At $105aud delivered no thanks
I would rather put that toward a SSD and never use a DVD/CD again.

thanks for the info so i should return it ,
41 is little consoren to me because summer in my country 55c and maybe 60c in the day 43c at night but since you said it can handle up to 70c thats good to know
Quotedoes it have plus and minus or i should plug it anyway i like ?
It wont matter which way the varistor is fitted it's not polarized
Quotethanks for the cooling info , i thought it was thermal paste not pads because some videos cleaning xbox and removing old paste ?
If you remove the heat sinks the stuff on the heat sink is a prefect square and if it was paste from the factory it would not be a square and more of a circle.

I remember seeing a cap kit on r/originalxbox that someone posted, it was for turning a 120v PSU into a 220v one.
Or am I hallucinating?
I have seen someone that claims on some PSU's you only need to replace the one main filter cap with a 400 volt version but I seriously doubt it's that simple.
I think console5 have power supply capacitor kits and they would have a 100-127 version and a 220-240 version of the kits

Z1 what the deference if i removed 1 or 2 ?
so you suggest i return the z1 ?
and is it the reason for the heat on the heat sink voltage transistor ?
wouldn't that make it return to 100v and blow if 220v ?
The part you removed (Z1) has nothing to do with the mains voltage, It's to prevent the main filter caps ( 330uf 200v ) from exploding if the PSU get a over voltage. The 2 main filter caps could potentially see 350 to 400 volts DC if you connect a 100-127 volts AC supply to a 220-240 volts AC.
The input voltage is set by the link (J11) you removed.
The heat sink with the yellow stickers as 2 X rectifiers (these convert AC power to DC power ) and 2 X regulators (these reduce the DC power from the rectifiers to 12 volt and 5 volt. There is also a temperature sensor to shut down the power supply if it gets to hot.
There is parts of Australia that has night time temperatures above 40c and even were I live we have summer day temps of 38c or more, so don't worry about the heat sink temp of 41c. The Xbox and most consumer electronics will have been designed to work in 0c to 70c temps
As long as the fan is clean the Xbox will keep it's self cool even with 20 year old thermal pads ( It's NOT thermal paste) between the CPU/GPU and the heatsinks.
For the best cooling have the Xbox on a hard surface ( Not carpet ) with at least a 1 inch (25mm) preferably 2 inches (50mm) on both sides .

i like to thank you for giving us this info it helped me a lot .
i did remove the jumper but i heard someplace i should remove the yellow transister right to right cap and it worked
i measured the temp of the caps they have no heat problem but the iron thing with warning label after shutting it down it reached 41c
should i be concearn or is it normal and what its called is it voltage regulator ?
Was the yellow part you removed marked Z1 or Z2? ( MDC z150 )
Z1 and Z2 are varistors that are designed to go short circuit if they get 150 Vdc or more and that will cause the main fuse F1 to blow
You should replace it as it's over voltage protection for the main filter capacitors that are rated at 200 Vdc, The 2 filter caps will normally have around 75 to 100 Vdc on each cap.
Quotei measured the temp of the caps they have no heat problem but the iron thing with warning label after shutting it down it reached 41c
That's a heat sink for the voltage reducing transistors and 41c is fine.
The Xbox heat sinks ( GPU, CPU, Power supply) will get hotter when you have the Xbox running in the disassembled condition as the plastic HDD and DVD trays form air ducts to force air over the heat sinks.

I am not sure what will happen now if unplugged and the clock cap runs out
The clock cap when new would only retain the time and date for several hours with the mains removed anyway.

Check the 4 resistor banks next to the IDE connector
You should get around 330 ohm on each resistor
Test the 2 yellow dots then the 2 orange dots and so on for all 16 resistors, If you get a reading above 350 ohm then that resistor is faulty and you can tack a 330 ohm resistor across the faulty one.
You should also consider recapping the board as well.

I have a 1.6 soft modded recently updated with rocky5 so clock bug now fixed for dates over 2019 so I can safely remove the gold cap and replace with a led (any particular led size wise) and can this be on a wire so the led is visible if I drill a suitable hole in the lower case so I know its wall powered?
And the xbox will still power on and boot straight into my softmod even if unplugged from wall etc?
You can use any led in place of the clock cap on a 1.6 board, It will only work one way around so if you fit the led and it will not power on refit the led the other way around.
You could also extended the LED leads so it's located to the front of the Xbox and shines down from the front panel.
Fitting a LED will not change the way the Xbox boots and the only thing that happens is you need to set the clock if you remove the mains power but that happens anyway even with a cap in place. If the Xbox is connected to your home network the clock is set automatically by most modern dash boards.
I am not sure what you mean by this ?

I'm doing a first install of a 2TB HDD and trying to squeeze as many games on it as possible, and hoped that if I could create multiple 256GB (or smaller) partitions it would cut down on cluster size and I'd fit a lot more on it. Is this possible or is the only option a bigger drive?
Convert the games to CCI (Cerbios Compressed Image) format and you can fit the whole US games list on a 2TB drive with room to spare.
On the 2tb drive I use I have around 900 Xbox games and emulators (Coin Opps Massive) with space left.

Normal terrestrial TV (FTA =Free To Air)
Although I used to have a pay TV via satellite but that now comes via the internet on the STB (Set Top Box).

I didn't really comment on this, but it's interesting that you have both analog and digital audio hooked up to the receiver. In what situations do you use the analog? Is the HDMI native, or converted from analog?
I don't have the analogue audio connected to the receiver just the coax digital. The receiver then converts to HDMI to send to the screen. The TV is really just a FTA tuner and a screen with the receiver switching from a Cambridge music sever for just audio and STB for streaming music videos with all audio signals being digital.

hmm, clean work, I would like to hear the difference, my only audio gear is a pair of prehistoric receivers I found on a curb with no coaxial
It defiantly makes a difference, The less you process the signal the cleaner it is

My version 1.6 has been like that for years
Coax audio and component to the AV receiver then HDMI to the TV
The friends used to comment of the sound of the games.

Ok hi from Finland.
I'm repairing and modding a Xbox og 1.6 with this samsung psu.
The 3.3v and 5v stand-by voltages come and go, i think there is something to do with heat because it worked for a while when i resoldered almost every single solderjoint on the board.
I have replaced the 2 big caps and that did fix the original issue of completely dead.
I have replaced all the bigger caps on the mobo. Mobo works just fine when the psu gives the power needed.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I have been stuck with this for over a month and i'm doing this free for my friend.
EDIT:
Just tried to measure the psu once again and had no 5v. Then i plugged mobo connector back in and plugged ac plug back on and the f*cking thing works again.
The version 1.6 Xbox power supplies rely on the PowOk signal from the main board to enter standby mode.
When you 1st apply the mains the PSU will output a the 5volt for about a second then the mother board sends the PowOk, From there the power supply will continue to run, when the main board sends the PowOn signal the power supply then enable the high current 5 volt and 12 volt supplies to allow the Xbox to boot.
Check the SMD transistor next to the Gold clock cap and the Xyclops chip, It's the transistor on the bottom in the pic
There is plenty of YouTube vids on replacing this part.
Also testing the 1.6 power supply out of the Xbox is not something I recommend as without a load the voltages will read incorrectly.
This is a 1.6 supply running with and without a load and the 12 volt supply is only 6.8 volt and the 5 volt is 4.7 then with a load the 12 volt is now 11 volt and the 5 volt is 5.09 volt

I couldn't ever really get it to work with the dash, even when it seemed to be downloading and installing properly...
I have the M$ dash working as a application in the Applications folder but I can't get my head around making the fancy images to make it look pretty with the "Xbox Artwork Installer Artwork Builder" program.

Hi all
I have a customer that want's the original M$ dash as a app and I can easily set that with a short cut but I am having issues making the artwork to display in xbmc4gamers ( I had a look at the stuff from Rocky5's GitHub on making the images needed and that went over my head). I have looked at the artwork installer but there is nothing there so I am hoping some one here has made the appropriate files I can copy to the folder for the M$ dash.

Well... $900 later, Boards and parts are ordered. I ordered everything for 45 boards (Hopefully, it all works ... if not, I will abandon the project as I won't sink anymore money into it :)). Since I ordered a lot... I will sell the first 10 at cost (as promised... and barring any unforeseen expenses... that will be $20). The rest I'll sell at $35. For the first 10, I'll offer first to those who helped in the process of making it (I think maybe 3 people), and then those who messaged in the forum. fingers crossed!!!
Sometimes I think people forget the outlay that goes in to making things.

Some of the 1.6 supplies look like that can be converted from 110v to 220v and 220 to 110 much like the 1.0-1.1 supplies I mentioned here.

Best to upload some pictures of the main board and you solder work.
Is the led flashing 50/50 red/green or possibly 75% red and 25% green like the 2nd chart.
