  1. Hello Mousxaros Most of my Xbox's have 7200 RPM hard drive's You won't see any difference in temps and may be a slight improvement in load times. With the Green drives it is better if you disable the power save function as the Xbox uses 3 cache drives(X,Y,Z) and if the hdd is in power save you might experience some clutching at times. 3. Can you post a pic of around the 12 pin socket ? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  4. Good to here and it sounds like who ever modded it could not work out how to flash the TSOP and fitted a chip. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  5. Hello dragon30561 Is the led on the front flashing and what color/patten? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  6. Hi Nabilrezki Where did you get the M8 bios from? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

  8. A capacitor can look fine but it may have dried out and gone open circuit and if that's the case it may as well not be there. To test you really should remove from the PCB and connect to a LCR meter as testing in circuit can and will give incorrect readings. The caps circled in red I would definitely replace, If the caps in purple are silver like the one in this board if you can replace but that's up to you I would. And 100% you need to remove the cap in the yellow if it's still there Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  9. I would say test with the new power supply 1st. This is my test power supply for version 1.2-1.4 and I am waiting for a 12 pin single row connector to make an adaptor for the 1.0-1.1 It required 2 mods the 5 volt standby to 3.3 volt and a transistor to invert the power on signal from the Xbox with both built in the case then repin the 20 pin connector to suit a Xbox. When I was testing the current drawn by the version 1.0 I had to find heavy duty leads for my multimeter as the voltage drop on the standard longer leads I normally use was causing the Xbox to fail to boot or frag sometimes due to voltage drop 4.8volt at the power connector on the motherboard. When I have done the ram upgrade I plan on testing the current draw again, That should happen in the next day or 2 as I need to be in the mood to that sort of work unless someone is paying me to do it. I will come back to this thread and post the new readings when I have them. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  10. Failing capacitors can cause all sorts of problems and sometimes the cap looks fine. The power supply would also be something I would also look at as adding the extra ram is putting more load on it let alone the overclocking As an example I tested a unmodded version 1.0 MB 5 volt supply current and with no hard drive it had a peak of 7 amps on boot and the power supply is rated at 13 amps on the 5 volt rail I think your pushing it past it's limit.. 11. Don't be afraid to ask questions and it also helps if you post pics of the damage sections as quite often a 2nd set of eyes helps. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  12. That BIOS checker program is as useful as a ashtray on the dirt bike. You could try the 3 wire trick and see if the onboard bios can be recovered. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  13. Hello Junkyarddogmax Both will give you the option of playing backups of your game disk's or play your games and allow you to upgrade to a larger hard drive . Also with both softmod and hardmod(mod chip, TSOP flashing) you can install unsigned code like Xbox4games,Coinops and the like. A hardmod requires the Xbox to be opened and depending on the matherod your using adding links(solder, conductive paint) to the main board to enable the TSOP flashing or soldering a mod chip to the main board. And in my opinion the hardmod is the best way to go, It offers easy replacement/upgrade of the HDD as the hard drive does not require locking to the main board where the softmod requires the HDD to be locked. With a unlocked hard drive if the Xbox suffers a major failure you can swap the old drive to a replacement Xbox that has the hardmod and it is like nothing happened and there is at least 1 post a month about my Xbox is dead and I don't have the HDD Key how can I save my games on the HDD, You don't is the answer. Hard modding is a permanent solution and softmod is a temporary solution as if you accidentally delete the wrong file from your softmodded Xbox HDD the quickest way to recover from that is add a modchip. Do the same with a hard mod it's load your install dvd and repair the drive. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

  17. The mod in theory makes sense but looking at the diagram it looks like it's a waste of time as approx 1/3 of the current been drawn on the Lframe by the mod chip is from the pull up resistor any way. And how many Xbox's have you heard about dying from the Lframe been pulled to ground by the mod chip. Also if it was such a big problem more people would be doing the same mod since that document was updated in 2005 you're probably the 3rd person I have heard trying to do the mod. I my opinion restore the Xbox to the way it was before you modded the Lframe. SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  18. I have the same model Hard drive in my 1.6 using a X3 chip and a chinese Sata to IDE board and the boot time is a tad under 30 seconds I seem to recall that unleash needs to check the hdd each boot looking to load the name of each game and app in to memory or some sort of list you could try a different dashboard and see if hat changes it. also try a different 80 way IDE cable Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  19. Like I said my version has been working for over 10 years without cutting the Lframe trace. You answered your own question undo the mod you did. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  20. I have a version 1.4 that cost $5 with the same damage that's now rocking 128 meg ram N64 freak HDMI internal DVD dongle then topped off with a OGX360 interface. If you not confident in soldering the best thing would be to acquire an old computer and practice soldering on that 1st or start with an old car radio as the tracks are bigger and spaced further apart. Then if you still don't think you can repair it send it to someone that can. There is a saying that "Horses for Courses" people do different jobs because they are good at it. If you get stuck send me the board only and I will see what I can do for you. N64 freak is in Germany. 21. My sleep pattern is all over the shot and the last 3 ram upgrades I have done have been around midnight and as I no longer have a full time job due to my choice I don't need to be up at a set time I have NBN FTTN here on a 50mbs plan and 95% of the time I get 48mbs and have 1 drop out in the last 2 years so I should no complain to much, 5G will give the telcos a shove but until you can get a unlimited data plan(my max download in one month was 1.95tb) at a reasonable cost the NBN resellers don't give a crap. The wii2hdmi is a pretty good mod and 1 of my box's as a internal wii2hdmi and the others have a hdmi from N64 freak the main difference is the wii2hdmi samples the left/right analog audio and injects to the hdmi where's the N64 freak version samples the digital audio with the wii2hdmi you could always add a coax connector on the rear of the box for digital audio out. 22. The D0 wire from the main board should be going to the D0 on the mod chip. If your worried about it you can cut the Lframe trace but then you can not use the MS BIOS but I can't see why you would use the stock BIOS anyway. I have a version 1.6 with a X3cp that I have had for over 10 years and had no problems with the D0 connected to the modchip. I have not seen a warped main board are you sure that something is not between the board and case but if it's been like that for years straightening it now may cause a failure . Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  23. That's because the X3- 3294 is the OS for the chip and what bank are you using? Press power and eject and it should go to the recovery screen. This may help it a X3 manual https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ojm4kgzprr5i3k4/AACN0nGrDXNU6c2j48ig9vkVa?dl=0 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  24. On a version 1.6 I would replace the 5 larger Cap's near the power connector 1st. As for the capping on you number of post have a look in the store tab $5 or $10 usd membership. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  25. I would say yes it will work . From the description it may have a small PCB on the back that will need to be removed. And the price is not bad Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
