  1. When disc drives go bad, they don't read well. Think of older people getting cataracts. It's pretty similar except there is no lasik surgery. There is only the very poor option of pot tweaking. So basically upon boot the xbox checks the disk drive to see if there is media in there it should boot, else it boots the dashboard. Since your drive is on its way out, it has no clue if it has a disk in the drive or not and checks until the timeout period is up. There are bios' that skip this check I believe... which would speed up your boot time. Edit: You could prove or disprove this theory by ejecting the drive during this time and not closing it again until you see the dash. Did the dash come up quicker?
  2. Ok. Also try removing the default gateway from all devices during ftp. You'll lose internet access but it will give you good data. Let me know if the transfers still complete and the speed if so.
  3. So the variable in the equation is your PC. Turn off your antivirus and try again. Edit: in your last sentence I see you mention you tried linux. Does your pc ALSO have a wifi card in it? I know you say it's hard-wired but I'm curious on that point.
  4. Hold the power button down for several seconds and see if it behaves differently. The chip itself doesn't do anything other than allow a custom bios to boot. This is what circumvents all the protections and allows you to play homebrew and emulators.
  5. It is a "cheapmod" variant. It's a 256k flash. That appears to be a 1.1 console. So any 1.1 compatible bios that is 256k in size will flash on there. No need to softmod since you're already hard modded.
  6. I hear you but here is why it is this way: People figuring things out and freely giving that information out expect the recipients of that free information to figure out how to use it. People looking to turn a profit will make things nice and slick so the end user has to do as little as possible. There is always a price to pay. If you want things for free you'll have to do some work. If you have money to burn you probably won't.
  7. Those enable the tsop to be written to. So if you're going to have kids messing around with the xbox, either remove Evo X so it can't be flashed anymore from the console, or remove the jumpers. Most leave the jumpers connected.
  8. You chose it at sign up. There was a checkbox for "recurring". I have cancelled that particular 2 dollar per day membership as there were several people that didn't pay attention and due to a limitation of the forum software... that was the only way to do it. So that is now gone. It was done for convenience but people just weren't quite able to pull it off so I killed it. This site actually does not need money. Just to be clear... this site started out with no sort of paid option. The only reason they exist was by request so people could get past certain limitations that were in place to make the cost to me manageable. Thus if people want to bypass them, a small fee is required to offset the overage they will cause. So it works quite well but I could just remove those options, nobody could invoke overages and thus no need to offset.
  9. Your disagreement is not well-founded. You flashed the TSOP with an image that isn't able to boot. Then you installed a modchip which essentially replaces the tsop if you hold d0 low (to ground). Assuming it is soldered correct, the chip is good, and has an appropriate and good bios on it, it would boot. It should also show the Xenium OS whether it has a good bios or not. If it doesn't boot, you're not yet at the software level. The bios is a rom that initializes the hardware and allows it to function. So with all due respect, you can't start looking at software issues until the hardware boots. If a bad flash indeed caused this, then SS Dave was on the right track. Hopefully this makes sense to you. I'll also say that: 1. You caused the issue 2. You don't know how to fix the issue So don't tell people in what ways they should tell you how to fix the issue. It's the most absurd approach I've ever seen.
  10. We don't get to choose where the trouble lies. Telling people trying to HELP you to ignore potential hardware issues and to focus on the software is not going to help you.
  11. If you don't list some sort of price, you can't also say "no low ball offers" as people have no idea what you think is a low-ball. You're setting yourself up for failure with that.
  12. It's best to set it to NTSC and 720p. Bypass the OSSC and it won't be soft.
  13. Yeah it will make all of your consoles that output 240p look amazing. The Xbox can output 720p or 1080i. So you don't need a line doubler. You just need something to convert the component signal to hdmi if your tv doesn't have component inputs.
  14. Don't use an OSSC for Xbox. It's a line doubler. You should just get an xbox to hdmi adapter or even a cheap component scaler off of amazon.
  15. We may fall short of the magic that was X-S... but the goal is to become as much like it as possible. Your participation here is as valuable as any donation.
  16. Nichicon are good caps if they are authentic. There are certain sellers that slap a nichicon label on an inferior cap and resell it for more than it's worth.
  17. You missed the point. Your post was made under the premise that we exist to provide you with downloads. We don't. Nobody owes anybody else anything, and we certainly do not owe you or anyone else downloads. We exist to build a community and preserve the knowledge. The files exist NUMEROUS places. The knowledge is actually more scarce than the files since Xbox-Scene went under. So that's our purpose and that's why this rule isn't "f*cking dumb". The fact that this was spelled out in the OP and you STILL didn't get it means you are though.
  18. What do the caps on your board look like? Got any pix?
  19. I think an ODE would be VERY useful. ISO's of the entire library on a hdd connected as the dvd drive would free up the regular hdd for apps, media, and emulators. Softmodding would be incredibly easy. If this were running on something like a raspberry pi with gigabit nic, uploading games wouldn't take long at all. It could really expand the possibilities. If I had the know-how I would do it. I just don't at present.
  20. I bought it from him. I have acquired all of the original parts from one of these and built it back up into an alpha II tower. It is fully functional and will be preserved as such for as long as I live.
  21. Some of that gets installed when you use the xdk recovery disc. There are also uncompiled apps in some of the xdk installer discs.
  22. What chip do you have installed? Why did you use raincoat to flash your modchip? Typically that is only used for WInbond TSOPs.
