  1. Boy howdy I hope it's true. Bit of an odd man out, but I generally prefer 1.6 consoles since they have less caps to replace, & seem overall more "efficient" in their internals. If this is true, then I don't have to look at my 1.6 collection as "those guys" anymore!
  2. I can't believe I fell for this entire vid, hook line & sinker, not even ONCE questioning rust on plastic casing, or dumping literally everything into a water bowl + baking soda. All we can hope for is that this skit used an already dead Xbox, so a fully living Boxy Boy didn't die for clicks & views.
  3. My dude, you're a champ for the work you're putting into this. So much of life is mainly streaming now, even if it's something as simple as YouTube. Loving your app here, & super excited for your work on a YT app when you get the chance. Keep it up! You're doing great!
  4. Genuinely a beautiful disaster. Almost makes you want to buy it to give it a new home, away from these demonic hands.
  5. Basically in the same boat. New games & gaming habits in general have ALL the wrong priorities, gave me the inspiration to jump back to the gen where my gaming life started & see just exactly what we used to have. Sure, the previous gens had a fair share of stinkers, but as soon as the online craze kicked off in the middle of 7th gen, & things started going all digital? Boom! MTX, Daily & Weekly "incentives" to keep you playing, disgusting overemphasis on online play, miles wide "content" with inch deep depth. Not every game has fallen down this abyss, but over the last decade, damn near 99% of the "AAA" publishers have reduced their work to money sponges that are frequently half cooked. Even Nintendo's gone down that route for some of their titles, it's that bad...
  6. Currently looking at a tabletop's worth of spare Xbox controllers, as I have an unnatural fascination with them in particular, for all consoles. If I had no self restraint, it would be a slippery slope down to collecting all the interesting OG controllers. One I did manage to grab for cheap was one Gamester's "FPS MASTER". It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, so I had to get one. Feels surprisingly good in the hand for what it is.
  7. This new update is nothing short of incredible. Other than the obvious cool factor, I suppose this is another case of an option so vastly superior to ODE that you wouldn't need to bother. Although ODE emulation still sounds like a nice idea...
  8. Which is the main reason why a newbie like myself would rather take an older IDE drive for a test spin, rather than buy an adapter I have no experience with installing & take an unnecessary risk.
  9. Going to upgrading from base HDD at some point, but didn't want to start with SATA drives right out of the gate. Wanted to use otherwise dormant IDE drives out in the wild, & was wondering exactly HOW one would know if a IDE Hard drive supports locking for softmod Xboxes.
  10. Id ask how one simply goes out & finds Crystal Xboxes, but 2020 sounds like a different time I suppose. Before nostalgia waves started hitting people & driving up sales... Currently on 8 Xboxes, including a Halo Box I got from a thrift store for $50 around 5-6 years ago. Still proud of the foresight on that purchase, got it right after leaving High School & spent a majority of my savings right then. But I knew it was worth it, especially now.
  11. Yeah, same. Was stuck with PS2, which for sure had some of my favorites, but it wasn't anywhere near as cool as the Xbox. Then again, got a PS2 pretty late into 6th gen, & I didn't even see Xboxes when I snagged myself my first console. Did you get your Xbox pre-modded, or was it a vanilla box that you got a softmod on?
  12. Growing up as a wee gaming lad, my first home console was the ever cheap PS2 Slim with a PAID demo disc from Circuit City (Shoutout to Jampack Volume 13). Even as I amassed my collection of games, I was envious of the competition from Nintendo, since the funny cube had the cool italian guys, & I didn't. but then there was the Xbox, something that seemed so powerful & complex, I avoided it entirely out of fear & confusion (mostly confusion). However, I had multiple cool uncles who played classics like Halo, Doom 3, & Jedi Knight Academy on their individual Xboxes. Every single time I saw them play these titles, I was floored by their visuals, the gameplay on display, & the fact it was all coming out of this hulking THING that I knew was just better than my PS2 in every way, including physically if my PS2 was forced to do a trust fall with Xbox. Fast forward to the present, & for the past 6-7 months, I've been on an absolute spree on collecting Xbox Classics, controllers, accessories, & multiple Xboxes themselves after learning how varied the modding scene for the Green Box actually is. After spending over a decade completely ignoring the brick that I so deeply admired, the goal is to honor it's legacy by cleaning up any Xbox that I find a good deal for, learn what makes them tick, mod them to smithereens, & of course, play. The true first Xbox doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
