What is the large metal piece from your second post? Part of the cold plate?

Either way, killer work. I’ve looked up water cooled Xboxes before and only ever found people getting shouted down over the idea!

Would also love love to see what kind of overclocks you can get on this thing!!!

It was my first attempt at a heat sync before I discovered it would be too thick. I was planning on mounting amd coolers to it directly. This is before I discovered it would be too thick and not dissipate heat efficiently. I then discovered the aluminum water block shown on the postings.

  2. I am actually a little worried.. Will more of these be available in the future, or will this be some super rare thing that only the few of us who had the insight to purchase directly will have. It would be nice to have a larger set available out on the marketplace. Also concerned if it dies for some reason will not be able to get another.

Unfortunately, I didn't take heat sink from John7272 because he lives in the U.S., and I'm from Europe, and the shipping costs would be high. If someone else (but from Europe) has heat sink for GPU from Xbox revisions after v1.0, and don't need it anymore, I'd like to get it. Of course, I would pay shipping. Thanks in advance.

I'll be switching over to MX-4 once I exhaust this AS5! I've heard great things about MX-4. AS5 isn't bad, it just does the job, and it does it well enough to last and not make the system hotter.

Not sure how much it matters but.

LTT, and a few others did a review of all the different thermal pastes and found MX4 performs a bit better than AS5 in terms of heat transfer, machines run slightly hotter with AS5. Of course they all lose to liquid metal, but not gonna play with that stuff.

    Check it out :-).

  5. My water cooled rig is around 30-40C... 40C when not running the fans, I think it was the temp you were describing before I made that switch. I believe throwing some MX4 or IC diamond on the original blocks did help the temps a bit. MX4 seems to have worked better for me, and is a bit more easy to work with in my opinion.

I'm not sure that the TruHeXEn 2019 (Is that the one?)  release's M8plus dot bin file has the DVD check disabled.  Forlorn Pengiun's HeXEn 2018 release does.

Yeah its TruHeXEn, it must not... that is what I was using prior to my switch to x2.

Softmodded systems require leaving the main controller board of the DVD drive connected to the IDE bus and the Xbox's DVD power/control signal cable.  They are still booting the stock BIOS that checks for the DVD drive during the bootup procedure. The softmod is enabled after the normal boot procedure completes.

Hardmodded consoles, either TSOP mod/reflash or a modchip installed, when booting a BIOS with the DVD check disabled do not require the DVD drive's PCB to be connected to the console. The entire drive can be removed.

Yep, but I am also intending on leaving it connected, and throwing a switch on the ground. I have a TSOP that I did.

Though there seems to be problems with removing the dvd drive for evox m8+ on hexen 2019, so I would not recommend that one.

  8. True, but when people are spending $40 on logitech controllers, the desire to have a $60 fanless silent xbox does not seem that far fetched. I have been checking out some the case mods out there, honestly it doesn't seem that far fetched at all :-).

And when I say around $60-70 I do mean it, here are the amazon parts for the build brand new.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IHWAV3E/ 2 water blocks $18, there are cheaper ones without fins if desired down to like $4 each.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C79CH67/ 240 radiator $24

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MB9EP3G/ Pump $22

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E62TCC/ Tubing $5

    Extras:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B9CLSLW/ Flow indicator $14

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BH8N2E/ Toggle Switch For DVD Drive $18

    If Fans Are Still Desired:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYA3A4C/ Additional Fan Headers $8

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8IYCJI/ Noctua Fans $14

  9. Alright I managed to install a different bios from evox m8, using hexen 2019. I think this is the 256 x2 bios; it will just let me remove the drive without modifying the power cable at all. I still do want to keep the dvd drive attached though so I will probably wire in a switch.

Are we sure that we can run all three grounds on the same pole and that will not mess anything up? Or should I use a separate switch for each ground?

Also what is the advantage or evox m8 over x2, does x2 have less game support?

  10. So sounds like I could add the power switch then... I'd probably do that on pins 2, 10, 1, and 9...

Take that back I'd probably just put the switch on the ground...

  11. I believe I am using evox m8 because I read on a forum somewhere it has the best xbox game compatibility. Don't know if that is true, if I re-flash another bios will I have to reload all the content onto the hdd? I am also curious if I enable the skip DVD check would I still be able to optionally use a dvd player? I was considering wiring a switch on the power cable which would optionally enable it.

  12. So to get rid of the DVD player I need a tsop and the power modification?

Why is the power modification needed if the tsop is applied? Doesn't the tsop make the xbox skip the dvd check? If I left the power cable in the dvd player but no ide; would it boot?

Is there a schematic of what I need to solder on the dvd tray cable? I'll just cut it and solder what I need or I'll try using single pin connectors with wire attached so I can save the cable.

  13. I would like to remove the DVD drive on my 1.0 tsop . Occasionally the Xbox will fail to boot because of the drive, and I have no need for it. I looked around on the internet and my xbox, although I know it can be done; I am not seeing clear way of performing this mod. Assistance would be appreciated.

  14. One quick question. The Intel chipset temp, what area of the 1.0 motherboard needs to be cooled to manage that temp? I am thinking about trying a fanless build because the radiator keeps things so cool. When I take the fan away from blowing on the mobo the though chipset temp rises.

  15. Hi all I am new, I have been using this forum for figuring out my new of Xbox, so I just wanted to thank all the posts for the help.

I wanted to share something in return that I am sure has been done but I have not seen a ton of.

Its not done yet, still have to Mount it in acrylic, and paint job. Have learned a ton though so far in this project. It has a flashed bios, 2tb shdd, I've made several CPU mount covers including one made of steel when trying to figure out best heat sink.

I also tried putting in 2 antech 620 h2o's I had; but i quickly wrecked those when taking apart. So i just went with a custom waterloop. This one was cheap, like $60. The most expensive part was the pump. The blocks are mounted on the acrylic with super glue. The rad is so big it doesn't need a fan. I do have a few noctua fans coming though that I got on the cheap.

I plan on integrating 4 Logitech receivers directly in the case as I have no desire for wired controllers. The case will likely be just a custom acrylic case. The video out is a pound with a mcable attached. Nice quality.

Will try to post updates as I complete things out.

    Xbox 1.0

    Enjoy!
