site to email me about comments and then life happened and haven't gotten back here until today. Your idea about flashing the TSOP and then copying over from the old hard drive sounds good. If I do get the chameleon chip out of there I'll let you know!

Only problem I think you may have is based on which version of modified BIOS you have flashed to the  Chameleon.  Do you know which is flashed to it?

Next, use the latest version of Chimp.  V261812 is the latest version of Chimp to try.  Don't try any older versions.

I'm not sure how to find it. In XBMC it can't detect the modchip or the BIOS and I cannot remember for the life of me how to get into the BIOS.

  6. Hi everybody, first time here in SO long. I've had a modded Xbox since 2003 which I just turned back on after I heard out about the clock capacitor problem. Mine was ok (I was able to remove it and clean up alright) but having it back on I've found the hard drive to be quite loud and maybe not running so great.

I wanted to replace the hard drive but I'm not sure if my old Chameleon modchip throws a wrench into the tutorials I've been looking at. If possible the method of hotswapping the DVD drive with the new HDD and cloning the original drive seems easiest.

Any suggestions before I start fumbling through this are very much appreciated! And I have all the stats on my current setup if needed. Thanks so much for the help!!
