  1. Do you mean swapping the EEprom on the harddrive? It's going to be tricky as the HDD will only unlock on the non-working xbox. A second xbox is incoming which has a faulty drive so almost all parts will be able to be swapped to troubleshoot the issue. Can a HDD be unlocked outside of the xbox?
  2. Since I don't have any pirated copies of XBLA games I cannot refute the claim that it wouldn't work. Was just curious because it was specifically mentioned.
  3. Hi, I'm trying to help out a long-distance friend to get their untouched xbox working again. Absolutely no reaction to power on, probably faulty power board, power cable, or maybe the clock capacitor problem. As the xbox is untouched, there's no backup of the HDD and save files are important for nostalgic reasons as well as the ability to replace the HDD in case of failure. The most efficient way is a softmod and backup of eeprom.bin and copying the save files. To get there, you have to go through quite some steps to softmod and access your xbox through FTP. (Doable, probably even easier than what I'm trying to suggest) If modding is not going to happen any time soon, I was wondering if it's possible to make a clone of the HDD by using GhostImage or some other imaging tool to backup the enitre HDD. Would rewriting this image to a new HDD (possibly bigger) make the new HDD work directly as intended? I don't think his PC can host IDE drives anyway, but I was just wondering if this would work.
  4. In it's hayday a lot of XBLA content was available on the internet. Why wouldn't those work on the xbox original? I guess they are modified to work with JTAG x360 or some other modifications that make them different from the original content, but don't understand why that would matter for the xbox original.
  5. I'm looking to upgrade my HDD (already had IDE upgrades done, now doing it myself). Is there anything I need to think of when switching to SSDs? I'm sure there's a bandwidth limit for IDE so an NVME would be wasteful. Is there a max size (not going to use an 8TB QVO, just wondering if I could) IDE bandwidth limit: 133 Mbps. As SATA is 6 Gbps, switching to an SSD should not make a difference for sequential read/writes. Might still benefit from random read/writes but I don't know how Xbox handles this. SSD would make less noise though. MBR is limited to 2 TiB and I don't think Xbox would have support for GPT for a drive over 2 TiB might not make sense as well. This brings me down to: 2TiB SATA HDD or SSD?
  6. I have no details on how to do it, but if you need the files, it seems this site holds the files: https://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4393 Hope this helps you a bit. I'm also interested in how to use this as it looks way better than what I have now
  7. Thanks! I couldn't find this online but now that it's here I'll use this one. Just tested and worked even better than the application I posted earlier
  8. I just wanted to let you know of this program I found on my search to extract some ISOs that were exact copies of discs rather than xISO. Difference is that in an exact replica, the video layer is also included. These ISOs are the ones that are referenced through Redump. Unfortunately, it is only in French, but it's simple enough to not need any text. Found it here: https://digiex.net/threads/gx-xgd-extract-v00-10-10-xbox-and-xbox-360-iso-extractor-ftp-uploader.11885/ Included it in this post in case the link goes down GX.XGD.Extract.00.10.10.zip
  9. I've opened it up and it seems to be pre-v1.6 (twelve pin power connector, manufacturing date in 2001) the clock cap seemed to be fine. No leak whatsoever. Removed it to be sure and works fine. Thanks for warning me! I thought battery leaks/corrosion were mostly base which you would clean with vinegar but capacitators leak acid or could any of these happen? I'm just used to cleaning leaks in remotes with some vinegar and worked fine for years.
  10. Thanks! I wouldn't have thought of that. Been reading up on it and seems easy enough to fix it. Do I need to check for this before powering it on again? Thanks! Thought I was missing something but I guess I'll reach those posts soon enough. Got enough to check up on for my hardware before I I'll need the software
  11. Hi there! My xbox was modded when I was still a kid and has been resting in peace since around 2010. Now that I've been doing a lot more technical stuff I want to dive back in and found this forum through reddit. I love that you have all this stuff gathered here as I wouldn't know where to begin if it weren't for you. Kind regards, Tadsz Edit: I was looking to grab some downloads but it says I'm not permitted. Are there some rules to this? Where can I find these?
