  1. Bought a Xbox at the local boot sale recently, after opening it up the caps look like they need replacing. Pretty sure I have read on here that the 1.2 usually has 3 caps not the 5 as on most so I just wanted to check if this is right or if I have got that wrong. It has the conexant chip and a thomson dvd drive if that is of any help. The guy had a couple for sale but this one has the 3 little buttons on the front left so I bought it hoping it still had the chip fitted. It does indeed have a X2.3B Lite and the hdd is a 120gb so I assume it was done back in the day, I have only just had time to open it up so I need to do some searching to see what that chip is all about. My main issue for now is ordering the right caps so if anyone could confirm the version from my explanation I would appreciate it. Can post a pic of board if needed. Thanks Cush
  2. yea I thought that was a tsop step but those strange cup shape bits had me think it was maybe a temp chip method they used then lol, I didn't go near that C7D2 incase I broke it completely as the console works fine and I was going to install the 500gb and just throw a few racing games on it. thanks for reply.
  3. Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong section but not sure if this is softmod or tsop so put it here. After having help to update my original xbox (thank you) I have since found the first unit that wife bought me in 2002. I thought it had been softmodded and slayers installed. Today I opened it up as I want to fit a 200gb sata hdd that I have spare and was surprised to see that it has had some kind of chip fitted in the past. It's a lot of years since this was last used and tbh I don't remember having a modchip. It has the stock hard drive and the manufacture date of sept 2002. It has Evox M7 and dash is +3921 if that is of any help. I just need to know if I am safe to carry on and install the 500gb hdd. If anyone can work out what has been done originally I would love to know, from my limited knowledge so far I wondered if it needed a chip fitted temporarily to flash them back then.
  4. yes the EvoX M8 v16, I was thinking of trying CerBIOS but need to do more reading up as not brave enough to try yet lol.
  5. Sorry I should of said in my previous post, I ended up using a 200gb ide drive I had whilst waiting for delivery of my adapter so I just changed the ide cable to a 80wire. I will be using a 500gb sata in this though once I know what I am doing as that is more than enough for our use.
  6. Thanks again for help, had no idea it would be so easy. Installed larger drive and now using the XBMC4Gamers dash, just need to work out why IGR does not work, maybe something to do with the chips bios but will post about that in the relevant section.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply, just waiting on a sata adapter to give this a go.
  8. Hi, Sorry should of posted here before asking for help, Hello to all. I have been playing about with a raspberry pi that was given to me at xmas and after a quick play on the retro arcade stuff I decided I need to set up my old xbox.
  9. Hi, I recently searched the attic to get my original xbox back out, while up there I found a crystal version that I don't remember getting and set it up to see if it worked. It is fully working and has a Aladdin XT wired in it, the bios is EvoX M8 v16. I have been trying to find a tutorial on fitting a larger HD, probably a 500gb and wondered if anyone could advise or point me towards a tutorial if possible. I have been reading and watching videos for the last 2 days and tbh am more confused now, I thought I would be able to clone the original onto a bigger drive using the xbox and then just rip my disks to the drive. Would this Aladdin XT support the newer Cerbios or XBMC4Gamers ?. Any help/info would be appreciated greatly.
