  1. Desoldering braid would clean this up, then flux and resolder, you havent got anything to lose if you are just going to scrap the board anyway, plus its the only way to get better soldering skills
  2. can you hear the hard drive(s) spin up? check drive jumper settings, check that the molex plug from the xbox psu is actually giving correct power to the hard drive, check the ide connector on the main board for dry joints maybe?
  3. This is the diagram i have, there may be a better one or more info knocking about though
  4. are you trying to load the retail dashboard from boot? 05 just means the hard drive isnt locked so that would suggest the chip is disabled at that point. you can run the XBE for msdash through your replacement dashboard and that should bring up the original retail dashboard
  5. If you have tried all those things and still error 11 then probably a board fault with the dvd drive, if you can get your hands on another dvd drive somehow just to check it gets past the error screen
  6. the boot error screen is when your chip is disabled, locking the drive and booting with eject would probably boot to msdash, its not msdash as such that requires the drive to be locked but the fact the chip is disabled via booting with eject requires it to be locked
  7. When you say you've tried different cables, have you tried an 80 pin ide cable (ata100/133) or just the normal 40 pin ide cables?
  8. also is it an original xbox controller or a third party controller, this wouldn't affect the screen but some third party controllers have trouble with the apps
  9. ive had this error before when i did an update on xbmc4gamers and it failed. if you can connect the xbox to your router you should get the ip address displayed and you can ftp unleashx or whatever you want as your dash, the file locations may depend on whether your xbox is soft or hard modded though
  10. how was the original drive soft modded? ie sid / rocky5, also did you update the ms-dash before you softmodded it, if tsop'ing or hardmodding isnt an option then i would try unlocking the new drive, re-installing the stock 10gb hard drive, running ms-dash, loading a game such as halo 2 and updating ms-dash by trying to load xbox live, this will mean you need to re-softmod though, then clone the drive and lock. also as its softmodded i assume you are cloning using hotswap method?
  11. you can use a usb keyboard on the xbox (with a usb adapter of course) thats how i changed a lot of my titles coz it was taking forever with the on screen keyboard / controller!
  12. when you bridge bt to gnd to force the chip into always on, you have to remove the long wire(s) attached to l1 / bt that go points near the front
  13. have you checked the board for trace corrosion? this is what would usually cause the auto-on / power issues edit, you have disconnected the long wires going to the front of the board once youve done the bt/gnd bridge yep?
  14. just typing the same kaos - check the connections from the modchip to the board, particularly the d0 wire, if you can solder i would also suggest you re-do the modchip with a link from bt to ground so that the chip is always on, as the way they were originally installed was enable / disable depending on whether you short tapped the power button or held it for a second, this pic shows the bt to ground link
  15. lol i always clean my hard drives and circuit boards in a bucket of water!
  16. instead of running chimp from memory card i would install to the drive you are trying to clone, you can use file explorer to copy from the mem card to the apps folder, then when you run chimp there are options for particular partitions to clone or byte by byte full disk, (to select full disk you have to click the right thumbstick in i think!)
  17. the standard usb colours usually go earth, black, yellow, green, white, red. you should be able to tell which side earth is from following traces, thats assuming the adapter follows the standard line of course
  18. have you tried different video modes? pal/ ntsc/480p etc
  19. are you connecting the new ide cable 'reversed'? ie with the master connector on the board and board connector on the hard drive
  20. If it all works when you have the stock HD attached and you've tried 2 sata hard drives then i would say there's more than likely an issue with the adapter (if you are sure all your cables, dvd power cable etc are snug and you are sure the startech adapter is set back to master then im thinking hes the problem)
  21. also if it aint been opened since 2003 get it opened and get rid of the clock cap asap! they leak in 99% of xbox's under version 1.6
  22. xmbc - will allow you to play media files dvdx - will play dvds as long as your drive is working if its the stock hard drive you wont fit many xbox games on (maybe 1 depending on the game!). to get ftp going set to dhcp in network settings of unleashx, the ip will be displayed on the front dash as soon as you connect the xbox to your router, then the username and password are both 'xbox'. have a think about upgrading the hard drive though in order to get the most out of it, then you can cram it with games and emulators
  23. what country are you? i have a few spare here in the uk
  24. ive had a few 1.6's with the 3300 caps bulging by the power connector, theres 5 of them. apart from that ive never had much issue with the others (apart from the clock cap of course)
  25. heres hiren boot cd 8, its on there under password tools https://1fichier.com/?ogxm525gglooyo057o7v
